I had a 454 SS kit, it was molded in black, very nice. The steering system worked and if you reversed the front spindles, you were able to "lower" the truck. Great video and great review. Keep up the great work.
Yes the glue kits of these, back in the 90s, were amazing! The emphasis on accurate details to the actual cars/trucks in the mid/late 90s got me back into model building.... because I had the real cars and know what they should look like! Anyone with a parts stash from those kits, looks like many of those parts could be used on this one and the dually, for kit bashing and super detailing.
I'll be getting three of the C3500 Dually kits. One to build as a normal dually, one to build as a super fat tired hot rod, and the third to kit bash with either the Coke monster truck, or the U.S.A.1 monster truck into a replica of my 1:1 '94 C1500 two door ext cab. Can't wait for the Dually kit to become available!!!!! Thinking VERY STRONGLY about scratch building the chassis and suspensions for all three.
About time somebody released the Sport model. I purchased a 1992 Sport 5.7 5 speed, 3.42 posi in 1992. Drove it for 20 years. Slammed it, added a cowl hood and MPFI 96 Vortec crate motor in 1998. Loved that truck but never able to recreate decals for a model build. I'm gonna buy 10 of these kits!!! lol
My grandpa on my mom’s side had a 97 short bed single cab and I went all over Texas in that truck with him. Even went out of Texas for the first time with him in that truck. AND my grandpa on my dad’s side still had his 97 single cab long bed that he uses on the farm sometimes. Like you said, many of us grew up in the cabs of these trucks with our dads and grandpas. Awesome video man, thanks for doing this
I'd love the 454 SS kit again. I had one but sold it. I live in the UK, and have only ever seen one of those in real life. That was in the early 90's. A guy a few blocks away from me had it. I was obsessed.
Hello, I have three of the AMT 454 Kits #6032, 1 built one back in the early 90's I actually tubed the rear and painted the body with a two tone paint scheme. I now need to build one of the other kits as the original truck black with the decals 454 SS. Something I just noticed having these kits since the 90's in my closet, one of them on the box has Skill level 2 and added trademark information and the kit plastic is white, the other two kits came in black.
Back when I was planning to buy my first vehicle while I was in the Army in 1992, I was going thru a major “truck phase”. The subscribed to Sport Truck Magazine and drooled over the awesome custom trucks. As much as I wanted a truck to be my first purchase, I couldn’t even really afford a regular cab, short bed, 2WD Work Truck. That wouldn’t have been a truck I would’ve had longterm anyway. Now I am going to buy this model and build it as what I could “almost” afford.
This looks awesome, Chris, I bought a 91 new, loved that truck! Then somebody stole, it! I will be getting this kit, painting it medium blue, like mine! Kind of wish this had aluminum spoke wheels , Another great video!
At the 2:10 mark you mentioned the stereo. Back in the day, JVC made a 3-piece unit to replace the factory Delco stereo with😁 It had the square control head, cassette unit for the center under the A/C ducts, and the amplifier module under the dash mounting and plugging in just like the Delco👍 Wish they still did.
Sweet build up! I hope they do a full detail kit in the future. I'd love to see the long bed come back out with a new tool WT grille with the single headlights.
Love that body style . Best real truck I ever owned . Mine was a GMC but they were built on the same assembly line. Was teal and silver, same two tone style. I will probably buy a few of these kits when they come avaliable.
Im in the automotive industry as a detailer for 20 years and Im serious your paint scheme reminded me of one of the trade ins we had come in. Your awesome!
I’ve got a stack of these in my garage all in various conditions and long beds and step sides was going to build one out of the parts but now that this kits being rereleased I will probably buy a couple of these to fix the long beds and step sides
I have most of the remains of the old AMT C2500 full kit version of this, long bed and I also remember having the snap fit version as well as the dually. I can tell some differences with the molding since this is all new. Glad they kept the cab and bed separate parts so they can make the various versions down the road. Interesting to see their style of a kit vs AMT/Ertl had.
I remember when this kit first came out in the early 1990s - is this what they called a Snap Fast Plus model back then? I remember the full detail SS454 model, as well as the standard Fleetside model like this that was a three in one stock, mild custom and full custom, which they also did with the short bed 1992 F150 (I bought that particular one). You've been on a Chevy truck building spree lately, and this color scheme is right on the money!
Great job! Beautiful paint choices. It's a cool looking model. I just wish it wasn't a curbside kit. I really enjoy doing the engine and suspension parts. I think this model truck deserves it. Maybe they will do one. 🤞
Very nicely done on your OBS CK 1500 pickup Chris! I really dig the two tone color choice you picked out and that interior looks very realistic and spot on!
