    She’s a good looking boat. I bought the same boat not too long ago. It’s an 8522 and it’s my first sailboat I’ve ever owned and I’ve watched her other video. She’s in excellent shape. I’m working on mine now I’m new to sailing so I’m learning as I go watching different videos. She’s a good looking boat and I haven’t even had mine in the water yet. I’ve been doing a little bit of work to it been watching different videos learn how to do the rigging and all that I’m in I’m learning it just want to tell you she’s a good looking boat.

      Thanks so much. We got her when she was pretty beat up, but with just a little elbow grease, she came to life. You will love sailing the 22. We have since moved up to a 41 foot Hunter, but we do muss this one. She's till in the family, so I can go see her whenever I want 😊

    Excellent demonstration of how to raise a mast slowly, safely and in control all the time. You obviously understand physics, leverage and pivot points. I watched 4 people raise a mast on a similar boat about a fortnight ago. They didn't have a 'bipod' or 'babystays'. It took about 5 goes and I was sitting there ready to call an ambulance at any point. How they didn't hurt themselves I will never know. Scary.

      Thank you. The baby stays are the key...without those and without those adjusted properly, the job becomes very difficult. Thanks for watching.

    Very nice video and great ingenuity. Very cool boat as well. We learned on a Holder 20 and sometimes I wish we had a smaller boat to take out for little cruises in our bay.

      Life at Six Knots thank you. We just bought a 41 foot Hunter and we are concerned that we won't sail much since it's so big compared to this little one. We will be sailing "full time" in about 3 years, so didn't have much of a choice.

      Very nice. I think if you like to sail you will still spend a good amount of time out. Much more forgiving than a smaller boat. We are still new to sailing so we stay on fir weather, plus it is our home. Congrats on planing to go full time. Hope to see more videos.

    We back the boat in with the mast up. Putting the mast up is a little more challenging with the side to side swinging of the mast (from the boat rocking). As far as the trailer extension, this time we did not need it. Some ramps that are steeper or deeper, we may need to extend the tongue of the trailer, but that's rare for us.

    Does the bipod say on the boat?
    im interested in making one do you have the dimensions?

    • @SailingPauHana
      @SailingPauHana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can leave it on or take it off. No real dimensions...i just mounted it from the sides near the portholes and ran it to the front center cleat. Its not a precise thing. I used old side mirror mounts to mount the bipod to the boat on both sides and simple eyebolts at the point (one on bottom and one on top). The tubing is chain link fence poles..super cheap.

    Nice work! If we had kept our Com-Pac 23 I would have eventually rigged something like this up. :)

      Thank you. That may be the last time we need to do it as well. We are hoping to sell the boat this season since we bought the bigger boat. 😃

    Curious how you launched into the water.... hoist or down the ramp? If you back her in, do you use a trailer extension to get enough depth to clear the keel by floating off the (back of the) trailer?

    my question is were did you get the anchoring hardware at the bottom of the bipod. I also have a 1983 22' hunter. i tried to use a gin pole I made myself. the attempt ended in disaster. Also, where did you tie off the other end of the jib up haul line.

      @SailingPauHana  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim O'Brien we used old Ford F-150 mirror brackets for the pivot point

    • @SailingPauHana
      @SailingPauHana  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim O'Brien we had an eyehook on both sides of the bipod. One hooked to the jib halyard and the other to the main sheet that we used to pull it up.

    • @jimobrien7490
      @jimobrien7490 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking of the other end of the jib halyard line. i could not see where it was tied off to. I was thinking of a cleat attached to the bottom of the mast, but was hoping for another way so i don't have to put a cleat on the bottom of my mast. some way to hold the halyard line fast while the main sheets are pulling on the mast. I can't wait to take her out on the water, and raising and lowering the mast is one of my hurtles.

      thanks! they looked like they worked well. no wonder I couldn't find them on westmarine's web site.

      Jim O'Brien yes, the other end of the jib halyard is pulled tight around a cleat near the bottom of the mast.
