      Steven, you have it wrong in that you believe Trump will want to control the left. He never has. It is the left who wants to increase (change) the amount of Supreme Court Justices, so that THEY control it. Not allow that to happen thru natural attrition, as it's always been. It is the Left who's talking about changing our constitution to suit them, not the right. It's the left who didn't primary, allowing the people to vote their candidate into candidacy. We don't even know for sure who's running the country right now. If that were Trump voted in like that as the Republican presidential candidate, we'd probably be in a civil war, but because it's Democrats, Republicans aren't even fighting back about it, except thru words. Please wake up as to who REALLY is taking rights from THE PEOPLE. This coming from an American who considers himself an independent who sees more wrong coming from the Democrat side BY FAR! Remember it's Trump that's had assassination attempts twice now. Not Biden or Harris...

      A question I wished I could have asked if I was there in the interview.... Can Humans trick/manipulate an Algorithm?
      I believe the abscence of a 'Mind' in an AI Machine is its weakness, which can be a human strength that cannot be replicated by a machine.
      The unpredictability of the Human Mind can be a weapon against AI Algorithms.

When it creates what man currently cannot. Then, we will have another species that'll be faster than us in evolution. The guest here left out the consciousness aspect of CREATION. I wonder, blaming fear, hate, greed (human traits/weaknesses) and company algorithms (not AI) seems to be a smoke screen for hiding who actually wants to define what hate speech is in order to gain control through punishment, censorship and eventually self-censorship.
    We need absolute free speech, within the boundaries of the law.

    • @bigbritishcolumbia7827
      @bigbritishcolumbia7827 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Absolute free speech and algorithms optimized for engagement, will then INCENTIVIZE hate speech and polarization. He actively states he supports free speech and that individuals have the right to express hate, but the algorithms should not be propegating these fear-based narratives. If you listened, he says that nobody has the right to define hate speech. But simply that hate speech should not be incentivized by the algorithms.
      The problem is, now that these systems are optimized for engagement and engagement being the biggest money maker (maximize time spent on app) , there is no way of convincing these private companies to make less money, for a better society.

      ”Hate speech” is a subjective term. If you use it, you need to define it, otherwise it means nothing or everything. In other words, maybe it’s better to leave it alone, and accept it as a symptom of a societal condition which might need to be adressed rather than supressed.
      I agree that malicious algorithms can be set to develop incentives for polarization, but that can be on purpose for furthering otherwise unwarranted control. The important question becomes, who controls those who control the algorithms, and what their objectives are.
      The corporations you refer to are dependant on advertising revenue. In other words, there is a way for companies to affect each other through their own actions. Fascism is partially defined by a malicious systematic collaboration between government and big corporations at the expense of their own citizens.
      There is a certain organisation that facilitates this kind of cooperation, who has ”penetrated the cabinettes” (to quote it’s founder) in order to drive the world in the direction of their own agenda. Last time I heard about it, Harari was no. 2 in that organsation. What does that say?

    • @bigbritishcolumbia7827
      @bigbritishcolumbia7827 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ES_5172 hate speech can be defined as addressing an issue through the means of emotional / personal attacks which are unnecessary to the issue. Personally I’m a free speech absolutist as I agree that we should voice all concerns freely ( mysogny, racism, homophobia) so we can properly deconstruct those ideas and find the roots of the problem, as we are not inherently hateful to other humans.
      Maybe a solution to this could be a bot, that, whenever it senses a form a *hate speech*, it can try to understand where the users comment is coming from and repeat back their frustrations and offer some feedback. So then when someone comments something emotionally polarizing, the next comment can offer the people reading to at-least understand the point their making and where their frustrations are coming from.
      For example, someone comments “indians are stinky”, and the bot can comment “this person feels Indian heritage norms don’t align with western values of hygiene”. So atleast when people read the comment they have better general understanding without emotions getting in the way.
      This is an idea I have to help balance against these algorithms and try to unite people to a common understanding of problems using general un-biased non-emotional language.
      As for Harrari being a part of WEF. I would argue that through the rapid advancement of capitalism, we’re at a point where the powerful oligarchs have won the game and beaten the system. Mark Zuck just admitted to collabrating with the FBI to censor truthfull info during covid. But this has been happening for a while and will continue.
      The WEF is just another powerful Coorp which will lean into corruption. Just because he’s apart of that coorp, doesn’t make his ideas 100% corrupt. I respect your suspicion of him, but what he was saying about the algorithms was spot on. Especially since social media is so powerful, we need to have more conversations on its effects and side effects and at the end of the day its all about incentives.

      For once, I think companies need to lobby hard and ensure we don't become Russia/China 2.0.
      To me, hate speech is repeated, suggestive violence against a specific type of individual. A one-off insult is not hate speech. To others, however, it is.

