Aquaman isn't lame, but it's a meme to say that he is since most people think his only powers are underwater breathing and talking to fish. He's basically the punching bag of the DC fandom, like Yamcha is to the Dragon Ball fandom.

Yeah, Yamcha is still really weak compared to aliens like Vegeta and Piccolo, but he's still much stronger than any human alive in our reality, and by the end of DBZ, he's at least passed the level that Nappa and Vegeta were at when they arrived on Earth, and they were both capable of destroying planets.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't mention the time he punched Martian Manhunter, who was disguised as Superman, across a room.
Martian Manhunter has been shown to have a similar level of resiliency as Superman himself.
Also yes, I highly suggest the Aquaman movie. Maybe The Snyder Cut off the Justice League, but you can skip that one if you're not up for it.

Piranha aren't keen to listening to Aquaman's orders because they're kinda pricks, most sea life will just do what he tells them out of respect.

I'm not sure of the specific instance, I'm not an Aquaman expert, but I'm going to assume it wasn't just a casual swim through the ocean and all of a sudden he got attacked by wild piranhas.
Real piranhas actually avoid humans and even in a feeding frenzy will still avoid humans. At worst if they get scared enough they might nip you. So.... yeah realistically the piranhas would need to be like, starving to death to actually seriously go after a human, let alone the ruler of the ocean.
@@haku8135 yep as far as im aware the whole "piranhas are deadly" thing got started when amazon tourguides would trap a school of piranhas, starve them and then throw a chunk of meat into the middle of them so the tourists could see them skeletonizing it
then of course tourists blab to people back home which believe them with little to no proof
so to this day even though we have piranhas in captivity, can demonstrate that they are harmless, and every biologist on earth confirms it, there is STILL dumb people who will insist they are killing machines

Namor is one of the OG 3 from Marvel created in the 1930s. Along side the original Human Torch (long story, the most famous Human Torch is from the Fantastic Four, aka Johnny Storm. The original Human Torch was John Hammond, an Android who bursted into flames when coming into contact with oxygen) As well as CAPTAIN FREAKING AMERICA. He has been around for a long time.

They kinda lowbaled both in the episode. Namor was able to punch Thonos in the face so hard that Thaos did bleed. And Aquaman was able to severely injure a Darseid avatar by stabbing him with his trident.

General rule of thumb, in a match up between a Marvel character and a DC character, the DC character will be stronger. It's my understanding that in the early days of Marvel, they intentionally made most of their characters flawed/vulnerable. They didn't want characters with god-level powers like Superman as it made it too hard to come up with a reason for why a character like that would ever have any challenge. Meanwhile, DC had Superman as their flagship character and inevitably had to scale up everyone else's powers to where the readers didn't just ask why Superman wasn't just called in to solve every issue.

id say thats pretty on the money at least for the old days, since you rarely saw DC characters' struggles in day to day life while you saw for example, Spiderman's struggles with relationships, getting steady work and paying rent besides all his superheroing

It seems crazy that this was a very “Fishy” episode and you might need to hear that Keenu Reeves is going to play as Namor for the MCU timeline in movies or episodes out there.

The idea of Aquaman being lame likely comes from the old Super Friends cartoon, where his ability to talk to fish was pretty much the only ability they let him use. Other heroes in the show would role their eyes at him when he declared his powers useless in certain situations. Of course, the series also created heroes based on Donnie and Marie Osmond, so the showrunners really didn't know what the f**k they were doing
As for Purple Man, he's a mind control villain tied to Jessica Jones, a Marvel character who got a show on Netflix. She's a hero, but his power was so strong that she spent a long while forced to do his bidding. It's extra f**ked up to think about

Not only do I agree with the outcome, but they themselves tried to make it so that it didnt look like a massive stomp. Nemesis bloodryche (a death battle ytber) went through every episode to see the biggest stomp stat wise, and this episode made the top 15. Let that sink in (get it, cause sinking... yea i'll see myself out)
To be fair, he made that Episode by cherry-picking one example per episode that fit his narrative. For example, they had two strength examples per character (lifting and energy) and Nemesis only mentioned the one Aquaman stomped in, ignoring the one Namor won out. And like his putting Fate vs Strange near the top, in which he used a black tab that put Fate as multiversal for one side of his argument, then purposefully ignored when they directly scaled Strange to universal deities in the info bar so that he could pretend they only had him at Supernova level. I like Nemesis' videos quite a bit, but he's one of many TH-camrs that tends to conveniently forget or invent things when they serve the purpose of a video he's making.

He was kind of portrayed as a joke in Super Friends. Like just this guy that can talk to fish while next to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. But it kind of ignores the fact, he's a king and is super human in his abilities. Besides the whole fish thing. He's also is kind of ain a weird spot honestly where, yeah he's cool but he has other responsibilities to think about so he's not front in center on a lot things in the DCU. He's also kind of upstaged by other heroes. Like, yeah he's super strong but so is Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman. Yeah he's fast but Superman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, and Wonder Woman are much faster. And his 1 thing, underwater stuff, doesn't really come up a lot outside his own comics.

