    Watching old NASCAR videos is like watching a part of my life over again. Indianapolis 500 hundred races also. It brings it all back together like it was yesterday. What was I talking about o yeah it was great when were young. Me and NASCAR have spent a lot off time together. Thanks to all the racers that gave there life's for the safety of others.

    I just love seeing Pearson and Petty behind the wheel of The Torino Taledega racing for Holman Moody 2 power houses on the same team. That's a dream team. Cale & Leroy Yarborough is very good.

    Gotta dig the 1970 Torino vert pace car with the shaker scoop, most likely a 429CJ/SCJ under the hood!!!

    • @Johnnycdrums
      @Johnnycdrums ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not the SCJ, because you need to run high speed, (about 120) for a good period of time before bringing it in.
      351 Cleveland with 3.3 or 3.73 : 1 rear is all you need.
      Sadly once the malaise era got going the pace cars were so slow it became a safety hazard for all but the professionals, and amateur celebrity drivers couldn't hack it anymore.

    I bought a car in DAWSONVILLE, built by Bill's dad GEORGE.
    It was a Mercury Cyclone, he'd built for someone else, then got back, and had Danny drive to Dawsonville high school.
    A small team (lots of independents) wouldn't be able to buy or get a Talladega or Mercury Spoiler II from FORD direct
    so GEORGE built to LOOK like the aero version for them. It had a mix of big block parts, and was a bear to drive from D'ville to Gainesville in fall 1991. Brakes were HD from trucks built at Atlanta plant.

    • @williamboardman9476
      @williamboardman9476 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Point was, HE built nose to FORD specs, vs. Mercury. It got stolen with fresh yellow letter tires on ULTRALITES,
      in deep South Carolina. LOOKED Pearson livery, Wimbelton White with Gold roof, lid.

      Somehow, the money became the major factor.
      There is very little to no racing back and forth.
      They lost what made the sport popular in the 70s to the early 2000s.
      Too technica,l too expensive , gone are the series that developed drivers crew cheifs ,
      Eventually, be racing electric cars or form .

    There were three more races left, but this race put Petty far enough behind that he could not recover. They never actually mentioned how much the points lead was, or how much of a lead Pearson had leaving the event, so I tried to calculate these. In 1969, races were either 50, 100, or 150 points. Based on my back of the envelope calculations, I think Pearson was 259 points ahead going into Rockingham with 450 points left to go. After this race, there are 300 points left and Pearson leads by 349.

    The Spoilers were faster than the Taledagas by 3-7mph bc they were a few inches longer on the nose than the Ford car. Even the W nose Spoilers were competitive in 1969. The W nose version was winning races in 71 bc technically it wasnt affected by NASCARs rule change requiring the Birds Degas, Spoiler IIs. And Daytonas had to follow. The W nose car was allowed to run the 427sohc or Boss429 engines which gave the car a huge advantage as evidenced by AJ Foyts run in 71 Daytona for the Wood Bros.

    Agree stock cars looked like resemmbled cars on the show room floor.
    Downsizing to erodynamics too Carbone fiber .
    Little to no passing racing back and forth , Roadoval or what they are called just in a term stink!
    Dirt on Bristol, but won't race on a real dirt track.
    NG Car, not as safe as they thought, and the drivers have told them that.
    5 race teams, the others are associated with them.
    All that had hurt grass roots racing because they are making thar more expensive, which depletes the fields and prices out spectators .
    Look at the grandstands lots of empty seats at major races.
    And get rid of the race at Coloseim, wanna race at bull race designed for that .

    where are the GM guys, I'll answer that no where that where. GM could never compete with Ford or Chrysler back in the sixties and early seventies. in the mid seventies GM started getting in bed with NASCAR and NHRA. that's how they became the overrated icon they are today.

    • @user-hc9yt5gd6r
      @user-hc9yt5gd6r 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Burks GM was threatened by the government to breakup its divsions around 1965 and pulled out of racing and even tamed down there performance car ads. There were no factory backed cars during these years and its all about money. Overall GM has the most wins in racing .Whenever gm was in the game they were competitive.

      @@goodnightcharly5135 ok then....
      There are two reasons.
      1) Chrysler had spent a fortune on 4 different research and development projects. All 4 were ok'ed and then after they won alot and broke speed barriers they did not want and worried they were to fast for the times or dominant like 8 of 11 races with 123 finishes 6 times they made them lower the cubic inches. Bye, bye, bye, bye 4 times.
      2) fiat , Chrysler decided they would talk to NASCAR the past few years and France wanted so much for a " startup"
      And not having the time or $$ to as they put it..... Blow that kind of money it does not make business sense. They are out of debt, MAKING money, the Chrysler part of fiat Chrysler is selling good they decided to not only stay with nhra but to be the head cars/manufacture of it.

      MOPAR HAS ALWAYS DONE DRAG RACING VERY WELL AND FOR DECADES BEEN DARN NEAR DOMINANT.

You come after 3 months and start again???? Dude move on
      Or continue to think they were not the fastest and would have dominated for years if allowed just like mopars did then
      When you add supersprrdways and small and dirt tracks. They destroyed your oval boys either way.
      They were so fast thru were not first to 200 but at Chelsea proving grounds for of the racers hit 230 and 2 hit 246 at the grounds. They had to back those engines Down so much and when that came out about the mag guys thatsnuck in and got the story on the speeds and the amazing amount of polls Dodge and Plymouth won with the winged cars even though the Daytona did not start until September.
