    I lack knowledge to say its the ultimate sports tourer but I have owned mine since June of 2022 and what I CAN honestly state is that this bike is an absolute blast in the twisties! It took me a couple months to get my skills back after being out of street bikes for many years (long ago I did a lot of twisty miles on Honda Interceptor and Suzuki GSXR then had to switch to MX to make my wife let me continue riding) But once I got my confidence back man this bike is really quite the canyone carver! AND it ihas been wonderful for many thousands of miles of light day touring of 200 to 250 miles typically. I am even vine with both the seat and the windscreen. And I never notice the "cartoon face" of the dash unless I think of it talking to someone about my bike. I ride it hard enough the OEM tires were gone by 2500miles in case you doubt I am seriously riding it....plus in the canyons I am only getting maybe 32 mpg as opposed to 50 on the highway or at least sometimes 50 depending on who I am riding with. I think the suspension is great but I would like better brakes honestly. I also would enjoy but absolutely have no need of more power ....It is quite fast honestly but I keep thinking massive power could be entertaining but idk....I mean it does not loft simply twisting the thrittel like I suspedt a 70 pound lighter MT09 might? Or various full on liter sports bikes might? Or big twin sportsbikes like ktm 1290s or such?

    Having just moved to this from the 2018 Tracer GT I can’t help but agree with Mossy - although I find the panniers super practical, so can forgive them their shape.
    I loved my old GT and rode some pretty epic adventures, so it’s clearly a very competent bike. The new GT however is very different and a worthy successor; in my opinion. As mentioned in the video, Yamaha had an already fantastic bike and took it to the next level.
    Looks are completely subjective, so whilst I personally like the styling, it’s a bit irrelevant for me to say so.
    Over all, I could say I’m glad I changed to the new GT, but that’s not strictly true. I was very happy with my old GT, so in truth, I’m actually just glad that this bike hasn’t been a disappointment. That would have been a bitter pill to swallow. The fact that Yamaha have taken many aspects of the old bike to the next stage of development is merely a billy-bonus that I’m happy to take.
    Did I really have to change? Probably not. Am I glad I did? Yep.

      @@bhughes1120 I’ve found the stock saddle to be comfy (for me at least) up to 6-hours of continuous riding. The comfort seat on my 2018 GT was comfy on my endurance rides up to 26-hours straight; by which time fatigue was my limiting factor rather than comfort. So, I now have the comfort seat on order for the new GT.
      I don’t do two up riding so can’t comment on that I’m afraid.

    So, there's a Tamworth in Wales...
    The home of country music in America, is Nashville.
    The home of Country Music in Australia, is Tamworth.
    Tamworth is at one end of the Oxley Highway, which goes from central NSW over the ranges to the coast (about Port Macquarie) and it's one of the greatest rider's roads in the world. Every kind of corner or straight or road conditions you've ever imagined, not to mention scenery, you can find in that hundred km or so of road. You ride one end of the Oxley to the other in a spirited manner, and you know everything worth knowing about that motorcycle. So, going to Tamworth on a new sports tourer as a test, that's got a very familiar feel about it to an Australian.

    Glad Yamaha ditched the OE Dunlops of the previous GT, what I own. Never experienced tyres that slipped and slid around in the wet so much ever before, which ruined all confidence in anything other than perfectly dry conditions. In Scotland? IDK about best, it's not perfect but it's very capable and easy bike to ride. In my opinion, a touring motorcycle needs a centre stand or shaft drive, the 1290GT has no support for that. Other than that, yeah the SDGT is awesome too.

      Had a Z1000SX for 35,000 miles, and I reckon the SX wins for looks (just because the Tracer is hideous, not because the SX is extremely pretty), by being a bit more exciting handling-wise, and by having a bit more oomph. But I would say that, since I own one. The Tracer is quite a bit longer and the height puts the weight up higher so it lumbers a bit more - but I daresay it's more comfortable for distance.
      Ultimately the sport touring equation I think is decided by how much sport and how much touring you want, when you're comparing two bikes around the same price like this.

