What's up brother - these 4 chords are invaluable to probably 60% of all pop music of the last 60+ years, so great idea showing the folks at home ways to put them to work. But I would add just one more from the 90s to the list because it is truly one of my favorite songs, and one of my favorites to play/sing. '74-'75 by The Connells. One of the greatest bands to come out of NC - where I happen to have grown up as well.
I appreciate you sharing these songs on a Softball Sunday. I also thank you for sharing these songs with us. And I seriously appreciate the fact that you also have a Thalia capo. Not many have been spotted in the wild where I live, and I may have the largest collection of them in western NC. And I use them all the time. Have a great day!
Just got back into playing and have the same guitar.. Admittedly I was in the 90% give up rate.. But I Love the way you teach.. Relaxed, chill, not cocky multiple options and variations.. Thank you sir
Hey Ryan, Happy New Year! Another lovely lesson. I haven't been around much as life keeps happening and my guitars are being neglected. I hope to start playing again soon. Hope you and the family are well. Much love, Tim
I was showing my wife last night a song (Shane Smith and the Saints - Fire in the Ocean) where you strum between changes and was telling her how I struggled with it at the beginning of my guitar-playing years. lol. Great tutorial!
Yield is underrated. It was a goody .. Though I'd have to go with Versus as my favorite Pearl Jam record (raw, explosive yet catchy .. stripped down). Ten is too polished for me to have it in my Pearl Jam top three favorites. I placed my cursor and came across you playing Wish List in the chorus and I knew that is what you were playing without catching you identifying it previously in the video. So you must be playing it spot on! Good stuff.
Some of these chord progressions are the same as some Pink Floyd. Comfortably Numb, Mother, Two Suns in the Sunset come to mind. Thanks for another great posting!
So funny - last nite I was lying in bed and had the idea to tune the B string to A and it makes lonely really cool! Look for it in a soon to be announced album and a how to play vid to follow - thanks for knowing!!
Yield is your favorite album? That's pretty cool. I particularly love Pearl Jam's experimental "weird" phase that was in full swing at that point. Plus Do The Evolution and Brain of J are two of my favorite Pearl Jam songs. ...also,while only tangentially related at best,I never miss an opportunity to mention MY favorite album, which is Animals by Pink Floyd. GOD I love that album!
Hey man great video, awesome to get a Pearl Jam song in there. They are touring Australia in Nov and tickets go on sale tomorrow 11a.m. yyyyyyeeeewwwwhhhh 😎
Song request here. If you can find a way to include a Tragically Hip song with an explanation on why the chords make it sound so emotional would be great. “It’s a good life if you don’t weaken” in G#m
Bro, you taught me to play guitar in 2023!!! So first and foremost… Thanks dude!! Now how bout a lesson on impeccable mouth trumpeting. Burr Burr, burr Burr…
Would you find it helpful to have my personal tabs/notes for the songs I teach?? www.patreon.com/RyanLendt
I thought I would. And as it turns out, I do! Thanks, Ryan!
I like those Taylor koa guitars
My wife was just telling me today she missed 90’s tunes. I’ll have to learn these for her. Thanks man.
we all miss the 90's.....
(but gotta max out the NOW too)
Music now sucks....😂...bring back the 90s!!!!
Thanks for being passionate about PJ music and simplifying the learning curve of playing their gems!
Stay great.
Your backdrop for this video is so beautiful! Nothing is better than acoustic guitar and wonderful nature.
You are an exceptionally gifted teacher, my NC homie. Thanks for this and all of your lessons!
It was -16 F here for the past few days. You being outside gives me hope!
This guy makes learning guitar easy and fun. Great video.

Cheers to you Ian - best of luck!

This was an awesome find! With regard to the “Petty G”Do you have a trick for the quick CGF change in “Change of Heart”?
Dude i just found this randomlly and you are such a great teacher!!!
I was showing my wife last night a song (Shane Smith and the Saints - Fire in the Ocean) where you strum between changes and was telling her how I struggled with it at the beginning of my guitar-playing years. lol. Great tutorial!
Synchronicity!
Excellent Instruction as usual‼️
Playing the “first, fourth, fifth & minor sixth” chords in a song (in just about any order) is the most fundamental and basic of songwriting.
Yield is underrated. It was a goody .. Though I'd have to go with Versus as my favorite Pearl Jam record (raw, explosive yet catchy .. stripped down). Great video!
Have not played in a while but starting to work my fingers remember the chords getting my fingers moving thanks
Thanks! I call the Tom Petty G chord fingering "folk G." But yeah, it's really useful! Much easier transition from the C chord, too! :)

My all time favorite album is "Plastic Surgery Disasters" by Dead Kennedys, so how about a "Moon Over Marin" tutorial?
It’s not that hard to figure out. I managed without tab. Playing it as well as East Bay Ray is another matter though 😊

So funny - last nite I was lying in bed and had the idea to tune the B string to A and it makes lonely really cool! Look for it in a soon to be announced album and a how to play vid to follow - thanks for knowing!!
With those chords you can play like 90 % of all the popsongs. Those are the money!
Yield is your favorite album? That's pretty cool. I particularly love Pearl Jam's experimental "weird" phase that was in full swing at that point. Plus Do The Evolution and Brain of J are two of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.