Nice build👍🏽👍🏽Good job with the dash decals round 2. Dash decals and side mirrors make a huge difference on models. I hate it when kits don’t have them.
I'm truly happy with the results of the model kit. And can't wait tot finally get a couple to build and a few more for the stash. Great job on the build hpi 😊
Decals look great. Nice seeing the blocky 91 and swoopy 92 Sport options. Kinda bummed they didn't include my favorite part. The red outline grill bowtie or red rub strips.
My dad bought that year tuck from his friend the Spain tire was in the bed as soon as my dad lifted that. Tire thear was a birds nest under it it was funny
I feel ya! The rumor is the 454 SS kit's molds are lost, and they had to engineer new molds, which is why this counts as a new tooling... Anyways, don't lose hope; with modern scanning and 3-D printing, everything is possible nowadays; a prime example being their International Transtar 4070 kit they reissued which is super sweet!!!
Very nice video, thanks for that! A couple of painting tips for more accurate truck models: the gas tank has a black plastic cover on the bottom half; this is what the louvered part on the chassis represents. It's easier to see on the old glue kits with more chassis details. The cowl area between the back of the hood and the front of the windshield (where the wipers are located) is black plastic and should be painted semigloss black. The steelie wheels are Argent(silver metallic) from the factory, with chrome center caps on Silverado and black plastic ones on Cheyenne and Scottsdale, and stainless steel trim rings.
Very nice build of a nice looking kit. Great color choices. I like the options provided in the kit, and a great set of decals. Hope they do a version with a powertrain soon. This on is a ‘92. We need a kit of a new truck. Thanks for sharing.
I have the 90's issue 454 SS kit; and when I heard about this new release/tooling being a curbside kit, I kinda looked down on it... But now, looking at the better grille and wheel rendering and updated decal sheet, I think I'll pick one up to make my 454 SS even better! P.S. Great choice on the color combo Chris! That's pretty much the quintessential OBS right there; I can't remember how many identical OBS' I've seen in my lifetime! Great build!!!!
I have found that a Molotow black paint pen provides a much better look than a Sharpie does for moldings, etc. I find the Sharpie looking almost like it has a purple tint to it when it dries.
The tailgate application depended on the trim level. Silverados have the aluminum with black letters. I believe the Scottsdale (mid-level trim) had the black with gold letters.
What’s the difference between the panel line accent color & the black acrylic paint? And why do you use them when you do? Sorry for the noob question, I just bought my first kit and started watching all your videos 😂
I use the panel liner on small areas, it's ready mixed, easy to use, faster to apply. I use the black paint mixed up for larger areas, complete washes and weathering on a large scale as it's more gentle and doesn't have a chance to mess up the underneath paint like the enamel solvent panel liner can.
Appears to be a very nice kit, but once again, a short bed. GM built far more long bed Chevies & GMC's than short beds. It would be great to get a long bed kit finally.
Along with the ss454 version they had a step side and a long bed version of the 1500. Chris you did a test of the Future polish replacement how did it turn out
You would not believe what I would do to get my 96 red Silverado and my 85 square body back both had the 305 not a lot of power I was the butt of all the jokes till I proved them wrong no one made fun of me or my stock 305s anymore lol
Quite a few are. I've built some of them on the channel. Most hobby modelers don't have the time or interest in all the extra work but some really enjoy it.
Part of your video popularity, I'm sure, are your stories. Made up or reminiscing they help tie all the parts together - like a good throw rug can. Anyway, after watching this just once more, I'm off to watch that great western movie - Silverado. Thanks for all you do - oh, I'm wishing that all the eggs in your basket tomorrow will be hard boiled...
Nice build when I was a kid I used to build these trucks I had a 88 and 3 .of 454 SS trucks red white and black... Does the kit come with a engine that you can build or does no engine in the kit ?
I also have a question, since I can't really tell from the video. Are the body lines and details better on this new tooling? The problem with the 90's issue is that the door and trim lines are so shallow that you pretty much lost them after a coat or two of paint... I hope they fixed it!
Has anyone dropped an engine in this kit yet? I have 350, 396, and 454 engines from other kits I could bash. Just wondering which, if any, would fit this bay the best.
Guess I'm the only "real" truck guy. That is not a '92. The grill is a '94 grill. The steering wheel is a '96-02. I've had plenty of chevys throughout the years. It's nice but it is not a '92.
The gold gm ran was the ugliest I ever seen I had a 00 Silverado that shampain gold I couldn't wait to repaint that crap so I did what my friend did to his 99 primer grey and clear coated it lol