    What's the throttle response on this model like? Still snatchy as MT09 was? I had 2015 tracer 09 for 3 years and sold it for that effing snatchiness of the throttle. sometimes it would be rideable but sometimes it would get so bad it was taking a lot of fun of riding away ;/ you start the day, it rides fine for half an hour but then something flicks and it's snatchy again. or one day it's fine, another it's terrible. I've got a 765RS now and the throttle response is unbelievably smooth comparing to the MT09. and I have to admit mine had the ECU fine tuned which made it better but far away from what I'd consider acceptable. the engine in overall is much MUCH better in the MT09 comparing to the street triple in my opinion. both sound and flexibility.

      Lake Vyrnwy is in there, so assume around that area. Some cracking roads round there.

    I'm still waiting for yamaha to admit that a tracer 900 with long travel suspension is what people actually want, instead of the 1200. Something like that would sell like hot cakes

      I’d agree, unless they did what the people really want and that’s to put a CP4 in a new lightweight super tenere chassis and go head to head with the MS V4

    I'm a bit unsure why Yamaha hasn't made a Tracer 10 yet.. This style of sport tourer with an MT-10 engine in it would be even more of a good thing.

      @@iamtherealzombie not quite the same I grant you, was just pointing out that Yamaha made an (albeit half hearted) attempt with the mt-10 touring by fitting panniers, a screen and some handguards

    I’m thinking of getting one of these or a bmw f900xr , you say it’s a bit tall but how tall are you and what’s your inseam ? I’m 5ft8” with 29” inseam and the bmw lowered is perfect for me but lacks a bit of excitement, so if a tracer with a lowering link on is low enough , it seems to have the excitement the bmw lacks so may be a better option ? Please help me decide cos I’m torn !

    I am curious to see how this bike compares to the Kawasaki Versys 1000. Personally, I find the looks of the Kawa a lot more appealing than the Tracer 9. The price difference is of course one thing.

    If you went around to Boothy's Salmon farm on that thing, imagine how many fish you could steal and fit in the panniers. You may just be able to outrun the crazy bastard when he realises what you have done too. Depends if he is wearing shoes or not. If he is wearing shoes you are done for hahaha, I hear the dude runs on all fours like a horse.

    Can you stop telling people we have very good motorcycle roads here in Wales please. We sick of the non welsh weekend warriors crashing their bikes here bringing the old bill out in force when us locals want to go playing at warp speeds in the twisties . Taaaaaa

    I'm still struggling to call this a sports touring bike. More of a cross over, like the BMW XR bikes, imo

    • @westers1514
      @westers1514 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've never ridden an XR; if you had, you'd know it was more than capable of being a sports tourer. TH-cam "Cuban Rider S1000XR" and see what an unmodified XR can do to sports bikes🙂

    • @philipe.9466
      @philipe.9466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@westers1514 I never said that these bikes aren't capable. When I think of sports touring bikes I think of fully faired bikes like the BMW K1300S, Honda VFR lineup or the SX bikes from Kawasaki. The Tracer doesn't have the looks or the seating position of a proper sports touring bike. That doesn't make it inferior, but it changes the classification.Lots of bikes are capable of touring AND sporty riding, but that doesn't automatically make them a sports touring bike. You wouldn't call a Ducati Scrambler an adventure bike just because it's also off-road capable, would you?

    • @westers1514
      @westers1514 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The scrambler doesn't pretend to be an adventure bike, so I'd never think it was one.
      However, the sports touring market has expanded to be way more than K1300's and Honda VFR's. The world has moved on, and a bike no longer has to look like a sportsbike to be a sports tourer. XR's, KTM Superduke GT's, Ducati Multi's, all sports tourers.Having done multiple 1500 mile tours on the XR, and easily hung with sportsbikes, I can say it's very much a sports tourer.
      However, agreed that I'm not sure the Tracer 9 GT is a sports tourer, but I'm still in my 1 litre engine phase, so I would say that😀

    • @philipe.9466
      @philipe.9466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@westers1514 Different opinions I guess. When I'm picturing a sports tourer I'm still expecting a bike that's at least somewhat close to sports bikes in terms of looks. I agree that the XR is a phenomenal piece of German engineering, however it doesn't give me the look I'm personally interested in. That plus a seating position that's closer to a GS than a RR is the reason I'd call it a crossover. The category exists for a reason, since there are enough variables that are unique to crossovers. Similar to SUVs in the car world.
