Got to see Bruce at Villa Park Birmingham UK 2023 he sang this , made me openly weep, my lost mom & younger brother, beautiful moment, one guy said you ok mate, his wife said he's fine, just leave him, very nicely i must add, so Bruce thanks, only music can tear you apart emotionally one minute, and in the next take you to an all time high. PEACE ✌️
Know what you mean. With most of my family gone and the city nothing at all like when I was growing up I don't go back to my home town anymore but occasionally I weep when I see those old pictures from back then.
When my first marriage was falling apart and we were all about to move I was in a parking lot with my oldest daughter in the car and this came on the radio. I put her on my lap and sang those last verses to her. I cried then and I'm crying now typing this. Bruce's songs speak to real life, real people, and the very real pain so many of us experience.
I feel you. I've done all three of my boys like that. I worked 3rd shift in the textile mill for 19 years across a railroad track. We still have a wonderful small town, but if we don't get a republican in we all gonna be under Communist leadership.
Bruce is a legend. And this song is the one that hits me the most. I was a kid in the early 80s in the Quad Cities when the farm crisis hit the agricultural machine manufacturers like John Deere. Thousands laid off. I remember the downtown stores shutting their doors. Just like Bruce writes in his song. Thank you, Bruce, for being the voice of a generation.
Same man. My Dad worked for John Deere in Ottumwa at that time. I remember sitting on his lap steering the wheel in this old Ford flatbed saying, get an education son. The factory jobs like mine won't be around when you're my age. my Grandfather died walking out of that factory. My father died of cancer from the chemicals talking about going back to the factory when he got better, knowing damn well he wouldn't. In a way it's sad, but there is something said for that type of dedication. Not only my Dad and Grandpa, but my Great-grand father, Grandmother, and two of my uncles dedicated their lives to that place. Even at 4 and 5 years old I remember everyone so worried about losing their farms and jobs, and on top of that the droughts and tornados were so bad during that time southeast Iowa was a mess.
This man didn't just write songs, he wrote social, cultural, geopolitical and political history in verses from people's view, not historians' disconnected from reality. Unlike today's music, his lyrics can be studied to get an insight into our history, collective/individual sentiments, struggles....

Funny, I was 8 years old, the first time I heard this song. My dad was picking me up from school and this was the song playing in his car. Initially, I told him to change it. He said "Listen to it, one day it's going to mean something to ya." That day came to me a long time ago and I've appreciated it ever since. I'm so grateful that my dad showed my the good stuff. ❤
Your dad let you tell him to change the radio when you were eight? Shit a few years back my little brother died and when I brought home my old man's urn. Which my brother had had. A song came on the radio that I didn't like but the old man did. I went to change the station and his urn jumped up off the seat and slapped the back of my head. I drove the rest of the way home in tears listening to a damn song I never liked.
A true legend and a great patriot. Met him 22 yrs with my now wife. Paid for our dinner and sat down with us in NYC. My daughter and son adore him. What a gentleman. God bless
That last line telling his son to take a good look at his hometown will never stop giving me goosebumps. Despite everything that place has put you through and no matter how badly you want to leave, that unshakable pride in where you're from really resonated with me.
We’re scared in America. The guns are out of control and the Republican Party is trying to create an authoritarian state to make it worse. The Republicans just voted against a Neo-Nazi Probe into the military and police and THE MEDIA IS NOT REPORTING ON IT!!!
May be I heard this great over 100 Times and everytime I am fascinated by his voice and the music. Bruce also in these days is absolutely great! Not even a wonderful singer, but also a warmhearted man and human being in his best meaning! Thank you Bruce! I love you and wish you still many many years of life and singing.💝
I'll be 59 Saturday. These were the days to grow up. Poor, but you didn't know it. Free, but you didn't know it could change. I wish so bad we could resurrect these days and our children and grandchildren could taste it.
I'm 59 soon too. My dad died at 59; well actually I killed him; I had help tho! A secret I am sworn 2 take 2 my grave. We weren't raised 2 b rats. So I did 10 years in the pen. My book is about to b released, many free limited edition signed hardcovers 2 give away; just share Ur story with me. Regards & blessings 2 all.
WOW. You see this song in your head. Bruce Springsteen was doing concept albums before it was heard of. The man is a national treasure. I hope he never passes away.
