I had the same thing happen and I handled it the same way. I love the part about the value of time and about reminding people not to worry and stress over things that happened already. That is probably the most valuable lesson you can share. That's a living the best life lesson.
Whenever I sell anything online, I always make sure to put communication and customer service top-notch for the customers buying from me while also being as transparent and honest as possible. It always puts a smile on my face when I'm able to make the customer happy and they respond with nice comments.
How you deal with issues or problems stands out in people's minds way more than just delivering great service in the first place. Same idea for how I would have handled it, great video ;)
Absolutely. I had an incident where a seller sent me the wrong item, and after I contacted them they simply sent me an address and told me to send it to the address and they’d send me the correct one. Considering doing that is totally off the books and my money would not be covered my EBay I felt inclined to leave a bad review.
I just went through the same thing last week as well. Sold an item through GSP and shipped the wrong item. In that case, I sent the correct item direct international and just refunded the entire order for the trouble. I felt the refund was needed because of the time it was going to take to ship international. Thanks Josh!
Good customer service is definitely key and understanding when to cut your losses is important. You can always make more money but you can never get back lost time, time is much more valuable!
I applaud the way you handled this situation. I received a incorrect item from a seller on eBay and thought it could be easily corrected by the seller sending me the correct item and I would send him back the incorrect item he sent me. But he didn’t agree I contacted eBay and they agreed with him. I personally think it’s very unfair for the buyer. But you live and learn. Thanks great video and a great way to do customer service
How refreshing Josh! Taking responsibility for your mistake and making it right. We all have an off day occasionally. Beautifully handled honey. Blessings
I agree with letting the customer keep the item when I have mailed them the wrong thing as long as I have the correct one. :) I had a situation where I sent two packages to the wrong person. IF you follow? :) I sent a new mailing label to each customer and ask them to mail the package to each other if you still follow? They were both so gracious and helpful and it all worked out. Honestly in my experience is the rule is customers are great... the exception is the jerk you occasionally have to deal with. I adopted a philosophy and practice long ago with problems... the goal immediately is the fastest path to having it in the rear view mirror! Basically what you said! :)
I accidentally did that on poshmark, twice. The first one was so rude. Sent messages (in all caps) wanting to know when I was sending the correct item. Poshmark sent a free return label and I removed the listing. The second guy was so nice. I let him keep the mistake and sent the correct item. It wasn't worth paying the return shipping.
Yea. I've done it once (sold 400 items ish been reselling for a year now) simple mistake of swapped games with two buyers lol Both were nice one didn't even care said he actually wanted the other game more so he'd keep it lol
It happens. Last time for me I sent 2 people each other's item. Tried to coordinate a cross-ship between each other (on my dime). One person was up for it, the other never responded but left my a bad review after I had just refunded everyone in full and ate the cost of sale. Lesson learned to be more careful.
I am in this boat. One understood after I explained. And the other is hinting they may not send back the wrong item. It sounds weird, but I was curious to look up their address. The person lives in essentially a new private neighborhood the size of a mansion, with a golf course behind their yard. It is simply abusive. Some people!
Some buyers are beyond amazing. I mixed up labels and the two ladies, who received each other’s items, shipped them to the other lady at their own expense. Wow! I did go in, without either asking, and give each a partial refund to cover their expenses…but just an amazing experience. We should all strive to be that kind of person!
You're right about people worrying too much about bad things that can happen. Some sellers gear their policies toward preventing scams from the bad buyers (1%), rather than focusing on making policies and practices to help the honest buyers (99%), to make it easy to attract more of them.
I've done this a few times Once I mixed up two orders and I persuaded the buyers to send their wrong item on to the other guy and vice a versa if I sent them the pre paid mailers ...They kindly did that and even left positive feedback ....I think most customers are nice about mistakes if your up front and polite
Hey I’m in the same situation right now. You were able to have them ship it to each other vice a versa .i was planning on having them both ship them back to me and then shipping it back out to them but what you did sounds a lot easier and saves on shipping costs.
GASP!!!!!! You mean you're HUMAN??😳😉😂 This is one of the main reasons I subscribed to your channel and Instagram page! You give great advice, your shopping videos are awesome, you're not afraid to show the goofs, you include your lovely wife, and of course there's MOSE!!😊💜

I did this same thing with a headphone case about 2 weeks ago. $15 items, discovered the mistake a day after I shipped and sent the correct one the following day. Great advice!
