I would simply say, One of the best movies. I certainly did not expect that an anime movie about teenage love would become one of my favourite movies of all time. Man, it made a grown ass man like myself weep like a baby.
Exactly !! Had me crying everytime it seemed like they lost each other in time and even more crying seeing moments like "but wait, did they really got apart?" JUST TELL ME ALREADY I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE.
Even more so if you have watched Shinkai's other movie 5 CM/Second, which has a similar but completely different ending to this one and caused heartbreak in a lot of anime fans at the time. Well played, Shinkai-san
What had stricken me with this scene that really brought a lot of tears is how they finally met each other after 8 years (even if they had met between those years via metaphysical realm, the time it took for them to actually meet in person in their actual present selves took them 8 years), 8 years that they were longing for something they don't know what or why, 8 years of feeling something that is missing. And when they saw each other, everything suddenly made sense now who they were looking for after all those years.
Well for her it was 8 years, because that’s when the comet hit. For him it was only 5 years because that’s when they’d gone to Itomori to find her, as in around when he’d met her through their connection

I just keep romanticizing the idea how they will tell people it's love at first sight bc they can't explain that instant connection that they ditch job interview and work to run to each other when they just saw each other on the opposite train for the first time. I love this anime so much.
I like to think as they talk snipit of memory will return. Because Taki still knows he was really into a town called itimori that no longer exists, he has drawings of mitsuhas perspectives, and her house, etc but he doesn't know why. And it will take one talk for her to say she use to be from itomri

The actual translation is "your name is" not as a question, its an open finale, people like to theorize that they both already knew each others names and that they regain their memory here, while others interpret it as love at first sight and view the "your name is" as a question

As if them finally meeting each other wasn't beautiful enough, I realized it's because of their body swapping that both of them got closer to their dreams. Taki was able to tap into his passion for architecture to the point that he can perfectly draw the landscape of a town that had long been lost and distill that passion towards making other towns just as beautiful. But what really gets me is that MISTUHA LIVES IN TOKYO!!! She really did it! She made the move by herself to live in the place she wants to be in! All thanks to Taki saving her from the comet!
The fact when they do meet they are full of doubts, and when they passed each other, they slowed down and were grief stricken thinking that "No, it can't be them." Then the guy turned around and then asked if he knew her from before, breaking the ice. Then the tears start to fall and I swear there are ninjas cutting some damn onions...
the thing is this movie really couldnt have ended better. It doesnt bullshit you by making them meet again shortly after. Only Mitsuha remembers the comet but she doesnt remember anything about the switching bodies or taki's involvement. But their minds do feel the connection and the feelings that happened, and it creates an insane amount of familiarity between them, causing that incredible impulse to talk. 8 years since he saved her and over 500 lives, she accomplished her dream and independently went to tokyo, and now theyve met what they were both missing for so long. Just genius writing.

This is one of the most EFFECTIVE FILMS of all time... I can still remember the crazy feeling inside the cinema. Some people were standing up, some were screaming, some were cursing, and a lot were in tears. This is truly a masterpiece in its generation.
"There's no way we could meet. But one thing is certain. If we see each other, we'll know. That you were the one who was inside me. That I was the one who was inside you." She was right tho.

There was that instant spark and connection. I spent the whole day searching the crowd to find her again. By the end of the day, I almost walked past her a few times, so afraid to say anything. Then I asked for her name.
I literally have the Taki half of this movie’s poster as my cell phone cover. Useless to say a tiny part of me hopes I’ll end up meeting a girl with the Mitsuha half😂

Then, he turns and she turns. They are together at last. In love.

it's been so many years now but I only recently learnt that "kimi" is a form of "you" that you would only use with people you know very well or are very dear to you. Just adds another layer of emotion to this ending that sadly gets lost when translated