Love this song for sure. But, to be clear Pink Floyd AND many other psychedelic bands were doing 'concept' albums at least a decade before Bruce. He didn't create it.
I'm 55 years old, and child of working class family. But all that doesn't matter. Everyone can see a part of his own life in the stories that Bruce tells in his songs. It makes me calm in hard times. He's like a friend who is always there.
Wish people valued and took care of their hometowns - thing of the past - people don't care - ooo the memories this brings back - the pride we took in our hometown
I love this song it doesn’t matter where you came from,, it’s your home town,,, the words matter no matter where you are from it hits home for everyone,,, we can all relate to this song,,,,❤️
Like I said to Bus Bruce Springsteen you came to the UK in Sheffield at Bramall Lane Sheffield United ground I am a Sheffield Wednesday fan so what I saw him play at Bramall Lane absolutely brilliant that was when I was 12 now I am 47 love you Bruce Springsteen on the street band is it the boss I know that love you and respect
Love this song. I used to sing it to my son when he was little and woke in the night. It always helped him get back to sleep. Brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat whenever I hear it. Bruce is a genius.
This is one of the songs I sing to my daughter at bedtime. Shes too young to understand all the lyrics but I think the emotion he conveys between father and child is amazing!
Bruce is the latest in a royal line of musical artists who excelled in communicating the American experience: Woodie Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and now- Springsteen.
In the mid eighties my Dad/Foster Dad, my big brother and I were waiting for the truck to arrive and we had this album playing while Dad was reading his Louis Lamour book and to our surprise he put his book down and as this song was playing he got a year in his eyes. We were aligned across the warehouse door with Dad in the middle and when the song finished, " This is your hometown" That's when this song became my favorite song after that and when I play this song it brings me back to Bella Coola. If you ever get up to Bella Coola you'll see why. And I now can only picture my Dad and brother now as they both got to go home to Creator.
This is what I consider a tear jerker. No need to belt out the last stanza, or increase it with strings - just pure honesty in song writing. That is what makes the Boss the Boss even 40 years later.
I'm 20 at the moment and I just lost my dad and I was really young when my dad got me into all the 80s stuff.. This song used to be our go to song every now and then... It's sad that I can't listen to this song with him now... This song will forever be really close to my heart 💙 I hope people value every day of their life 😄
In the late 80s I was a teenager, 15-17. My friends and I had posters on our walls. My largest poster was Bruce Springsteen 'Born in the USA'. I loved him then and I love him now.
When the album came out I was 18 years old and thought that this was a dull waste of space on a otherwise great record. Now that I'm (way past) 35, having seen my hometown go boom and bust several times over and "with a boy of my own now" I know that it is a true masterpiece. This song means an instant lump in the throat.
im in my 40s, originally from a small town in the usa, and have been living in europe now for almost 20 years. two weeks ago my dad had a serious heart attack and still isnt doing well. my moms overwhelmed. my wife, my daughter, and i are packing up to move back to "my hometown" to help take care of my parents. i was listening to this song and just started crying and cant stop. cant believe im coming home....
I hope your dad is doing well, your mom is okay and that you are with them now. Going to travel two weeks ago, was it possible or do you still have to go? Wish you all well. This Covid-19 time it's even harder to have a sick dad and not being close to mom and dad. I do know how it feels when dad is sick. My dad became sick and he died when I was 27. I'm 55 now and still think of my dad every day and still miss him every day. Be safe.
thanks you all. I arrived on the 13th of August. we have two mandatory weeks of quarantine at my folks house. my dad has been in the hospital, got out for the weekend, and is going back in on Monday morning for a minor surgery. but it was something else to get 'home' and hug my parents for the first time in 10 years. my daughter is so happy to be here, she saw her first deer yesterday. mom is frazzled. I'm trying to do what I can to help. dad's health is bad. I'm not sure if he does get better, the Dr's say he won't and that the key is for him to not get worse. thanks for your well wishes. it means alot :3
I’ve been to Dublin in 2003 on his concert, stood close to the stage, could not express my feelings with words. That was one of my happiest days in my life, and this is one of my favorite songs ever...
I remember Bruce told a story before he sang this song, it was about his Dad going to work, to make money to buy A turkey for Thanksgiving, then to buy Christmas gifts, then Shoes for school, My Dad a Union Electrician lived this life, I remember wondering why My Dad had to get up and go to work on Freezing Cold days in Buffalo NY, and I cold stay in my warm bed, Dad was working class, Salt of the Earth, and could fix anything, RIP DAD, See you on the other side.
