Oh! The scoop from babybridge to babybridge is like a mini inside shoulder escape on one side to outside shoulder escape (babybridge) on the other

Yes! 😊 The scoop is the hardest one to explain.

Wow I'm blown away! I love everything Wim Deputter! Rewired the way in which I think about jiu-jitsu! Definitely getting your DVD! Much love all the way from India. Hope to make it Belgium someday and also maybe have you down in India in the future? :)

Most welcome 😊 Glad you like it!
If you think that would not be a problem when rolling and moving, I would love to 😊
This was an older video though. My new one's should be better cause I'm using the Rode Video Mic

Also how do you start incorporating this when most guard retention techniques I use are counter intuitive to that

Hey Jonathan! Sorry for the late reply. I missed your question.
Just give at a try and so how it goes for you.
Do you have specific questions? Those are easier to answer.
What type of game do you play now?

Wim, I have one question about this: how applicable do you think this is for MMA and Self defense? My amateur opionion is that we have not seen this "improvement" of technique before because there was a stronger connection between MMA/Self-defense and BJJ. I see these techniques as very efficient in sport BJJ/NoGi, but I am doubtful about babybridge in MMA or any self-defense because of that head posture (no vision of potential punches coming). What is your opinion? My question is not only about the baby bridge, but it's application in side mount escapes etc in the MMA world. I would really like to hear your opinion.
Maybe to even make a video about this (addressing the mirroring principle and baby bridge for MMA/self defense).
If you have already addressed it somewhere, could you please point me to the link?
Thank you for sharing your ideas with us!

      Thank you, that's a good question 😊
I do believe the escapes work by themselves, even in mma and selfdefense. I never tested it in mma competition, simply cause I never had my guard passed in mma 😊
I did it extensively on training.
The idea of thise video however was to point out all the different postures you transition through on your way from back to standup.
I used the escapes merely as an example.
I believe every single sweep, submission, pass, escape, etc... can be explained with these transitions and postures in relation to these transitions and postures from your opponent's perspective.
You will literally always cycle through these postures every single move you make. Most people are not conscious of them and not doing them "as perfect as possible", some people are not conscious about them but do them "more correctly" because of natural talent, feeling or previous sportsexperience (wrestlers for example).
I started to perfectionize these postures and transitions the moment I found out about them and I felt incredible progress ever since, both offensively and defensively. Everything just makes sense now.
If I can benefit from it, everyone can.
Now, my search to improve in jiu jitsu is mostly focused on tweaks in these postures and transitions to make them better, smoother, more stable, etc... small tweaks lead to incredible improvement in your whole game, cause they are literally the building blocks of every technique or sequence. It's like a cheat code 😊
As for more mma related ideas regarding this topics, allow me to suggest following videos:

I’ve seen Wim’s half guard stuff recently in the Jim Miller vs Vinc Pichel stuff. Jim is notorious for getting submissions yet it was my first time seeing that style of half guard in an MMA fight. Vinc has good instruction with Brian Peterson.