Theres a manga that shows some of the side charecters povs during all their swaps. Its pretty funny and if you want more content after the movie and dont just wanna read the manga or LN thats really your only option.
idek how yo explain this. the way he looks at her with such live and care even tho hes not 100% sure its her just makes this so much more wonderful bc he may not be sure, but his heart is. mitsuha as well. they looked at each other in the train and with no hesitation ran out looking for each other despite not even remembering each other. this movie is so magical and imo really shows the true meaning of love. no matter how far in space or time 2 people may be, the bond thye share together will never break if its meant to be. for any of u out there and r probably feeling like u dont have love like this yet, keep trying. bc someday, somewhere, someone very special is just waiting for u to find them ❤
There isn't a romance story, anime or live action, that does a better job of explaining "love at first sight" or "soul mates". We, as viewers, know their souls are intertwined through the threads of time in a high stakes battle to save thousands of lives. But they simply have that inexplicable feeling, that inexplicable urge to say hello when they meet in the future they made possible.
You know it's a damn good movie when you get the ending and can't help letting out some tears for these two. Good stories make you care, and this story nailed it: this ending gets me every time because the story is just great!
I guess the Overlord of Darkness/Theos did change and just lived a normal life..! And, hopefully, for the best! (Just a joke, but Kamen Rider Agito's fans will get the joke)
They don't remember the memories or even their names but their bodies reacted, muscle memory i guess.... Both Mitsuha and taki struggled a lot for years but Mitsuha's struggle was bit painful...

When i met my wife at the first time on March 2nd 2017, i couldn't stop looking at her, i was like i knew her. Almost 8 year together. That is a miracle for me. I was LOST before i met her. 6a years before spiritualist man said i would fall in love for my wife at first sight because i knew her for centuries ago... but i had died before marrying heer... , that is why i like this film

This touched my heart. This is the first movie that almost made me tear up, specially when the part where Mitsuhara and others died i thought the ending would be sad. This is by far my favorite anime movie
This ending is so perfect! I remember watching this film in theater in 2016 when it came out, but can't quite recall the story back then since I was only a middle schooler. Watched it last week and thought it's the best love story ever! The fact that they never truly met each other during the body switching, that they can never meet in their timeline, that they can only see each other for such short times on that mountain, makes the ending all so heartwarming. Even when they can't remember each other, they still have the feelings for each other, and when all doubts are broken and Taki called out to Mitsuha...it's just, WOW!
I love the ending because in a way it like another chance for takaki and akira to be together in end because the end is opposite of 5 centimeters per second

J'ai pleuré a cette scène, cette histoire est un peu similaire a la mienne enfaite je rêve de la fille de mes rêves depuis quelques années, je sais a quoi elle ressemble, je ressens que c'est mon âme soeur le truc c'est que a la différence de your name c'est que moi je l'ai toujours pas rencontrer, j'aimerais trop la rencontrer, d'habitude j'suis bien tout seul, les couple et cie c'est pas mon délire d'ailleurs j'ai toujours jamais été en couple et toujours Vierge car j'ai dit non aux autres filles mais bordel que j'aimerais rencontrer cette fille de mes rêves elle qui est la seule qui m'attire et qui a réussi a faire battre mon petit coeur sans âme, je sais que y'a que avec elle que je me mettrais en couple si je l'a rencontre pas je resterai Vierge et célibataire a vie et j'suis sûr que la fille de mes rêves aussi est pareil que si elle me rencontre pas elle restera Vierge et jamais été en couple a vie car elle ne m'aime que moi et personne d'autre, bref j'ai tellement envie de la rencontrer et ce film your name qui est un chef-d'œuvre, le meilleur anime que j'ai vu m'a fait pleurer, ressentir des choses et j'aime voir le fait que les 2 personnage principal pendant des années où ils ont plu rêvé de l'un envers l'autre ils sont restés toujours Vierge et jamais été en couple jusqu'à qu'ils se rencontrent en personne et si ils se serait jamais rencontrer l'un comme l'autre serait rester Vierge et célibataire a vie, comme moi et la fille de mes rêves et ça c'est tellement magnifique c'est ça le vrai amour💞❤

This touched my heart. This is the first movie that almost made me tear up, specially when the part where Mitsuhara and others died i thought the ending would be sad. This is by far my favorite anime movie
This ending is so perfect! I remember watching this film in theater in 2016 when it came out, but can't quite recall the story back then since I was only a middle schooler. Watched it last week and thought it's the best love story ever! The fact that they never truly met each other during the body switching, that they can never meet in their timeline, that they can only see each other for such short times on that mountain, makes the ending all so heartwarming. Even when they can't remember each other, they still have the feelings for each other, and when all doubts are broken and Taki called out to Mitsuha...it's just, WOW!
This movie combined with Silent Voice will make you remember you are human again, no matter what you're dealing with.