If I recall correctly, they did it for smoother animations and more potential for story telling for the animations. I might be wrong on that second part though.

Yeah, I definitely didn't know who was going to win when I first watched it, and even this time I completely forgot who won. I was definitely one of the people who were calling Aquaman lame until I saw this.
The reason people think Aquaman was lame is largely due to the old 70s (1973-1985) cartoon series known as the Superfriends. It was popular in the cultural zeitgeist, but also served to bastardize the justice league with overly campy 70s cartoon shenanigans and jokes.

@@BJGvideos YES! Different runs and iterations of course but yes. That's not including individual shows that used the same voice and animation and spin-offs. And that was the original air runtime for the show, so it doesn't include reruns. Thankfully by it was banished to Boomerang in like 2002 (the year I first saw it. I was so confused because I was a little kid and knew Batman and Superman from their respective Animated series and didn't get why the Super Friends made them so lame😂) where it lasted in syndication until it was finally kicked off in 2009.

At a certain point people who read marvel and dc comics or watch it should realize that the word copyright does not EXIST when it comes to Marvel and DC Characters.

You say that you should always vote for DC over Marvel and I understand why it would feel that way, however at this point in Death Battle DC only has a lead of 2 victories over Marvel. The reason for this is that DC’s “power heroes” are utterly absurd and insane when compared to Marvel’s (comparatively) more grounded power heroes, outclassing them hundreds of thousands of times over. However Marvel’s street level heroes tend to be much closer to their power heroes, while DC’s street level heroes are significantly weaker than their power heroes. You’ll see it in the Death Battles themselves: DC stomps all the high powered fights while Marvel wins the street level fights (Spider-Man vs Batman, Hawkeye vs Green Arrow, etc.).
Aquaman as a joke is an unfortunate meme that won’t die. Back in the 60s they made the Superfriends tv show, which was a corny, cheesy but fun show featuring the Justice League. They severely downplayed Aquaman’s abilities in that show to the point that his only abilities were his sea animal telepathy… and riding a jet ski. No I am not making this up. His reputation was further hurt when they had to shoehorn in some sort of water-based disaster in every episode because they couldn’t think of anything else to do with him (despite being super strong, durable, fast, an aqua kinetic who could control any source of water so sewer pipes and whatnot should be fair game, etc.). The joke persists to this day and poisons his image to people who don’t bother actually reading his books or watching his shows/movies.
Comic book trivia time! While DC and Marvel have a lot of characters that are clearly intended to be alternate company counterparts, 95% of the time DC made the original (Dr. Fate to Dr. Strange, Deathstroke to Deadpool, so on so forth). This is one of those rare times where the Marvel character came first, with Namor being published two years before Aquaman. His title as the “first mutant” wouldn’t come until decades later since the X-Men and mutants weren’t made until the 60s. Before that he was just a half-human half-Atlantean who had winged feet for… some reason. It was never clear until they retconned him as a mutant. In any case, Namor didn’t only beat out Aquaman, he was one of the very first superheroes Marvel ever created, period. The very first Marvel hero was the original Human Torch (not the member of the Fantastic Four, a completely different guy… who was actually a robot, so technically not even human) and Namor debuted in the same comic book issue as him! So yeah, even though outside of actual comic books themselves very few people know about Namor, he’s literally one of their very first and most important pillars.
They mention the Purple Man when showcasing Namor’s resistance to mind control. Purple Man is a Marvel villain whose body produces a virus which instantly infects everyone around him and compels them to do whatever he tells them. They’re completely aware of what is happening but they have no choice but to comply. He’s used as an allegory for r*pe fairly often (and it’s not hard to see why). Resistance to him is more or less unheard of, which makes Namor incredibly impressive here. However you have to start questioning if he’s resistant to the mind control effects, or if his immune system kills the virus before it can alter his brain. That’s an incredibly important distinction to make when determining if Namor could resist Aquaman’s telepathy, which is a direct and immediate psychic attack.
As for the fight itself, I definitely agree with the outcome, but it’s not nearly as close as they keep trying to make it sound. Just because they can do almost all the same things as one another doesn’t make it even, especially when you stack the raw stats up against one another, and Arthur has the clear one sided advantage in every category. Even his animal telepathy grants his ocean armies super abilities while Namor only commands ocean creatures at their normal capacity. It’s a total one sided stomp the hosts tried to pretend wasn’t so one sided.
Next battle…. Oh Ho Ho Ho boy. It’s a controversial one to say the least. Not because of the outcome, but because of how they chose to interpret the stats of one of the Mega Men. You’ll see. It’s quite stupid, but I love it anyway. It’s also the longest DB episode ever so, you know, get some popcorn. You’ll be there a while. XD

Also not surprising that you haven't seen the little mermaid, but I'll give you a pass on it. It took me YEARS to even get through the first movie. Then I heard there was at least a second one and said "I'm good."
