1:57 - full LED tail lights... apart from the bulb indicator and reverse lights! Manual headlight levelling switch on the dash doesn't bode well for the brightness of the headlights at night.
poor quality audio system + no HUD + no 360 camera + downgraded powertrain + seats ventilation removed = price up $5000, hyundai has given up the compact segment
MG4 is better value now as a suburban runabout. $31k d/a, RWD, 10 year warranty, more interior space, handles better, instant torque, zero petrol costs or servo visits. The massive price jumps on these hybrids for somewhat better economy is rarely worth it. Obviously not for everyone’s living arrangements, but if you own your house and this is your second smaller family commuter car as it often is, you’d be mad not to get that instead. If you can novated lease it, it becomes equal or cheaper than a $25k base petrol i30 used to be.
Nah the audio system is pretty good. HUD is not that essential and use your eyes instead of looking at a screen for 360 cams. But I agree with the powertrain. Seat on the base i30Nline were leather. Seat ventilation are for the premium version as stated in the video.
I was driving my Niro EV tonight, and big boy roo jumped out in front of me. I dropped the anchors and it pulled up as quick as that i30 did. I was pretty impressed. I came within centimetres of the rooms tail and we both continued on our journeys unharmed.d
We have to hope that the Smartstream (Kappa) 1.5T is a receptive to retuning as the Gamma 1.6T was, hopefully they've fitted it with a reasonable sized turbocharger and are just running them on low boost to make use of the hybrid system - but we shall see once we get our hands on one. At least we can still retune the gearboxes to actually make them shift more aggressively in sport mode, the factory tuning on the 7DCT has always been pretty terrible - in every single version of it As an aside, the decision to move the whole car over to the "N-line only" option was obviously done based on sales figures. If more people were buying base models instead of N-lines, then Hyundai Australia would have kept on a lower trim mode, something with a torsion beam and a 1.0T 3-cylinder, like what's offered in Europe - but if you actually keep an eye out for i30s driving around in the wild, it wouldn't be crazy to suggest that 50% of the ones you actually see are N-line models.
Given the low KW per litre compared with the 1.6lt. 1.5lt 78kw per/l 1.6lt 94kw per/l I would think the turbo is even smaller. Even though the torque is quite comparable, It would gain a bit from the 48v hybrid. Bit of a poor excuse for a N-Line product.
One trend I am absolutely hating is that a lot of new models/generations of vehicles from all brands have really poor sound insulation. If you're really enjoying some music on the highway between states, I think you could pretty easily exceed 85dB (into hearing loss territory) for extended periods of time. Almost 75dB is honestly pathetic. Manufacturers if you're reading this, put some effort into your sound deadening. I don't want to wear noise cancelling headphones while I'm driving - I'm in a car, not an Airbus A380.
i find cars are getting quieter. at least comparing 20+ different brands and models of cars from the late 80's through to today. i cant comment on cars older than that.
So... Not only are we supposed to buy an expensive mid-sized hatchback. But we are expected to do long trips without a spare tyre, fantastic advance in motoring and it weighs 1.5 tons!
What a giant backwards step by Hyundai. The previous models the SR & then N-Line were quite a reasonable warm hatch. There is no way this could even be thought of as "WARM" Given the power differences in the engines. This new 1.5lt 78kw per/l The previous 1.6lt 94kw per/l. While a similar amount of torque would be from the mild hybrid. But if the 48v battery goes flat from to much sporty driving, then it's going to be a slug. Massive outdated interior that doesn't look any different to when I collected my 2017 PD i30 SR, 7 years ago. And then being almost $10k more!! Massive backwards step. For the same amount of $$, Go get a i20N & drive a manual.