      @@kaitlin8669 many of my friends are teachers. 100 years ago a teacher wouldnt hug a child! He would scold it with a stick if it was missbehaving. The schoolsystem which was put in place in europe and is still visible now needs a makeover. In ancient times you had to proof yourself first for a good teacher. Then maybe he would say ok I'll teach you. And it was one on one. Thats what we also would need now. But it would be too expensive also there arent so many experts for just one person. Hence AI can come in handy. I know many kids who are bilingual just through interacting with an ipad. Yes their parents take care of the games it is allowed to play and how much time it spends, but it is pretty fascinating that this is possible without having to pay for anyone. the idea is to get the right kind of apps and tools and then maybe specific experts and group interactions to solve issues. But if there are classes of 20+ kids half of them not speaking german and misbehaving there is not much a teacher can do. Even if there were more teachers..Essentially a child needs one on one and then to practise the skills others kids to solve playfully issues and being pushed by an adult in case they need guidance. Its the same with elderly care. I much rather have a robot which is a 100% correct in all the medical care I need and has no self interestt in killing me or a bad day where he could be a bit off. But for a couple of h a day I wanna have someone to talk to, not physically taking care but mentally. Essentially it comes down to how we gonna make use of those new opportunities. Yes we need human interaction, but we dont need overworked teachers or nurses who just become angry as they have to handle way to many people and hence cant be calm with everyone. A child deserves an individually created program for itself so it grows with its potentials and and older person deserves someone who undrstands their wake and sleep times and food habits, doesnt force him into a scheduel which is toatlly against his nature and mainly makes sure he is kept vital and healthy. Human connection that will be somethign which I see more potential for humans. There will be a lot who suck in that, and those will probably have an issue with jobs, as unless they are super smart, they are not needed anymore.

      Not all of them. It's hard to look for hope, but there's a lot of silent people in the world plugging away at the problems that our world is buckling under. I imagine it like this:
      This giant boulder is collectively, slowly pulling humanity towards a cliff. If the boulder falls off the cliff and you're trying to stop it from the other side, you get shoved off first. So it's scary and people don't want to put themselves in front of the boulder, not realizing that if that boulder goes off, eventually that will pull all of them down. So yeah all these people are currently standing in front of that boulder, sacrificing their bodies and minds first. Why don't you and I join them? I am studying linear algebra right now. My goal is to work on specifically AI in the medical field so I can find ways to alleviate suffering from chronic illnesses that don't get enough attention/solutions.

If whats there saying is off putting and you think its “false”. Its your duty to speak up and point out whats making it false. By calling them “blind” and wrong for voicing “political” opinions you are part of the problem of both the people who want to censor free speech and to the people who use personal and emotional attacks and arguments instead of intellectually pointing out what you think is wrong to foster a meaningful discourse on how to create a better world/society.

It would be a weakness (as suggested by Yuval), to only hear what you want to hear when that is not reality. Strength comes from facing reality, warts and all. It doesn't mean that they adhere to a cohesive narrative preached by the organization's leader. There is no doubt that yuval has fairly steong progressive and leftist beliefs, but he is by no means deaf to libertarian and enlightenment values. A hugh false narrative among my conservative bedfellows is that he wants to rule society through a technological uber-mensch/system. They have been fed this distorted version of him because he has spent so much time explaining how all biological creatures are pretty much operating on a vast, autonomic biological network (our bodies are a series of chemical chain reactions, as are most of our thoughts), enhanced by heuristic thinking. He points out correctly that humans will inevitably merge with technology (we already do: pacemakers, contact lenses, hearing aids, artificial limbs and implants, ...soon our phones and artificial intelligence will be tiny devices, like contact lenses, that we choose to place permanently on or in our bodies to give us virtual superpowers.

    11:30 Harari says that "Democracies are made possible only by information technologies." While this may be true for pure democracies, it is important to point out that we, in the USA at least, do not have a democracy. Rather we have a representative republic in which the representatives of the people are meant to reside in the local area to gather the sense of the people, then return to the House and represent those people. This system is not dependent on the type of information technology to which Harari is referring.

    Yuval Noah Harari specifically criticizes the following industries for inflicting unnecessary misery on animals:
    Meat industry: Harari describes modern animal farming as "probably one of the worst crimes in history" due to the suffering it causes.
    Dairy industry: He is particularly critical of this industry, stating it is "founded on breaking the bond of love between mother and offspring" by separating calves from their mothers.
    Egg industry: Harari mentions egg-laying hens being confined to cages so small they can't even flap their wings.
    Factory farming in general: He criticizes the treatment of animals as "cogs in a giant production line" rather than living beings with complex emotions and sensations.
    Industrial agriculture: Harari compares modern industrial animal farming to the Atlantic slave trade in terms of the indifference shown to the suffering caused.
    Harari emphasizes that these industries treat animals "not as living beings that can feel pain and distress, but as machines." He argues that the sheer scale of animal suffering caused by these industries makes them particularly problematic from an ethical standpoint. While he acknowledges the economic benefits of these practices, he believes they come at an unacceptable cost in terms of animal welfare.