My dad signed a 20 year contract (as a 15 year old) to join the US Navy during WWII as a Filipino National...limited to choice of jobs and max ceiling rank of E-6...sworn to secrecy during Bikini Island nuclear testing, he still has keloid scars that seem to have NEVER healed. He refused to seek a VA disability for injuries that he could not speak nor write about. A year ago, he got his 1st helicopter ride...a life flight to Sarasota Memorial for an fall...doctors there also thought he suffered a mild heart attack...shut everyone up including my sister the nurse (she knows everything, just ask her) by walking TWICE around the entire ward floor instead of down the hall & back...he is still tough as nails !
Really? I remember him saying,"I was twelve going on thirteen first time I saw a dead human being. It happened in the summer of nineteen-fifty-nine. A long time ago, But only if you measure in terms of years. I was living in a small town in Oregon called Castle Rock. There were only 1281 people, but to me it was the whole world.
You guys bring tears to my eyes since we all feel we have/had a hard life. It seems hardship is not limited to specific countries. God bless you all-from Vryburg, Republic of South Africa.👍
Thanks. You got a good heart. God bless. I remember going to school and getting bullies on my way and mum will intervene. Dad will say go fight them. Now I fight for my daughters. Thanks
If you close your eyes, Bruce's lyrics take you back to whatever small town your from, they're all different but somehow the same. Brilliant song as always.
+Giuseppe Ferrazza Beautifully put. It even takes me back to a small industrial coal or steel town, somewhere out in the mid west that I've never been to. I grew up in England.
+Giuseppe Ferrazza - I did the same thing. I'm hoping to go back there this summer with my brother, just the two of us to roam the streets. We are both in our mid 60's.
There's something so authentic about him and his music. I was ten years old when this album came out. Even at a tender age I knew his music was special. It still moistens my eyes. Timeless.
Definitely agree with your opinion, I think the same about John Cougar Mellencamp. His pink houses song is an American Hymn. I had always wonder why these Icons dont go in an all American tour together?
This will always be true for those of us that are 60+…I did it with my daughter when she was 7 yrs old and she has loved Bruce ever since…he is an ICON!!!
There’s a lot to be said about being in our hometown…… I wonder how many of us are back in our hometowns in 2022?? This song still grips me after all these years. ❤️
I've never left my hometown. Born and raised in a town with under 20k population. I married my high school sweetheart, sent her through college and, together, we've raised our family and built a successful small business. We've seen many others leave, only to return a few years later. Don't get me wrong, I've been to every major city in the United States and I'm sure that they can be great places to live. Personally, I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than my hometown.
After working abroad for quite a long time am proud to say am back where it all began! I feel a sense of pride when I walk the streets of my little haven in north Sri Lanka! No matter how much you sometimes hate the place and wanna leave, you’d only know it’s value when you live somewhere else!
Just yesterday 4/18/24 I was collecting cans at the football stadium here in town and a Dad had his two year old son up on his lap while driving around the parking lot...his Son had his hands on the wheel! Just like I did with my own Son! ♥️🇺🇲🙏🗽
1978 my college room mate took me to see Bruce at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. To see Southside Johnny and Bruce was playing with him. Been a big fan of the Boss ever since. Saw him 4 times this year. 14 times total.
he looked great then, but he will always be the greatest one to me. I don't care how old is he now, but he always been my favorite singer and performer for all my life. I just love this man keep rocking Bruce
You know, sometimes I wonder if, somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions as me when they listen to this song. Amazing, unfogettable song and video!!
This is a song about home town across America. And what's been lost. The jobs, the cohesiveness of communities. The losses are tangible and intangible. The path is sadly irreversible. But for many, no matter what has happened they are still our home towns.
I remember, in the mid sixties, sitting on my Dad's lap behind the wheel of his 56 Chevy, letting me steer the car along Maple St. in Saginaw Michigan. He didn't tell me this was my hometown, but it was. God in Heaven, I wish my kids could have had a childhood like mine. Those wonder years, unfortunately, died long before they were born.
