I'm a tennis player who just got into pickleball. You definitely can and should hit topspin, especially with the more gritty paddles. I play with a semi western grip on the forehand and a two handed backhand and have had success hitting my groundstrokes very similarly to tennis. If you see how Quang Duong plays, I think he uses a full western grip on his forehand, which is more rare in pickleball but can be done.
Here in San Diego they converted all 12-15 tennis courts in a club into pickleball just because they earn more money renting courts all day long. Sucks! Also there is nothing more annoying playing tennis next to someone playing pb. I don’t mind pb as long as they get their own courts and not INVADE or take over tennis courts.
Ignore leebr below. Thanks for giving pickle a try, there's no need for our Tennis player base to despise Pickleballers. As long as cities/towns have enough courts for all, more people are out, staying active and having fun. I loved seeing the MPH from Swingvision.. Especially contrasting to your serving videos a few months back.😂
i'm a tennis player and i tried pickleball to teach my daughter some racket sport where she can handle the racket more easily. i found myself needing to slap the wiffleball more - like lots of wristy action - that would not be good in tennis - just to get enough pace on the wiffleball. i see your strokes in the video are really too athletic for pickleball, in my opinion. you are using tennis strokes with good kinetic chain from the ground up and i just don't think that much strength is required in pickleball. it may actually cause you to hit with less velocity b/c you really need to just slap at it to get it going. when i used my arm in pickleball, it felt like it hurt more than just whipping my wrist around b/c there is no weight on the paddle.
