Tool storage ideas: Make french-cleat tool holders and organize your tools

- I show you how I made some tool holders and explain what I learnt making them. The tool holders (for screwdrivers, chisels, hand planes, measuring tools) are combined into sets of tools that go up on my french-cleat tool wall.
Tool storage is a never-ending story in any woodworking shop. It has to be flexible and practical since every woodworker wants to have their tools at hand and organized. I’ve had a french-cleat tool wall for some years now and I’m still very content with the system. As my tool collection has grown I’ve made some more tool holders.

Andreas, I just ran across this video at the perfect time. I'm currently in the process of outfitting a French cleat system. I especially like the idea of spacing the measuring tools off of the backboard. I share your concerns of having chisels exposed as I've seen by so many woodworkers. The pockets for the screwdrivers are a nice aesthetic touch but since the handles are still resting on a flat surface I don't see how they would help stability. I still appreciate the detail work there and how the measuring tool holders are nicely rounded over. While I generally prefer narrated tutorials, the first portion of this video is well done to illustrate your builds without words.

I love your holders. They are well thought out and quite efficient. I am in the process of putting one up now, and have been looking for ideas for hangers. I believe I will be coming back to this video to make some notes. (and steal some ideas)

My tools are all accumulated, handed down from as far back as my great grandfather. Also I like to rummage for older tools and restore them.. I hardly have 3 screwdrivers or chisels that match... any tips?
Where did you get that nifty looking device to hold your drill? I'd like to be able to drill precise holes but cost and space preclude a drill press. The device in your video looks like a wonderful solution.