+Unit 38 Yes, back when neighbors would block off the street and put picnic tables in the center of the street for 4th of July BBQs the dads would be lighting off the fireworks. Kids running around with sparklers. Those days are long gone. GOD bless this country.
+Unit 38 Same! My dad propped me up in the early '60's in Akron, Ohio. Used to be the "Rubber Capital of the World'" now you'll only recognize us from LeBron James. (Bless him for staying true to his hometown.) I will always love NE Ohio, no matter where life takes me. The Boss gets it.
I was 17 when this record came out in the summer 0f '84. It was so much than just a record. Springsteen created a signpost for a generation. He was at his peak here. Beyond brilliant, an absolute genius with words and music. One of the greatest entertainers ever. So glad this was my generation, I remember...
I was 6years old when I fell in love with this song. I am now 42 still listening to this 🎶 music. My Dad passed away on January 25,2020 and now I even love this song more than ever!!
During Covid 19 I still work, from home, but as a friend of mine in Brazil wrote we've all fallen down the rabbit hole. I rediscovered music I took for granted when young -- a bunch of friends in March 2020 began sharing inspiring videos music books films; there well may be a second wave but the lesson I learned was look out for your fellow man. Lost contact with my only living relative a sister entirely my fault; can't change it, just do my best by everyone else. I find the sheer power of this 3rd album of Springsteen (Kennedy Center Honors don't miss Jon Stewart and Sting!) a huge boost; also My Back Pages live Harrison, Clapton Neil Young Dylan Tom Petty missed some people -- collaboration unique, and so on...
I'm 44 years old and I bawl like a baby every single time I hear this song. The very first song I ever heard through a pair of old school earmuff headphones, was Born In The U.S.A. My dad put them on my head and turned the stereo up to 10 before he hit play. And then LAUGHED AND LAUGHED. I've LOVED Born In The U.S.A ever since. Lol This one is particulalry tuff for me to listen to though, cuz my dad used to work for the local news paper in my home town. So I never ran with a nickle in my hand. But I definitely ran to get a paper FROM my old man MANY MANY times. And the kicker, was that he had a Buick Regal named Dixie that he would let me steer though town while he gleemed and talked about how proud of our gorgeous little slice of heaven town (Gananoque, Ont. Canada) was. I miss my dad so much. It feels like Bruce wrote this for us 🤘
Beautifully done - and closed. Usually when a song ends on a fade-out on a record, it's because the artist hasn't figured out how to close it. Bruce Springsteen did a good job - and made the live version just as powerful as the recorded version. Like Lyle Lovett says, the best ones last. And this song will. Thirty-five years later and it still resonates in the heart.
He is our country, in every way. He is not Trump, not Clinton. He is what unites us all. Bedrock. I was privileged to meet him and Patti, not in New Jersey, but in a gym in West Los Angeles, California. Because he encompasses us all. No other artist really does the way he does. I will always love him for what he has given us.
I'm thirty-five, we got a boy of our own now Last night I sat him up behind the wheel And said, "Son, take a good look around This is your hometown" ( passing on what he remembers & loved about his dad ❤️)
+RimeTime I hear you...mine...a bottom end drunk who was a slave to the bottle. Monsters are fake...bullshit, try living with a 6'4" violent alcoholic demon who spared nobody his sick attention...
snip84 It makes a difference to know someone who wasn't born here can see that the people make the mark, not the government. Bruce simply said it all for most of us and for those that didn't get it, well we're only human. Glad you figured it out. Music!! The better it is, the better we are. ♪
This ballad brings the "Deer Hunter" images to my mind and a lump to my throat every time I listen to it. The two were several years apart. Maybe it was because they were both germinated in the same melancholic era of my youth that's dwindled in the rearview of my memory lane.
Listening in 2019; his songs take me straight to my childhood, picturing my mom and dad: young, dumb, crazy in love.. it feels warm and happy- 30 years later even more special , R.I.P mom&dad💗
So beautiful Bruce Springsteen; I feel the real love coming from out of his body's natural sounds of tone of voice is heartfelt more so rather than the words he is singing, it's really his vocals of called tone of voice that is the real true beauty of his that's heartfelt by millions of people. Love 💘 & Respect to a top king Bruce Springsteen for sharing his beauty for millions of people all around the world to benefit by in some way and or another.