I am now happily using your numbered bins system and put the number right in the sales title. Works perfectly. Organization is not my strong suit. You made it much better. Thank you. Will I still make mistakes?? Yeap , just not as many.
hey dude, I just bought a squishmallow on ebay, and the package came in and it was a completely different plush. seller completely claims they shipped the right item despite me holding literally RIGHT NOW in my hand the wrong squish. How should I approach this? I'm very new to buying stuff on ebay and it was a fairly expensive purchase.
Great video! If you’re new to eBay and you are a seller. You better learn real quickly that the customer is always right. No matter what. eBay will always side with the buyer. I’ve had a great sellers do the same thing when they’ve messed up on my orders. Thankfully, I haven’t had too many issues on my side selling items on my eBay store. But I am definitely with you whenever I mess up, I make sure my customer is happy no matter what. Those positive reviews will make or break your store 🤙🏽
Ive had the same thing happen with a book. Same book different volume. Mine was a nightmare but I sell on Amazon primarily. Amazon returns donk you hard. Glad yours turned out the way it did. Good job Josh!!!!
I have done it, and it is a terrible feeling in your gut when it happens. What I did was put the wrong label on the wrong box. One of the customers did the return, of course the one that got the more expensive item did not. So they got a nice Xbox Halo controller for a very nice price. Was a lesson learned, and there are some of those in reselling =) The most important part of this video is determining the value of your time. Just click accept and go with the flow for the next sale. I can't imagine eBay likes that sort of thing either when it is pushing items.
I made a similar mistake a couple of years ago, except that I suddenly realized just out of the blue that I had sent the wrong ($12) item before it was even delivered. I notified the buyer of my error, told her I was sending the correct item immediately, and she could also keep the wrong one. The lady could not have been nicer about it and left positive feedback. I did not refund any money, though. I dodged a bullet and was EXtra careful after that, for sure.
Had a similar situation. Buyer purchased a pair of timberland cargo shorts and I sent him a pair of Nike cargos. Told him to keep them and sent him the correct ones on my dime.
Hey Man I’m just down the Road in Newberry S.C. . Thanks so much for this video. I watched it last week and literally that day when I got home from work ,I realized had had done the same thing. I did exactly what you did and all is well. Thanks
screwed up recently, too. I had two Star Wars items going out (a Jedi starship and an AT-AP Walker). I inadvertently swapped the shipping labels, as they were packed in identical boxes. The problem is, one of the items was send via Global Shipping.
I usually make the buyer send the item back. Despite my many pictures and detailed descriptions people still buy the wrong thing and then want to return it. I am not going to let the buyer keep the item and give them a refund because they bought the incorrect thing. Generally the buyer has to pay return shipping so I'm not out anything. Sometimes they never even bother to ship it back. If it's a mistake on my end I would generally just send a refund and not require the item be returned.
Dude, I swear, you had perfect timing releasing this video when you did. When my employee got here today, I realized that I had sent the wrong item out to a customer today. The only issue is that it was after another customer ordered the item, and I didn't have any of the item left in stock, but a similar item left. SMDH. Not sure what to do for that one TBH. One item was around $750 and the other $950.....
I have been selling on Ebay since 1997 on and off, for the last three years regularly and I did the same thing - my first wrong item mistake. I did the same thing you did, so it cost me another postage cost and a small amount for the wrong item. My fault, my cost - but customers do come back if they are happy.
Same here. Luckily no one ever became upset, beyond the actual loss of the item(s) as unfortunate and no fault in packaging. The standard response after giving a refund has been, “Do you have any more of this item (or set) that I can purchase?”. What lovely words
Double check those tabs on the headcovers....a lot of times the case opens up and there is a disc in there with multiple numbers on it and you can just spin it around to match the club you want it on. Good customer service though....I do the same thing when I mess up. Keep up the good work
Your buissness will soar with customer service like this. Great job. Unfortunately I just had a not so great buyer leave negative feedback because he received a item that was not what he expected, this comes after I told him exactly what it was and what was included. Let's say ebay will know about this to hopefully remove the negative feedback.