How did you hold the tie rod on the steering? I don't see any retainers to hold it onto the pins on the spindles.
Saw update on that Amt OBS Chevy Truck model kit on couple scale model websites on my email first thing came to mind is doing a 454 clone truck .
I'd love the 454 SS kit again. I had one but sold it. I live in the UK, and have only ever seen one of those in real life. That was in the early 90's. A guy a few blocks away from me had it. I was obsessed.

Happy Easter fellow model builders!

Nice kit thanks for sharing
hot rod magazine called it the GMT-400. these were great trucks. my uncle has had one for about 30 years. can't wait to get one of these for myself.
This looks awesome, Chris, I bought a 91 new, loved that truck! Then somebody stole, it! I will be getting this kit, painting it medium blue, like mine! Kind of wish this had aluminum spoke wheels , Another great video!
Awesome paint combo,Well done

Wish they still did.
Cool ride 😎
Beautiful job as always.
I need one! My dad still daily drives a 1990 OBS that he bought new off the show floor that year.
The dash turned out really nice, nice build👍
Awesome 2 tone nicely built
Sweet build up! I hope they do a full detail kit in the future. I'd love to see the long bed come back out with a new tool WT grille with the single headlights.
I wish I still had the SS454 kit. But until I can get another, this will do nicely. Great build.
I used to have a 1990 Stepside with a 350. That was a fun pickup.
Would have been nice to get a heartbeat decal on that sheet. Thanks for the build. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Can hope they bring back the 454 SS , this kit would be a good one to build one.
Looks good as always. Great build Chris.
Great review and build thanks.looks like a fun kit has enough of the right details to make up for lack of engine.peace
Hoping for a crew cab, a WT Work Truck, a Sierra Gt and 2 door Tahoe!!
Looks great Chris! Nice pickup. Round2 did it up nice. Thanks for the review.😎
Cool mate👍
That a nice looking truck - I like the colors you chose. Thanks for building it.
Had a 94 extended cab sport side, black over silver with grey Captain seats,
Love that body style . Best real truck I ever owned . Mine was a GMC but they were built on the same assembly line. Was teal and silver, same two tone style. I will probably buy a few of these kits when they come avaliable.
Another excellence build and presentation, your color combination is perfect 🥰!! Round2 is is really delivering on these new and revised tools !!
Chris i just bought a 94 same pick up an the radio still works
Im in the automotive industry as a detailer for 20 years and Im serious your paint scheme reminded me of one of the trade ins we had come in. Your awesome!
Thanks!
I’ve got a stack of these in my garage all in various conditions and long beds and step sides was going to build one out of the parts but now that this kits being rereleased I will probably buy a couple of these to fix the long beds and step sides
My everyday truck was a 1990 extended cab Chevy Silverado. I put over 400 thousand miles on it Put over 100 miles on it 5 days a week driving to work
Like too see this kit as a tow truck or Rollback truck👍 😎
Great review of a great kit. Turned out very nice.
I will be getting this bad boy! I will put the 70 chevelle 454 engine into it! Make my own SS ! Love your build!
I have most of the remains of the old AMT C2500 full kit version of this, long bed and I also remember having the snap fit version as well as the dually. It looks great Chris love the two-tone paint job I'll have to keep my eye out for this kit 👍👍
Nice build
Very nicely done on your OBS CK 1500 pickup Chris! I really dig the two tone color choice you picked out and that interior looks very realistic and spot on!
AMT is coming out with an extended cab dually. I’m thinking kitbash to recreate a truck I used to have. Extended cab but short bed.
I bought a 1990 brand new for like 10k, nice truck easy to work on,
Wish they would put a bench set option in the kit
Very nice
I still own on rust free no snow or rain
My dad bought that year tuck from his friend the Spain tire was in the bed as soon as my dad lifted that. Tire thear was a birds nest under it it was funny
My dad had one like this one he wasn't happy that he couldn't get it in 4 wheel drive it was a nice blue though
Great job. I really wish Round 2 would have brought the 454ss kit, or the stepside back instead of this curbside kit.
Makes me miss my k1500 scsb. Red and black. Did my first engine swap and then shortly after some 16 year old struck me and totaled it out.
Very nice video, thanks for that!