I look back with every passing year and appreciate my simple struggle that was our small town existence. Sadly it's too late for thx my pops is years gone and i miss him so much. But i still have one of my brothers and my mother and i will not waste the years wishing when i look back how much i appreciate them I chose to do so now more than ever
that's what happened in the small town where i lived. the ship yard closed down, moved away, and a lot of the stores closed. nothing really left. their was a shooting there among two friends over a woman. one is dead, and the other has life in prison. sad.my husband and i moved to the country.out of town we left, and it was once a great town to live in. great song. can relate to.
now that's a great Jersey Boy from where i like to visit. my favorite place is Wildwood, N.J. great Boardwalk, and shops, and food. my husband took me there when we where in High school. we are both in our 60's now and we still love going there. such great memories. that's where i first heard this great Band, and singer. yes i may live in Maryland, but Jersey is still number one.... love ya Bruce, a big Fan still.
Bruce is a very humble man and a very good person he also went abroad and I was there Thank you and your band for being kind we love you and your band xxxxxxx
My dad worked as a stock person for the A&P during the Great Depression. He was allowed to bring home almost spoiled food from work and he made enough money to keep the lights on and to pay tuition for night School at Newark College of Engineering. He kept his mom, dad, and brother off of public support, and in 5 years he graduated as an electrical engineer. What a great father figure...his example motivated me to work three jobs to make sure my kids would graduate without college debt. They both played soccer for Towson and now they too are making the sacrifices necessary to properly provide for children. Sadly, no matter how hard they work the costs of raising a family rise faster than salaries. Ironically, the people who work three jobs don't get the deductions for college expenses as it is income-qualified. The world Bruce champions honors independence, hard work, sacrifice, and a true moral compass. Sadly, my grandchildren will have to find their way through a very different world. We are a divided nation that just can't abide by the new commandment Jesus gave us the night they took him ... "love your neighbor as I have loved you." Through his lyrics, Bruce reminds us of the human struggles that define our lives, and through Grace, we find our way.
I took both my sons riding on my lap through my hometown and pointed the same things that Bruce did, except we had steel mills that closed, not textile mills. Both of my sons are dedicated Springsteen fans, too. I tried with my daughter, who was younger, but ended up singing harmony with her to Madonna's songs, which was a great bonding experience but certainly not the same as The Boss.
I posted this song today after the shooting in my hometown Boulder, Colorado 24 hours ago. Just broke my heart. I love this song so much. Thank you Bruce. 💙🙏
it's 2022 we're in the middle of pandemic is anybody else out there listening to this song over and over again and letting loose and letting all the stress go and just believing in the music music is powerful medicine for the mind and the soul this is my hometown this is your home time got to love this song it's never ever going to get old just listen to it and listen to it to a set you free God bless and amen from Maine and Massachusetts
This is an example of how a song should be written. Meaningful words, melody, voice. But above all talent and passion. You either have it or you don't. No use faking it with modern technologies and hype. True music lovers make a distinction of what is music and what is noise.
Excellent piece of art perfectly performed and done by Bruce Springsteen an incredible artist an amazing songwriter, a fantastic performer and a great singer......

He puts the full circle of life into this short song. What a fucking master. Pardon my language but he just is.
The best lyrist
Absolutely no need to apologise. I was a Springsteen sceptic for years, but his music has hit me hard in my 40s.
With Love🙏🧡☀️
Hugs
his lyrics can be studied to get an insight into our history
I feel you. I've done all three of my boys like that. I worked 3rd shift in the textile mill for 19 years across a railroad track. We still have a wonderful small town, but if we don't get a republican in we all gonna be under Communist leadership.
True legend
One of my favorites
Bruce is a legend. And this song is the one that hits me the most. I was a kid in the early 80s in the Quad Cities when the farm crisis hit the agricultural machine manufacturers like John Deere. Farm family here also. We struggled to feed the world all when going broke ourselves

Raised here
A modern Frank Capra...
Performed this in a bar band I was in when it hit the charts. Probably my favorite song to do. I have relatives in PA that lived that thing. It was hard to get through the vocal at times without choking up a bit.

Too bad American culture is being destroyed right now.
@ric Gikonyo this is a result of the Cold War. Russian and Chinese subversion tactics are being used to destabilise and weaken the West. Its sort of like releasing a biological weapon that only began showing symptoms years later.

