The beauty of guitar is that no matter how much you think you know, someone can just take 10 minutes out of their day to giggle and say "here, take a couple stabs at this and erase the last 5 years of trying to learn how to solo and turnaround with ease." You have a real gift, Tony. Thank you for sharing it.
You are absolutely right. Playing blues on the guitar, the simple good old blues principles always work: 12 bar Blues, call and response and turnaround.
You had what is called a breakthrough, my friend. Being self taught, largely before TH-cam existed, I can tell you that you can give Tony the credit, but you’re the one who figured it out. I often marvel at how something I have seen or heard or tried to learn so many times in the past will suddenly click, and my playing goes to another level. I’m just glad people like Tony can make a living, providing something so helpful to so many people, for free.
Ty, I don't play the guitar but I love the improvised playing sounds. If I ever learn how to play an instrument, that would be the most important thing for me to learn. Edit: I dont know why I'm telling a complete stranger this, but I'll just keep it
@@ditoo2002 I bought a guitar with the intention of learning it. Life got too busy. I’m there with ya. I wanna give it a go again here in the near future when I have more time and energy to dedicate to it
Despite watching this one in detail from start and rewinding a bunch, I liked your comment on principle because timestamp commenters are the best type of people. Never stop being your same helpful self, good sir.
Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that you're enjoying the lessons and connecting with the blues. Keep up the great work! Thanks for watching :)
Good lesson, i learned blues just by getting too stone in my 20's, i'm 45 not even sure i can play this still, blues is a simple or complex as you like to make it, nice riffs, a lesson on blue grass style would be really handy for me
The Blues is a great way to start playing licks and getting naughty it. I learnt something similar but also completely different and the beauty of 12 bar blues is that I can play my thing over what you just played and it would sound great.
When I was a beginner, I always appreciated it when a guitar teacher on TH-cam would bypass music theory and just show me how to play what I wanna learn. And now that I know a little bit about music theory, I appreciate bypassing, music theory even more. This was a good lesson, with skills that can be used no matter what you play.
I am a hillbilly for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Maybe it's because of my hard to follow accent, but I understand every word this man is saying. The Scottish accent isn't far off from the backwoods hillbilly drawl. 😂
I taught myself to play starting at age 5. I was 18 when getting on TH-cam and learnt a song became popular. So I can freestyle for hours but I can only remember one or two songs at a time when I learn them.
Hey this video was genius! Rerally fell into the style of it kind of easy and as someone who is like 90% self taught I can honestly say you're the best youtube video for guitar that I've seen and I mean that. Hope you keep up your styleish videos!"

Are there tabs to it? Im struggling to understand some of your words. This seems so easy and ive been struggling to learn guitar for 20 years and would like to finally play something that sounds good. Thy,
That has to be a thing where you are from. I've never heard anyone in America ask for someone to start playing anything so they could sing random words. 😂
At this stage of my learning, I'd be afraid to take my guitar to a camp fire, someone would chuck it on the fire. Great vid, I'll keep watching, re winding, and learning from it.

Most Guitar teachers don’t want you to know this stuff until you’ve spent a fortune. 😂
It hasnt even been a year for me yet
What they ^ said. Thank you Tony. Amazing

Can't forget wagon wheel :D
Right? Blues never felt like campfire vibes

Ditto. Grew up in the hills and valleys of rural PA. No problem understanding whatsoever.
Hill people are just the bog people who took the boat to America
Same from the hills and hollers of WV lol 👌😂
Yep! Same here...rural Southwest Virginia
I'm from Arkansas and it's hard for me to handle that accent.

I really love the accent! But just to make sure: is a loak a lake?
Loch is basically the Scots word for lake
I had to play this at 50% speed to understand, but that's on me haha. Thoroughly enjoyed your video, thank you

What key did the traveller play in? Pi-key.
I don’t know why, but I hear Stone Temple Pilots’ Plush with that turnaround from 4:00 - 4:50
Tony, the moral if the story is: never trust anyone who can play prog on an acoustic when supposedly blootered! 😅
Well….I’m Canadian and I also understand every word he said.
