I am in love with your concept of building a game based on good defense. I am a 40 year old white belt, but I have been following your videos for a fair bit and trying them out. It has made it a lot easier to try new stuff while rolling because it reduces the chance of getting caught and has helped me build a concept of "safe zones" around which to play my attacks. If anything goes wrong, I pull back into the closest safe zone for an escape. Thanks!! Love your system!
I caught your class in Heidelberg this year and enjoyed it so much I've been pretty much only watching your videos since. I bought your Turtle DVD and really love it. Thank you for videos like this and I hope you keep putting them out.
@@DefensiveBJJ I'm experimenting the turtle and running man with lower belts (and correcting myself and asking for feedback) and it's very efficient. With highier belts as you said it's also effective but they are trying to arrange space, but it works too, cause I'm the only one doing it on the mat and they don't have a n anser for it. I will start introducing the panda. please continue cause what you explained I see highier belts doing it on the fights but they do not even know they are doing it. I was very lucky to see your seminars and videos online here.
Could you post a solo drill for moving through the different turtle positions? For some reason I find moving from half turtle to full turtle very slow and also to sitting turtle. Many thanks for all the great videos.
Nice, those are some really nifty additional tips. And actually quite concise for you, awesome! :P Looking forward to the DVD, which I think is out now. :D
I definitely like the idea referring to the different turtle systems as half turtle, quarter turtle, sitting turtle etc.. it makes the whole system into a continuous movement as it’s meant to be
hi pritt, big fan. in turtle you say be on your toes. i'm always worried that they''ll kneel across the back of your ankles (achilles) so hard and quick that they'll hurt your toes/feet. do you just have to be super aware???
Thank you so much, the system is ridiculously effective! The problem I got lately is that when I hide my neck with the Hawking, aggressive white and blue belts who lack choke accuracy start squeezing the teeth, the nose or even the eyes...
Grip fighting would help and also moving around between the postures. The idea has always been to be a moving target because that is by the definition the hardest target to catch.
I bought the grilled chicken and It helped me a lot. I also have a partner to drill the techniques. I am a White belt with a background in Wrestling and MMA. I am a top guy player but when I was on my back the blue belts finish me. Now they have a hard time passing. I want to learn this system. My question is where to start? To take the Running man DVD or the turtle DVD first? Thank you very much, you are a great teacher.
Thank you Priit! I enjoy your view on defense and it's starting to work better for me. Why do you put heels to the mat in panda rather than the bottom of your feet?
Question: Any plans to post videos of you or someone else using your system during live rolls? I'd really like to see how all the positions come together and how to best transition between them. I've watched your match with Martin Aedma a few times but I know you have evolved the positions since then. Another great video that I have found is Chris vs Adam Turner where midway through the video, Chris shows how effective Running Man can be. One thing I've learned that I have to be careful with is that the Turtle, Running Man Panda, etc. work so good that I get complacent and stay in one position too long.
Love it. Frustrating higher belts all day long with this. Also very good to make certain points on concepts to white belts. Thanks for all you share. I really hope to catch you in a camp some day (maybe Iceland 2020?).
I’ve been finding success with these defensive postures. It frustrates the hell out of my Jiu-jitsu partners. Given how much Priit incorporates other martial arts into his lessons, how would these postures (running man, hawking, panda, etc.) work when punching is included? These postures are Kryptonite for standard BJJ attacks, but if the top player decides to start raining fists, the postures don’t make much sense anymore, right?
Hi Priit Nice video. That helped a lot. I think I need to be more active in all positions, but having fun (and suffering) with defensive jits. I do have one problem though: for Panda, pretty much everyone just pulls me onto my back right away, so I assume I am not leaning forward enough? When is the DVD coming out, I need it :)
Yes leaning forward would help and also knowing what to do when they pull helps. You can fall in to hawking, running man and also to turtle. + When they pull they usually create space behind you and that is all what you need for the escape. + If they do not add pressure then just move around and try to escape maybe
@@DefensiveBJJ Ah, that is very helpful. So if they really commit to pulling you it isn't possible to remain in Panda but you can transition to a different position and try to improve. I've been doing that naturally but felt my Panda was failing if I couldn't keep it. Thanks!
Hi Priit, just wondering if you could give me some clarification in regards to the running man position? Should the top elbow be tucked underneath your leg which extends out or inbetween your leg and rib cage settled into your hip? Saw another video of yours where yyou completely hide the elbow underneath so im a bit u sure how is best. Also just to let you know your videos and methology has completely revitalised and restructionered my game so wanted to gives thanks man.

Thank you for the support!

Soon I hope ...I am not sure about the sweeps tho :) ...I am not that guy
Please continue with youor work, cause it helped me alot understanding jiu jitsu, cause not everyone has a cinetific approach to it.
Thanky you ...I will!

I like it too. It will sound less ridiculous to teach, connect the positions better and also kinda show how it's an extension of Telles' game.
1:14 running man
4:30 hawking
5:25 hawking defending collar choke
Thanks Coach, very helpful details.

When half turtling on my left side, do I always Hawking my chin to my left side, or towards the mat I guess?
Ps: thumbs up to that hollow chest concept
Love your teaching style. Subscribed. ;-)

Appreciate the research, Priit. Well done.
The stretched leg is also better if you have a big gut. But I'm sure you know that.. 😎
Haha