This all applies to VW's DCTs as well.
Really need some more time driving home just how obnoxious and annoying the Hyandai (and Kia) speed warning beeps are that default back on. Blah, Blah, its required in Europe.... This is Australia though and too many people are just accepting this distracting and faulty system. It is so much more dangerous to be turning these things off while driving (which you have to do all the time because they are unreliable).
Car companies pander to ANCAP because they are in fear of not being able to advertise a 5 star safety rating. These systems all make the cars more dangerous.
I have the same in Active. Love the manual gearbox but not the rev hang when you change at higher revs. Goes well enough if you keep it in the torque band. Mainly drive for economy though. Also didn't opt for the optional safety pack as I prefer to concentrate on the driving myself. Requirement then, as now, was for a full size spare wheel. Can't really justify changing cars at this stage. Need to find quieter tyres as the original Kumho are pretty noisy on coarse bitumen which includes sections of motorways. Don't know if tyres would really make that much of a difference though.
Not a fan of this “upgrade”, seems more like a downgrade to me, to keep this under the “N Line” badge is quite confusing because the new 1.5T engine with the hybrid system is completely gutless when compared to the outgoing 1.6T, the 150kW motor was zippy and perfect for overtaking when it mattered, and it is worlds apart when compared to the Sonata N Line as that car is on par with a full fat N model. I know the N cars are high performance vehicles but I thought the N Line variants would at least have performance in the warm category, this car would struggle to overtake a 2 ton van. The interior is basically the same and has been the same for the past few years, the only thing I personally like is exterior, car still looks very similar, I like the new rims and the dual exhaust is a nice sporty touch.

Also while we're at it, can you guys maybe look at reworking your build quality test where Paul randomly gently grabs parts of the dash? Can you measure flex? Can you try other areas? It's so random and inconsistent between vehicles. My sister owned an i30 many many years back and I remember the door bins were the flimsiest plastic i had ever felt -- like, they bent inwards like a cheap flexible plastic bin from the reject shop. I feel like you guys don't give enough attention to build quality. The noisy/squeaky window at 6:55 is a good example of that -- clearly Hyundai haven't bothered with a felt lining on their weather shielding on the window sills and what you end up with is a rubbish sounding window.

4:04 i got the same infotainment on my 2019 Tucson but here's the deal: i plug in my phone and w. Android Auto it makes no relevant difference. Plus, it's a car! Why should it have anything more than music and maps? People's unrealistic expectations have pushed tech to absurd levels which they then have to pay for in their monthly installments
I still don't understand how I can get 5-5.6 average in my 1.5tsi Kamiq but a mild hybrid can't even achieve that? Not that I recommend the Kamiq 😅 I know Hyundai/kia diesels seem to use more than competitors too at least officially

It's not a phone so it gets updated every 1 or 2 years. Sure they could do better, but you basically need android auto / carplay on that screen and nothing else matters.
you a get an Audi A1, 2024 model, for 41k. Then a corolla cross base model at 41k as well. Not sure why someone would be spending 41k on a "Hyundai". This is going the Stinger way. It's like spending 2000$ on an OPPO or Xaomi phone. When you can get the best Apple or Samsung phone at that price. But you can't flaunt it. Only the i30 GRN is of some sense.
Only a Sesame Street Muppet gets an A1. Or any VAG product. Any modern Hyundai will SMASH any Audi in reliability and running cost terms. I paid $38 for my Fiesta ST… and I bet it destroys an A1 in every possible relevant metric.
Test drove one of these 2 months ago, well the n line and similar to you, I was not impressed with the DCT at all. Unresponsive, slow to engage of the line and when completing a 3 point turn and just not enjoyable. Ended up with a kia cerento gt with the 1.6 which felt like a much better power train
Hyundai stays hyundai and can not be compared with vw , cupra etc. . . . These "new" hyudai's are a cheap copy paste from german cars in a lot sections, such as equipment, technology, etc. . Do you remember in early 90 - 2000, how boring and completely indifferent with nothing something remarkable as a fast car or quality car. Ι am not going to pay more than 20.000 with all extras for this trash. By the way, nice review. P.S. The rear lights are not full led.
