hitoha would still mean "one leaf" or "lone leaf" in Japanese tho, it still has the "hito-" which is also used in the word hitori meaning alone or by yourself
this movie had me cry when she *spoilers* look at her arm because taki wrote "i love you" instead of his name and mitsuha didn't had time to write her name cause the twilight ended and when they met in th end really made my heart heart so much cause they didn't remember each other yet they remember that they have been looking for someone but they forgot their name and hey said to each other "your name is...?" fucking made me cry
You missed something on Number 3. The Japanese title of the Movie is 君の名は /Kimi no Na Wa. This title is a pun in Japanese. Written in Kanji (Chinese symbols) it means "your name?" However, the way it is pronounced it could also have another meaning: Your string. The 名は "na wa" part is a japanese word for name followed by a grammar particle は "ha" (pronounced "wa"). The word 縄/ "nawa" means rope/cord/string. The very title of the movie refers to the string of fate.
Still want a full movie for that Z-Kai ad. Anyways, despite it's flaws, Kimi no na Wa was a beautiful movie. I think it could do even better as a series, would really enjoy watching the daily body exchange shenanigans of Taki and Mitsuha. Also, closure. Definitely closure. Liked the ending, thought it fit the story but I still wanted more closure than that.
I feel exactly the same. I absolutely loved the film and will definitely be purchasing a digital copy when I can, but that ending just didn't have the closure I wanted. Heck, I'd just be happy if they said eachother's names! It almost felt like an unsatisfying breath, like those you get with anxiety. I'd love to see this as a series, but I fear it'd make it seem too gimmicky, almost like a 4th Toy Story movie. Whatever the case, I can't get over how excellent the film was.
i totally agree. i HATE that almost all the good romance anime end with the kiss or the get to gether. im more interested in what happens afterwards. one of the few anime that do that is itazura na kiss and maybe golden times. but other than that, there is hardly anything :/
Now we're pretty much left to wonder what could have been of the movie had he had more funds. I think it would've just been a longer movie, which I'd really appreciate since as some said, a series format might have even fit the story better.
Hey if you watched Garden of Words you can see the date of a letter wrote by Akizuki to Yukino ( 2014 ) and the Itomori thing happened in 2013 and I guess she was there too cause she appears in the movie, so that means Garden of Words story is after your name ^^?
I was watching "Weathering With You" and the girl that Hodaka bought the ring from was Mitsuha i noticed from the ribbon. Also, Taki is the man you see in that scene where Hodaka visits that elderly ladies house and lights the flames
My boyfriend shared the Z-Kai advertisement a while back. I felt cheated by Shinkai because that was too short for a film until he gave us Kimi No Na Wa. You got me on Garden of Words tho. Didn't realize that was the teacher until now @_@
1:32 I can say that this is true *S P O I L E R A L E R T* In the movie, Weathering With You, There is a scene where Hodaka (one of the main characters in the film) buys a ring for Hina, (sunshine girl, one of the main characters). He goes to a local market in their place in Tokyo, where he found a small shop that sells jewelries. The vendor of the store, Is non other than Mitsuha Miyamizu :3 P.S.: Taki appeared in the movie as well. And, (I'm not sure but i believe that Hitsuha is there too)
I can understand Makoto when he says the film felt incomplete and I agree. Did feel like something was missing, like a full/true happy ending. But I hope he realizes he still created a beautiful story. And side note, he still has time to finish that story.
I spent the entire movie wondering why Taki sounded so familiar then saw the ending scene. BOOM it hit me, 5 Centimeters per Second main protagonist is named Takaki. 😂 The ending scene looked too much like the beginning scenes of 5CM. Then I looked back at the entire composition and it felt a lot like 5CM. Did research 😲 made by the same guy.
I really like this title, no stupid "THINGS YOU *DONT* KNOW" clickbait, he considers that you only may not know them and writes it down in the title, I like it !:)
So there are ester eggs for the previous movie he made. This make me really hopeful of seeing Mitsuha and Taki reference in his new upcoming movie "Weathering with you".
The number 1 fact! I'm just ecstatic that time when I found something similar to Crossroads with full-length video to even connect the dots! No wonder they have the same vibes! I guess Makoto is just as touched as I was when I watched the Z-kai commercial! 😯😯
The reason for the promotional image is that Mitsuha searches Tokyo for Taki, and because Taki wore the cord, he could connect or sense Mitsuha had been there.
Crystal Eve Paws Me too~ I watched it at the cinema and I think I'm the only one crying that much but who cares.. Then, I still bought the original dvd and cried again at home 😂😂😂
Say something I know. In the interview with Shinkai, the report asked "how did your high school romance shaped your work?" And he answered, "I've never been in love in high school."
FIRST of all I want mitsuha and taki to be Together and have a really Lovely life AFTER what happend to them but would’nt it be weird to think about taki and mitsuha MAKING a baby (lets assume that they’re happily married) but They switched right ON the spot!!!!😳😳😳 OOF- ima head out ........
How about the fact that the English title 'Your Name' is a mistranslation? 'Kimi no na wa', with the rising intonation on the 'wa' is an informal way of asking 'What's your name?' The Japanese don't have a question mark.
For simplicity purposes, the hiragana character か is added to the end of the sentence, but this is usually the case for formal sentences. So Kimi no na wa ”君の名は” is still correct, but you could also say 名前は?(Namae wa?) or 名前は何ですか?(Namae wa nan desu ka?) However, I think the english translation is a bit off. They say "Your name" but without the question mark which makes it seem like its a statement 君の名前
yeah, noticed that as well. however, many japanese use a question mark, even though its written a little different than the western question mark, also there is ka. but since they used kimi instead of anata, and na instead of namae its pretty casual, yeah
i LOVED the movie. was suprised they didnt try to contact each other earlier, and that the year never came up. i mean, they got mobile phones, work and time tables. how come they never realized that there was a 3 year discrepancy?
i read the Tenki no Ko (Weathering with you) light novel. Its true that taki and mitsuha got married... I agree. I loved the movie, but if I had to compare it to Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, "Your Name" is definitely far from perfection. The sceneries are beautiful and shiny but they don't have the nice subtle yet perfect timing of showing this alongside the story. I mean, like if I try to notice when these views are shown in Your Name, they are shown for a direct reason which tells our minds consciously what our characters are directly seeing and thinking. As oppose to Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, the sceneries are subtly shown as it all builds up along with the story until, when the story reaches its conclusion and another scenery is shown, your emotions would overflow with the moment for reasons that viewers are both consciously aware of and subconsciously unaware of.
Number 12. Her name isn't Hitsuha. It's "Hitoha".
Yeah Sorry about that lol. =/

