I am a single mom and I do ot on the side for 4 years now plus my full time job. It's alot of money but I can not beat the cha ching song when im sleeping or even working.
Im fulltime your indebt need write offs. I buy storage, collection and have a hookup on a friend that does cleanouts. I dont do thrift stores on average i list 75-200 items a week on my 3 stores on bay. Dont really keep track of time since lost wife 2.5 yrs ago ive dived into work which is okay cuz i love it. So i work all the time ebay like 40hr week, go sell at a fleamarket 2x a wk so 12hrs and if cleaning out a unit or going to dump could be 10-20hr. Normaling get 1-3 days off in a month. I gross 75-85k a yr with around 40k in writeoffs.
I’m glad you’re doing well and enjoying your work :) sorry for your recent loss. Careful of burnout though, it doesn’t hurt to take a break when you need to.
The breakdown aka reality in a nut shell. I was one of those who didn't make it. Part of it was I didn't know then, what I know now. Also my areas sourcing is tough. Even having a local GW bins doesn't help much because the competition there is fierce. We have large groups/families coming up from Mexico, and the more eyes, and hands you have out there the better you'll do. Best wishes to all you independent folks on being your own boss, and employee.
Wow, help a newly widowed mom read ebay. I have an eBay probably since 2010😮 I can't Thrift Shop currently stuck in a wheelchair and unemployed. I'm in ICU nurse who got hit bad by covid but I do have a few things I need to rid of like Fendi purse Michael Kors that kind of stuff new with tags
Thank you, it makes me feel better when I go out and don’t find as many things that I think I should. Oh my goodness thank you for the breakdown, I never do that, I never think about my time spent because I am retired, but I’m going to re-look at the way I do my whole EBay business. Thanks
K, i spent 5hrs thrifting today. Spent $93, cog $3.03. Found some high price items that will probably bring in over $100 a piece. I think i had a really good day😊
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with this one. What you're saying is true that things have changed and gotten a lot harder to source primarily at the retail thrift stores, but plenty of us have adapted to either selling in a wide range of categories or switched to a volume based model where they're pushing more transactions at a lower margin. For example, I promise you there was plenty of additional value in the women's clothing, glassware, media, metalware, antiques, toys, etc. If somebody only wants to primarily sell in 1-2 categories, then I agree with what you're saying. That's not the case for everybody though. The people with enough knowledge in a wide variety of categories to spot something that's worth looking up are doing very well, especially since so many people are giving up on the thrifts as a primary sourcing option.
It's definitely true that some people have adapted and are doing well! Keep in mind, I did say there are outliers and you’re clearly in a good area of the country for thrifting. Keep track of your actual income/hour tho. Most resellers just work and don’t know their real effort to income ratio.
It's getting harder over here to find decent stuff (South Oz). I'll sell anything - so I look everywhere. I went to a different town last week so visited all five of their stores, the prices were horrendous! So I came away with five items, one a personal buy. E.g. A Tommy long sleeve fairly basic lightly used - $19.00, Basic T-shirts from the 'cheap shop' for $8.00 each - they cost $4 to $6 at the actual store. Fortunately I only do it part time and have done so for 7 years plus to supplement a pension. I think next year will be my last.... Pity because I love doing it but at 69, it may time to retire and take up painting again 😁 Stay well 'Roots' team 🦘🦘🦘
I would've picked up that Mary J Blige tee. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few months ago, and she just announced a new album and tour. 😉 Maybe even just to rock it. 👍🔥
Hey Ryan why didn't you tell me this 5 years ago before I quit my job lol? Seriously though, great video and I can relate because I have been to all those thrift stores with similar results.

Great video. On days like this, it's important not to press and start picking up items that maybe you shouldn't.
Thanks for a “Real” video!!

Excellent and informative video.
great video. Now I don't feel so much like a resale 'loser' when I don't find very much on some trips. Thanks for this one, Ryan.

Awesome video for keeping things real!
You guys make me miss reselling!

You are loved ❤️
They have a red white and blue up here in jersey. They overprice most stuff but sometimes you catch ‘em slipping 🤣
Absolutely!
❤ty! 1:20 that Goodwill is like the size of a Walmart is here in South Florida😅

Are you aging backwards? Your skin is soooo smoothe.
😊♥️😊♥️
There are full time resellers that only work 40 hours?!?!?
What about tax deductions?
Those would come out as well, something you’d need to talk to your CPA about. Different for everyone.
❤
What about savers
Savers is good, expensive but good

It's true that full-time reselling is hard but it's possible! Just have to diversify
Goodwill is expensive in Az. Not worth going there
Gotta be able to expand knowledge so more items in less amount of stores (less amount of time) 🫨