Love this song for sure. But, to be clear Pink Floyd AND many other psychedelic bands were doing 'concept' albums at least a decade before Bruce. He didn't create it.
Miluji ho ❤❤
Unfortunately...
I'm 55 years old, and child of working class family. But all that doesn't matter. Everyone can see a part of his own life in the stories that Bruce tells in his songs. It makes me calm in hard times. He's like a friend who is always there.
Music THANKS BRUCE STAY SAFE Sandy 🤗
Ff
It also crosses borders. I relate to his songs as a Canadian.
Très joli commentaire
Yup ..I have a few singers I like, but they all pale in comparison to him👍👍
Wish people valued and took care of their hometowns - thing of the past - people don't care - ooo the memories this brings back - the pride we took in our hometown
I love this song it doesn’t matter where you came from,, it’s your home town,,, the words matter no matter where you are from it hits home for everyone,,, we can all relate to this song,,,,❤️
Absolutely born in Miami FL raised in Eastern KY.
it's addictive listening to these song, Unfortunately, artist today have no inspiration and no talent for music. Is this your favorite song?
And the fact so many see their own town in this is even sadder than the song.
I came from a hometown.
yes it reminds me of my small home town . i grew up in . bonnyville alberta canada .the 80s
What a remarkable song and a story of the kind of life the average person lived. Only Springsteen could make this a classic that will live forever.
The boss
Yeah yeah you know it. There’s only one Bruce
❤❤
Without question, one of the greatest songs ever written. In one song, Springsteen speaks truth about society and real life !!
Bruce never disappoints! Thank God for Bruce!
Beautiful story ❤
when my son was in the car he wanted this full blast all the time he loved bruce
Bruce is the latest in a royal line of musical artists who excelled in communicating the American experience: Woodie Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and now- Springsteen.
This song was like a friend to me when I was young. I'm quite old now.
Thanks Bruce!
We all get old I remember Bruce Springsteen when he went to England in the UK at Bramall Lane in Sheffield I love the BossBruce Springsteen
In the mid eighties my Dad/Foster Dad, my big brother and I were waiting for the truck to arrive and we had this album playing while Dad was reading his Louis Lamour book and to our surprise he put his book down and as this song was playing he got a year in his eyes. We were aligned across the warehouse door with Dad in the middle and when the song finished,
" This is your hometown"
That's when this song became my favorite song after that and when I play this song it brings me back to Bella Coola.
+Mi Ga I thought the same thing!!
Brings back memories don't it?😓 th-cam.com/video/0ugIjNCXgFM/w-d-xo.html
Everything is tear jrker i come from north-evry thing

Wow, and Nils was involved...how sweet♡♡♡
I'm 20 at the moment and I just lost my dad and I was really young when my dad got me into all the 80s stuff.. This song used to be our go to song every now and then... It's sad that I can't listen to this song with him now... This song will forever be really close to my heart 💙 I hope people value every day of their life 😄
Rekesang, your dad is still with you because his "sprit" is in your heart & soul. Take to him & he will know, may Jesus Christ guide you.💚✌
😔
I know exatly how you feel! Lost my dad in May 2016 on the same age...and he also loved "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen😉 Thinking of you man!
He's proud of ya mate.
So sorry for your loss. He is still with you when you listen to the music you used to ❤️
In the late 80s I was a teenager, 15-17. My friends and I had posters on our walls. My largest poster was Bruce Springsteen 'Born in the USA'. I loved him then and I love him now.
I loved him then, but his political agenda I don't love and I have given it up
When the album came out I was 18 years old and thought that this was a dull waste of space on a otherwise great record. Now that I'm (way past) 35, having seen my hometown go boom and bust several times over and "with a boy of my own now" I know that it is a true masterpiece. This song means an instant lump in the throat.
Yes sir lump in throat
Awe..
Yes lump in throat and tears in the eyes. I feel at home when I listen to this song and sometimes I listen every day. I am from Zurich,Switzerland
drove through my town last night. tears.
im in my 40s, originally from a small town in the usa, and have been living in europe now for almost 20 years.
two weeks ago my dad had a serious heart attack and still isnt doing well. my moms overwhelmed.
my wife, my daughter, and i are packing up to move back to "my hometown" to help take care of my parents. i was listening to this song and just started crying and cant stop. cant believe im coming home....
Be safe.