I meant about the Grandmother.

Exactly
NOBODY cares? As Japanese native speaker it really matters.
just noticed mitsuhas teacher looks exactly like mitsuha with short hair
3 years late but... you might know, Her teacher is Yukino, who is the same woman from "The Garden of words"
Yeah
this movie had me cry when she *spoilers* look at her arm because taki wrote "i love you" instead of his name and mitsuha didn't had time to write her name cause the twilight ended and when they met in th end really made my heart heart so much cause they didn't remember each other yet they remember that they have been looking for someone but they forgot their name and hey said to each other "your name is...?" fucking made me cry
Stefhon James Daluz yessssss
Stefhon James Daluz "I love you" in japanese is pronounced "taiski", which is very similar to "taki"
Juanelgod Well, it's actually "daisuki" (pronounced "daiski")
Thanks for the correction
Me too

Wow thats nice..sorry i am 3yrs late
Ooooooh!
That's so cool!
Now it makes so much more sense, why they never actually said "Kimi no na ha", but instead said "Kimi no namae ha"
The work is always a masterpiece when the author himself thinks that the story is incomplete

Yep she's a sale clerk
Taki is also in that movie as a cameo
i feel makoto. i also feel incomplete after watching your name.
Everybody does....
Now we're pretty much left to wonder what could have been of the movie had he had more funds. I think it would've just been a longer movie, which I'd really appreciate since as some said, a series format might have even fit the story better.

The incomplete film turns out to be the perfect anime movie
The voice actress of the teacher is hanazawa kana

FUCK, the cafe in Ikebukuro closed?
yeah cause shiziuo destroyed it
My boyfriend shared the Z-Kai advertisement a while back. I felt cheated by Shinkai because that was too short for a film until he gave us Kimi No Na Wa.
You got me on Garden of Words tho. Didn't realize that was the teacher until now @_@
My heart went out the window when fufufuwawari began playing in the beginning.
2:40 now imagine if Mitsuha looks like her seiyuu in real life. My boi Taki is so lucky
1:32 I can say that this is true