Hey josh great video everything you said was so true. I had that happen couple times before. Depends on the customer if they give me a hard usually I block them. Don’t want to work with them. Specially if you get a negative feed back which happen to me too. But eBay don’t always side with the seller after everything you do to fix it. Can’t wait to see your next video take care
My policy has always been “The customer is right within reason”. If customers are going to be a-holes, I will spend my time taking them to task because they need to learn they can’t bully everyone and get stuff for free. In this case my time spent might prevent someone else from having to waste their time dealing with this problem customer.
Great service Mr. Tornado. My only problem is, as I look forward to your videos, this dang thing was just tooooo short!!🤣🤣🤣. Found your eBay store. Saved it altho I won’t be diggin’ thru them golf clubs🙄. 😉😃
I just sent the wrong item to a buyer a few weeks ago. I sent the buyer the wrong Sony stereo system remote but I caught it the day after I sent it. So I messaged the buyer telling them that they were going to receive the wrong item but that I was going to ship the correct remote the next day. I told them that I would be sending a padded Bubble Mailer with a prepaid label already attached to the Mailer and some bubble wrap with the correct item so they can just slip the wrong remote into the padded Mailer I provided for them and it worked out perfectly.
After 2 years, I finally made this mistake, but mislabeled two packages (each got the other). One customer understood, and the other is being difficult, to the point they are hinting they do not want to return the wrong item they received. My worst nightmare. :(
For medium priced items I typically will send a postage paid return label with the correct item with a note asking them to use it to return the them. They typically do. If they do not - I just get a refund for the postage after a few weeks and just move forward. If I feel they are scamming me, then I ask for them to return the item first......
I had two sets of green footed glasses. Two were wine glasses, 2 were desserts. I shipped the wrong one and discovered it right after I shipped the package. I told the woman I was sorry and I sent her the one she ordered and told her to keep the other pair.. Good business, my mistake, lucky buyer.
I had enough of sellers sending the wrong items and then asking for more money to send me the proper item. I had to move flights to wait for the items then I received the totally wrong item. WTF?
Hey josh! Part time eBay seller here. Have you ever had the issue with your shipped items getting lost in mail? I’ve just recently had to file lost items on 2 packages and the buyers wanted to give me hard times about them never getting the items and I don’t control the mail lol.
Personally if that ever happened if you rectified it by sending a replacement or refund I wouldnt mind I would be upset because I would have to rebuy the item but at least you handled it ironically this has happened to me before my advice is block those customers if you refunded or replaced the item they shouldn't have anything to complain about
The reason I don't just give blind refunds without return is because you'll open yourself up to scammers. You know that people will complain over something stupid in hopes that you give them $5 back. If it's clearly not my fault I'll still apologize and stay polite but I'll tell them that if they want a refund they can do a return. More than half of the time they simply won't return it because they do want the item. If they do return it and I take a small loss oh well. It's about principle in my opinion.
The gentleman in the thumbnail would like to remain anonymous. The gentleman, we will call him josh for simplicity, has now become whom he truly always wanted to be. Instead of fantasizing about his beautiful calves being displayed as intended Josh now wears high heels with pride. He wears them publicly and he is looked up to for his confidence. Haha such a silly thumbnail.
There is usually a disk inside the plastic hanging thing that has multiple numbers so you can open it and switch numbers, saving the manufacturer tons of money making 3-4 of the head covers identical and using one disk with multiple number sizes
KEY WORDS - Quick Response and Solve the Issue at Hand. I had a similar and took only one hour to fix and the speed is what got me positive feedback from that customer. A Great Book to Read: "Eat That Frog" by Brian Tracy.
I have made so many mistakes. I sold a monitor with the wrong model number. I used sell similar and I picked the wrong listing so the monitor was close but not the one ordered. I asked the buyer if he wanted to keep and just pay 10 dollars to cover at least part of the cost of me shipping the item and he took it. I really feel bad when I make a mistake when something comes broken or wrong bc I have been on the other side and its very disappointing.
I had this happen with a book. It was so my fault. Same author different book. oh well. I had sent the right one and had them keep it. I was only out 3 dollars on shipping and cogs. Got great feedback out of it, which is needed as a new seller.
