      She is a minority of Yi ethnicity. Hence she can have more kids than the majority Han. China doesn't discriminate against ethnic minorities. Even the famed Admiral Zheng He who commandeered the largest armada known to mankind was a Chinese of Muslim minority.

    • @tc2334
      @tc2334 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wongcw08 Part of the reason ethnic minorities get extra privileges in China now is because they were historically discriminated. Zheng He was descended from the first provincial leader of Yunnan, who was a Uzbek Muslim appointed by the Mongol-led Yuan Dynasty.
      If the Chinese (read: the Han) never discriminated against other ethnicities in China, the countries of Vietnam and Thailand would not exist today. It's precisely because of ethnic discrimanation that Dai and Yue people were forced south of China. Even during the Qing Dynasty, Han people were heavily discriminated against by the Manchus (even though Han are the majority!). So, yes, actually China *does* discriminate against ethnic groups. It just depends on which part of Chinese history you're talking about.

      @@tranfiorinimichelle5029 The transition from an agrarian economy to an industrial and then a post industrial economy took Britain from the early 1800's through to the late 1900's. If you are familiar with the writings of Charles Dickens, you will get a picture of the beginnings of that era. If you going back even 40-50 years further, in London itself, life was no different for my ancestors than it was for that woman. In the rural areas, it was like her life, well into the 1880's. Children living in hovels, uneducated and either working in the mills, or farming estates at hard labour. In Wales and ore producing areas, children would go out scrabbling for ore over the hills, to take back in baskets to the mills. Iron and coal. It was a dangerous and deadly way to make a few pence.
      This changed in the 1890's through the 20's. Child employment came under scrutiny by Government, and the automation of factories required fewer workers. Together that let to shorter work weeks, and a push for education through out the country.The WW1 & 2 pushed industrialization even further and faster.
      The 60's through 90's ushered in the post industrial age, with computers and Space utilization. We went from needing grade 1-8 for factory workers, to needing 9 to12 for office and technical workers. It has, since 1990, required College or University, to land a good paying job today.
      Along the way, over 150 to 200 years, wages and life style has steadily improved.
      China began it's Great Leap Forward, around 1970, with the west wanting the use of it's cheap labour. this has continued over the years, but with improvements in the products requiring better educated work force. Slow by modern standards, in terms of historical records, it has happened overnight and continues to happen. Opportunities, from the expansion of the rail/transportation network, allowing people to get their produce/product quickly to market. Travel as the video pointed out, has accelerated the movement of people, where moving to a large city, does not mean a complete cutting off from family for a year or more. It will get even better.
      Cars/Automobiles are not the be all and end all of prosperity. Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles are not wanted in China because of the pollution problem. Electric Cars and other vehicles are going to become the norm. Coal fired plants are being shut down and replaced with clean energy sources. Things are changing, along with the quality of air to breath. When I was born, in the 1940's, pollution in Britain was a real problem. It has improved immensely. Killer Smogs are no longer a problem to be accepted. This change is happening now in China.
      The people in China are to be congratulated, and envied by the West, for what they have done in such a short time. Not criticized for what we think they lack, which we take as important. They are moving along a different path.
      My apologies for the long rant. It's just the accumulation of decades of experience and self education for Family History/Genealogy that I felt I could help you and other's to understand the phenomenal change in China. It could have been much longer, but this is the internet. The information is freely available. Cheers and stay safe.

    I used to live in the Liangshan area 10 years ago, so I became acquainted with the Yi people and their culture - I can even (kind of) sing a song in their language! It was really so fascinating to visit their villages - I remember one time going to a village that took a few hours to get to, driving on mountainous roads. When we reached our destination, we still had to walk to get to the little village and had to cross a log bridge over a little river. We sat in a home with a dirt floor that was packed full of people who were cheerfully singing and sharing food. This was just one of many fond memories I have of my time there. It really felt like discovering uncharted territory - every single day SOMETHING would happen - whether it be good, bad, interesting, or whatever; I have so much to say really! Lastly, the images you see of the mountains and rivers in this video are really that spectacular.

      Lauren, government is made up of the same people. The Chinese tried many different ways of governing after the toppling of the last Ching dynasty, fighting within parties with different ideology as well as foreign invaders for half a century, until they settled for communism to revive the nation in 1949. Communism might not be right for other, but to a totally destroyed nation with nothing left except scorched earth, communisn fit very well there. Let the expert said, communism changed China, and China in turn changed communism. Today's China is not the same animal of the last century. It has a lot to offer to human kind today and more in the future.

She wouldn't of let her babies die of sickness if the system had allowed her to get treatment?!! Does china not provide free healthcare and then bill later? I have to ask, is this normal in china?
