Protectant is like wax or at max like sealant. You need to reuse it once a month like you reapply wax on paint to preserve it.
Suppose you don't reapply protectant on plastic, in that case first protectant will get removed after a month but plastic will still be in good shape since the technique I showed actually removes oxidation. It's not just a makeup. Plastic should still appear in matt finish like it appeared after using trim cleaner. After that if you leave plastics as it's, oxidation will start appearing after few months. I never tested how long bare plastic oxidize.
I apply protectant after every wash to avoid oxidation on plastics. So I am never worried about how long it will last.
I would again re-iterate to think protectant as wax. If you apply ceramic coating on plastic, it will remain there min 6 months. Protectants remain between 1 week to 1 month depends which product you use.