Same thing for me two weeks ago, but with Nike shoes. Wrote the buyer the day after shipping, and called Ebay. Buyer shipped the shoes back but Ebay stepped in unexpectedly and refunded. I had already sent the correct shoes (in the meantime the incorrect shoes also sold). Ebay, Paypal, and the buyer would not provide an e-mail address so I could sent an invoice to get paid for the shoes. So I'm out the cost of the Nike shoes.
Luckily I haven't sent the wrong item (yet) but I am pretty meticulous with triple checking. I bought a lot of model tractor trailers and a lot of them are very similar and mixing a sale up has been my biggest fear. I DID just have an incident that luckily seems to be working out smoothly thanks to the buyer being very kind. I sent out an item and it delivered a couple days later, all good, except that USPS shattered it and it wasn't even a fragile item. Luckily I always overpack and so from the first message the buyer stated they knew I wasn't at fault as the item was wrapped very well. But the box had been crushed totally. They also stated they could fix the item by purchasing a new frame (and I comped the price for repair they gave me) and they didn't ask for anything and even left wonderful detailed feedback about my packaging of the item before I responded to them. I decided I didn't feel right to not offer something as the item was very very damaged so I offered to cover the cost of repair and luckily I had paid for insurance on the item so as long as the claims process goes well they should be able to repair the item and I will get money back via insurance and everyone will be happy. But I was so grateful the buyer was so polite in how they managed the situation because I've had buyers be very rude over issues that were their fault and even before they've bought something so when something like a damaged item came up I was surprised to see such a pleasant message with photos already attached.
Hey Josh! quick question for ya! So I’ve sold many things on Facebook Marketplace in the past, however this past week or so, customers have been messaging me saying they want to purchase the item but the buy now option isn’t available?! I’ve looked at the listings, everything looks fine, shipping info is included? Not sure what to do? Thanks so much!
@@HairyTornado that’s what I was thinking too. A lady sent me a screenshot of her screen where the buy button was grayed out (not clickable). I think it may be because they don’t have their payments set up within FBM? Thanks
With such a low cost item this is probably trivial point, but where you say you are only $2 into the wrong cover so not worth returning however in reality the loss is actually the profit on that item if returned for you to sell..
Didn’t have that situation but an Etsy buyer told me I left the Goodwill sticker on a cup and saucer. I only wonder why she waited three weeks to tell me. I might have offered her some money back if she told me when she got it. Actually I’m kind of surprised because everything gets washed and I wrap in tissue paper first before bubble wrap. Oh well.
I just done this almost exact thing. Marvel action figure. i sent one version and it was incorrect. I am sending out the correct version tomorrow. the guy got 2 for 1. The bad part is, they left a negative feedback without messaging me first.
In December I sold an item for $9. I had .50 in the item. I didn’t wait for the post office to scan it when I shipped, they never scanned. I refunded the money. I later found another of the item for $3. I bought it, had the buyer offer me $1 for the item on eBay, put a dollar in the box and shipped at my cost. At the end of the day they got the item for free...and who knows if the first one ever showed up or not. I’m still waiting on positive feedback. Am I expecting too much?
I just did the same thing I sent a buyer the wrong pair of shorts he still wants the correct pair which I still have. But how do I ship them to him at my expense through the eBay system? Please Reply
I was sent many wrong items, even extras. Was told to keep them or was completely ignored. I had an in-store customer that was buying something "expensive". They wouldn't leave until they got a free bonus item. So I lost $25 on music stand. Awful.
I got a situation but completely different than yours. I received the wrong item from a seller. The seller did not reply to my messages, and the item cost about $60 + $10 shipping. Later, then I had to return the item and paid the shipping cost. After that, guess what, that fu'ker sent me a wrong item again...
I would contact ebay. They will likely refund you for the cost and both shipping fees. I would also leave that buyer negative feedback. That's ridiculous
I sent a buyer the wrong plate, and sent out the correct one as soon as she told me. There was some snow so the package was attempted twice and left at the post office to be picked up. She never did, and after 2 months it was returned to me
Are we still waiting on the 4th installment of the 0 to 1000$ challenge? 😭

I told them that I would be sending a padded Bubble Mailer with a prepaid label already attached to the Mailer and some bubble wrap with the correct item so they can just slip the wrong remote into the padded Mailer I provided for them and it worked out perfectly.
still awesome ppl in this world don't worry happens to us all
After 2 years, I finally made this mistake, but mislabeled two packages (each got the other).
