There are actually 4-5 tails that were placed deliberately. There are also quite a few foreign coins, and one Indian head penny we found from 1899. I know where most of them are, but sometimes I feel that I should have a cheat sheet.

I thought about doing this too, but knew it would take forever,, lol and cutting them would be an issue for the edges, but congrats, looks awsome!!!

This is in a high traffic area of our office. We haven't any problems with it. We have had a couple of pennies come out, but they were on an uneven threshold. Because the pennies are so thin, you must make sure that the surface is very level and clean.

We do get a lot of traffic. It held up well, until we started getting salt on it from the snow/ice melt that was applied outside the front door and tracked in. Between the salt and the water, we definitely were getting patina and chemical reactions. We cleaned and sanded/buffed it. We then applied 2 coats of two part epoxy. It looks shiny and awesome-let's see how it holds up this time.

    Things I've learned-
All heads or tails make cool bragging rights, but no one else notices and it takes twice as long-I wouldn't bother next time.
Foreign coins are different sizes-plan accordingly.
    Don't bother grouting.
Snap your lines often, and place the coins tight!
Don't bother cleaning the coins before installation-clean and buff/sand after install.

If you lay out the pennies on a flat surface and then cover one side with contact paper you can then install them like tiles in the adhesive and then peel off the contact paper afterwards.

Concrete. I'd go hardi backer. Yes,the pennies are incredibly thin-use a 1/16th trowel and apply very thinly. Looking back, I would skip the grout and just let the epoxy fill it in.

that would be great thanks. It looks much better than the tiled version and I think it will be cost effective in our house. How durable is the floor though? Like, would you be concerned about refrigerator movement and stove movement etc on the floor? Or is this type of surface better suited for things like closets etc?

We used Liquid nails Marble and Granite with a 1/16 trowel

I am about to begin to do mine. I purchased the liquid nail, colored grout and I am going to cover it with clear polyurethane, about 3 coats I think. If this is a public area, it seems you get a lot of traffic, I am curious how well it has held up? Also, as far as cutting the pennies for a good clean edge, I saw a medical tech good off and cut a nickle in half with his trauma sheers, so I am looking into getting a pair.

I'll try to get a new video of the floor soon, show what it looks like with the epoxy on it.

What was the adhesive - was it Liquid Nails Construction/Project trowelable adhesive? Definitely interested in seeing the finished project! We've been wanting to do a penny tile floor in our coffeeshop restroom.

Hello I am curio use if you will list all of the tools needed for this project. I've heard you need a specific type of epoxy to cover to keep the pennies from turning green. Now that it's been 3 years how is the floor holding up?

It's hard to tell from the video, what is your underlayment? I am having my asbestos riddled vinyl flooring pulled and am debating between 1/2" hardibacker or 3/8" particle board. Also did you run into trouble at all with the grout joints being so shallow? With tile we have at least 3/8" depth to the joints, I am worried about having no more than 1/8 depth for the grout to grab.

I'm looking forward to the follow up. I'm assuming you had to cut some pennies to make them fit. If so, what did you use? Thanks!