Hope everything is ok with you
You will Never regret going home to help...You will forever Feel Good about the "Right" Decision
thanks you all.
I'm not sure if he does get better, the Dr's say he won't and that the key is for him to not get worse.
thanks for your well wishes. it means alot :3
none I hope your dads doing well
Damn good song! I could listen to this song 100 times and still not get tired of it! 👍🏾🤟🏽 Springston could rock!
I’ve been to Dublin in 2003 on his concert, stood close to the stage, could not express my feelings with words. That was one of my happiest days in my life, and this is one of my favorite songs ever...
Taj glas će uvek biti isti koliko god godina da ima. Taj čovek se nikad neće promeniti, jer to je on.
God bless , from a working class dad from Liverpool England
You guys bring tears to my eyes since we all feel we have/had a hard life. It seems hardship is not limited to specific countries. God bless you all-from Vryburg, Republic of South Africa.👍
My dad did the same. God bless you my friend.
We are both in our mid 60's.
yes they do my friend... you couldn't of said it better
+Giuseppe Ferrazza Now I live in Verona (Italy).but I come from a very little town in the country that I can't forget. Bruce'song takes me back there
My family is from Opi, outside of Rome in L'Acquila.
What emotion Bruce Springsteen expresses in 'My Hometown'. Straight from the heart.
It hits you in your soul
Every time i miss my dad i play this song and really makes me cry.. I miss him and i miss my home town too.. This song is magnificent..
I haven't seen my hometown in 29 years and I feel so sad that I might not see it again.
Sergio Pelaez me too
Sergio Pelaez is miss my best friend we moved and i miss her so much. I haven't seen her in 2 years
Super.. .super cool ....le bon vieux temps.....!!+

One of the truly great songwriters.
And a voice you learn to appreciate.
Paul Anka, Roy Orbison, Bob Seger, Billy Joel, Dolly Pardon, to name a few others.
There's something so authentic about him and his music. I was ten years old when this album came out. Even at a tender age I knew his music was special. It still moistens my eyes. Timeless.
You did not.
The something that's authentic about him, is just him being authentic.
Happy birthday Bruce 75 today and still going strong 💪 best wishes Boss 🎉❤
Please, everybody who reads this, let's recognize what a treasure Bruce Springsteen is. He is remarkable!
Well said!!!!!!!!!
I don't like his politics... but tell you what this guy is one helluva an artist. Incredibly talented and as "American" as they come.
@@leecowell8165 yes,for a socialist, right Lee?If not, what do you mean by his politics?
Definitely agree with your opinion, I think the same about John Cougar Mellencamp. His pink houses song is an American Hymn. I had always wonder why these Icons dont go in an all American tour together?
@@pedropena880 💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💝💝💝💝💝💝 ........... Bruce.
This will always be true for those of us that are 60+…I did it with my daughter when she was 7 yrs old and she has loved Bruce ever since…he is an ICON!!!
Wow, I swear I can close my eyes and see every detail of my small hometown, even the brick streets in the town square.
Right? You know it.
True !
There’s a lot to be said about being in our hometown…… I wonder how many of us are back in our hometowns in 2022?? This song still grips me after all these years. ❤️
Gorton Manchester UK, I feel for the people of Ukraine
I do all the time in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada
Live about 5 miles from my hometown, same county! Will be retiring at the lake in a small-town!
Me too no-one before him or after him💕
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A ONE OF A KIND, A LEGEND! #TheBoss 💜🙌🎉 Thank You for all the stories and sharing this journey w us! 🙌🎂
You know, sometimes I wonder if, somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions as me when they listen to this song. Amazing, unfogettable song and video!!
I feel it every time I hear this song.
Yes I am in Trinidad . I can relate to his music and this song!
Of course🙏🧡☀️
Absolutely! This song brings about unexplained emotions. I stop doing whatever I am doing and cannot help but we’ll up in tears❤
🇿🇦
This is a song about home town across America. And what's been lost. The jobs, the cohesiveness of communities. The losses are tangible and intangible. The path is sadly irreversible. But for many, no matter what has happened they are still our home towns.
Forever grateful to come from Bruce’s hometown, Freehold NJ ❤️
I remember, in the mid sixties, sitting on my Dad's lap behind the wheel of his 56 Chevy, letting me steer the car along Maple St. in Saginaw Michigan. He didn't tell me this was my hometown, but it was. God in Heaven, I wish my kids could have had a childhood like mine. Those wonder years, unfortunately, died long before they were born.