WTF?
I certainly would have done the same! Customer service and satisfaction makes for real business smarts
Josh always has great advice!
I feel and do the exact same thing on my ebay mistake's. Well played. Thanks for the content.
So true! Give the refund take the loss and move on!! Better to focus your efforts on more things
That attitude incurred scammers. Now fixing your mistakes is different from blanket refund example
Hey josh! Part time eBay seller here. Have you ever had the issue with your shipped items getting lost in mail? I’ve just recently had to file lost items on 2 packages and the buyers wanted to give me hard times about them never getting the items and I don’t control the mail lol.
Personally if that ever happened if you rectified it by sending a replacement or refund I wouldnt mind I would be upset because I would have to rebuy the item but at least you handled it ironically this has happened to me before my advice is block those customers if you refunded or replaced the item they shouldn't have anything to complain about
Oh but definitely file something with the mail to try and get your item back or get them to at least pay you for the item they lost
I am still waiting to see what that guy is going to do with those high heel shoes! 😄
@@lawfullucyless6715 Love the backstory!
There is usually a disk inside the plastic hanging thing that has multiple numbers so you can open it and switch numbers, saving the manufacturer tons of money making 3-4 of the head covers identical and using one disk with multiple number sizes
Tommy Armour hasn't gotten around to creating those yet. These were both single tabs with fixed numbers
Great Advice Josh,
KEY WORDS - Quick Response and Solve the Issue at Hand.
What happened? What did he think happened?
I had this happen with a book. It was so my fault. Same author different book. oh well. I had sent the right one and had them keep it. I was only out 3 dollars on shipping and cogs. Got great feedback out of it, which is needed as a new seller.
I’m so glad you tackle the real topics! Bet you will get haters on this video because it slaps them upside their egos 😉
Professionally handled. Well done.
When I have similar items, I place those items in a different sku location...hoping to avoid such a mistake, but in the end it is a mistake.
Need some nuts and bolts. Exactly how do you send a return label or whatever?
Great point Josh!
Mistakes are bound to happen especially when you are in a hurry or your mind is in other places. Josh is human after all. 😂
I get that occasionally but it's always been the customers just not understanding how facebook works
@@HairyTornado that’s what I was thinking too. A lady sent me a screenshot of her screen where the buy button was grayed out (not clickable). I think it may be because they don’t have their payments set up within FBM? Thanks
@@mackenzieyawn3848 that's likely the issues
With such a low cost item this is probably trivial point, but where you say you are only $2 into the wrong cover so not worth returning however in reality the loss is actually the profit on that item if returned for you to sell..
Great advice. Totally agree
Oh well.
To me, if it's an item I really want, and I know the price is good, I wouldn't care if it even had a yard sale sticker left on it! 😏
I just done this almost exact thing. Marvel action figure. i sent one version and it was incorrect. I am sending out the correct version tomorrow. the guy got 2 for 1. The bad part is, they left a negative feedback without messaging me first.
A 4 head cover is called a sweatband.😜 #thatwaspunful
Hahahha
In December I sold an item for $9. I had .50 in the item. I didn’t wait for the post office to scan it when I shipped, they never scanned. I refunded the money. I later found another of the item for $3. I bought it, had the buyer offer me $1 for the item on eBay, put a dollar in the box and shipped at my cost. At the end of the day they got the item for free...and who knows if the first one ever showed up or not. I’m still waiting on positive feedback. Am I expecting too much?
You’re a good business man Josh 😊! But we already knew that!! 😉👍🏻
Awful.
Sounds like terrible customers
So lucky he wasn’t jerk about it.
Is there a way to reprint another label to the buyer on ebay to send correct item?
great advice as always.thats how you do it
Happens to the best of us! Good resolve, I have the same approach :)
love the new intro!
I agree wholeheartedly!
I sent a buyer the wrong plate, and sent out the correct one as soon as she told me. There was some snow so the package was attempted twice and left at the post office to be picked up. She never did, and after 2 months it was returned to me
So weird
Thanks 😊
