- Vladimir Putin criticised the West in a major speech this morning before the one-year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine on Friday.
The Russian president is hoping to soothe doubts among his country’s political and military elites about what he calls the “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Speaking in front of MPs and members of the upper house of parliament, Putin launched immediately into an attack on western countries and the “regime in Kyiv”.

Putin has destroyed Russia now. Before the war Russia was an up and coming country, with good links to the west, tourism and peace. I even went there on a cruise in 2018. Loved it. All the republics in Russia should do what Putin is doing in Ukraine... organise a referendum (like in Ukraine) and declare independence (like the two regions in Ukraine). The Republic of Tatarstan could easily be an independent state, Chechnya as well. These two places have their own language and religion and therefore, could be independent and Russians should respect that coz they helped Russians in Ukraine organise a referendum too claiming that those people there have the right to decide whether they want to be a part of Ukraine or not so the people of The Republic of Tatarstan have the same right.