+Unit 38 I can let my kid sit in my lap and play grand theft auto? ...:/
+Kris Wood just stop.
+Unit 38 Yes, back when neighbors would block off the street and put picnic tables in the center of the street for 4th of July BBQs the dads would be lighting off the fireworks. Kids running around with sparklers. Those days are long gone. GOD bless this country.
+Unit 38 they'll live on through you Unit 38......memories only die if they are allowed to.....don't let them eh ?......cheers....
Thank you Bruce for such a blessed in fantastic song about family and Hometown. God bless everyone from Patrick
I was 17 when this record came out in the summer 0f '84. It was so much than just a record. Springsteen created a signpost for a generation. He was at his peak here. Beyond brilliant, an absolute genius with words and music. One of the greatest entertainers ever. So glad this was my generation, I remember...
I like this song. I think anyone who lives in a place that has gone through hard times can relate
I miss Croatia and my Birthplace...

@David Mitchell I still cry everytime I hear this song.

During Covid 19 I still work, from home, but as a friend of mine in Brazil wrote we've all fallen down the rabbit hole. I rediscovered music I took for granted when young -- a bunch of friends in March 2020 began sharing inspiring videos music books films; there well may be a second wave but the lesson
I learned was look out for your fellow man.
Lol
This one is particulalry tuff for me to listen to though, cuz my dad used to work for the local news paper in my home town.
It feels like Bruce wrote this for us 🤘
Percebemos a grandiosidade de um cantor quando ele canta ao vivo com essa magnitude! Bruce maravilhoso, que talento!

I was listening this masterpeace in 1989 and I'm happy that now I can back to this song in 2023...
The magical brilliance of storytelling hidden in the words of stars - we have yet to see. ⭐️ ✨ ❤️
This song is so meaningful to me. I feel so sad remembering my old hometown full of memories. Nice performance my idol Bruce.

Ondřej Šponer someone had to say this. congrats.
Bruce Springsteen managed to capture the feel and nuance of small town Americana. This song in particular is very poignant.
snip84 It makes a difference to know someone who wasn't born here can see that the people make the mark, not the government. Bruce simply said it all for most of us and for those that didn't get it, well we're only human. Glad you figured it out. Music!! The better it is, the better we are. ♪
From France and from many years that I've discovered this song, i'm in love with. No one else than Bruce Springsteen could have sing it
This ballad brings the "Deer Hunter" images to my mind and a lump to my throat every time I listen to it. The two were several years apart. Maybe it was because they were both germinated in the same melancholic era of my youth that's dwindled in the rearview of my memory lane.
What a beautiful song. So full of soul and heart.
Listening in 2019; his songs take me straight to my childhood, picturing my mom and dad: young, dumb, crazy in love.. it feels warm and happy- 30 years later even more special , R.I.P mom&dad💗

I’m From A New Jersey small town this hits very close to home quite literally.
Wreaked on by protests and people burning our cities...hits more , yes.
Bruce is simply splendid whether he rocks or mellows
Thank Heaven for Bruce Springsteen

Can I take u with me back to my Hometown hunny,😄
"Troubled times had come to my hometown..." 😭😭😭
that's what happened in the small town where i lived. the ship yard closed down, moved away, and a lot of the stores closed. nothing really left. their was a shooting there among two friends over a woman. one is dead, and the other has life in prison. sad.my husband and i moved to the country.out of town we left, and it was once a great town to live in. great song. can relate to.
now that's a great Jersey Boy from where i like to visit. my favorite place is Wildwood, N.J. great Boardwalk, and shops, and food. my husband took me there when we where in High school. we are both in our 60's now and we still love going there. such great memories. that's where i first heard this great Band, and singer. yes i may live in Maryland, but Jersey is still number one.... love ya Bruce, a big Fan still.
I am 65 and this are the best songs I have listened on my life I feel lucky to have this opportunity 😂
Bruce is a very humble man and a very good person he also went abroad and I was there Thank you and your band for being kind we love you and your band xxxxxxx

Incredible to see that the 2013 London live version on the "Born to the USA tour" is far better!!! He made an awesome live performance this day!
Thanks for your story