Nice kit, I had a 1996, white with blue interior was mine
I use Detroit Diesel V8'S for Big Block Chevys with a few Modifications Such as the Transmission
The usa1 monster truck kit has all firewall details for this kit they could use that for this and do a full detail chassie win win
Black and gold tailgate name plate was common where I live in TN
Very nice build of a nice looking kit. Great color choices. I like the options provided in the kit, and a great set of decals. Hope they do a version with a powertrain soon.
This on is a ‘92. We need a kit of a new truck.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice job man I think I'm gonna go with more of a LSX swapped build with this truck with some nice chrome 5 spoke wheels

Do you think they will bring back the SS350 I have on and the SS454 it would be nice to see a repop
Appears to be a very nice kit, but once again, a short bed. GM built far more long bed Chevies & GMC's than short beds. It would be great to get a long bed kit finally.
Cool truck & build there Chris. Diggin the Ramada Inn ashtray! Is there an adventurous backstory to it?
Pretty exciting, I saw it at a garage sale for $1 and bought it. ;)
Thanks!
I have the 454 SS I built in the 90s. I don't know how to feel about these curbside kits, bashing and outsourcing is kinda spendy
Along with the ss454 version they had a step side and a long bed version of the 1500.
Chris you did a test of the Future polish replacement how did it turn out
What is the wheelbase on the model? i want to put it on an rc chassis thanks in advance 😊
You would not believe what I would do to get my 96 red Silverado and my 85 square body back both had the 305 not a lot of power I was the butt of all the jokes till I proved them wrong no one made fun of me or my stock 305s anymore lol
I have a 1992 gmc sierra regular cab short bed that is that same 2 tone color!
Another great video left a like. Do you attend any shows ?
Can any one suggest a video on how to lower/slam truck cars . TYIA.. beautiful build love the content on this channel.
I have the Van halen chevy model kit
I'm hoping the extended cab from the dually will match up with the short bed. Want to try and make my 97' GM.
Great job, again!! Quick question, why aren't models made with functioning doors?
Quite a few are. I've built some of them on the channel.
Most hobby modelers don't have the time or interest in all the extra work but some really enjoy it.
Can you give us a rundown of all the paints you used on this kit please?
Watching the video during the painting sessions is of great help since I show them all on screen.
Thanks
Thanks, I must’ve overlooked that, sorry bud..
And might I add you do fantastic work
I tried to buy a '91 off my uncle when I was 16 but he sold it before I could get the rest of the money together
Where can I find a body painting stand to go on my turn table or are these made out of cut up sprus and glued together.
Part of your video popularity, I'm sure, are your stories. Made up or reminiscing they help tie all the parts together - like a good throw rug can. Anyway, after watching this just once more, I'm off to watch that great western movie - Silverado. If not, you can use a Tamiya scriber to deepen any panel lines on your kits. It's not hard to do, just g o r e a l s l o w.
Would've been good to have done it as a long bed 4X4
i have an amt 454 kit what would you charge to build it for me
Does anyone know if this'll fit on the scx24 or the fcx24 rc chassis?
I think all kits should come with an engine at least molded in
Grill is wrong for a 92 the grill and head lights are a 95-98
88 and 89 were the only years for the 4 individual headlights. 90 and up were the composites like the kit has.
Do u know where I can find a 2nd gen dodge kit
#OBS
Has anyone dropped an engine in this kit yet? I have 350, 396, and 454 engines from other kits I could bash. Just wondering which, if any, would fit this bay the best.

No engine ⋯
The gold gm ran was the ugliest I ever seen I had a 00 Silverado that shampain gold I couldn't wait to repaint that crap so I did what my friend did to his 99 primer grey and clear coated it lol
But it was white
It looks alot like all those 91 ss454 and step sides...im happy to have a box full of parts for them
Would like to see a 1998/99 Chevrolet 2 door LT Tahoe 4X4 kit.
