Awesome video Gavin, thanks for sharing & making this video, I've owned a 3500w inverter Predator generator for some time, which It has worked wonderfully, I am so stoked about Harbor Freight finally listening to me or other customers about making a remote control inverter generator, & with the dual fulling option, Harbor Freight is now seriously going to kick some ass to the competition, as long they stand faithfully by their quality products👍👍👍👍👍
They're definitely upping their "A" game. That unique ESC throttle rattle they haven't quite ironed out, but I'll overlook that one since the wheel locking mechanism is a much improved compared to their 3500 cousin. Dual fuel, remote start, tool less access for maintenance, and includes jets for proper operation for your elevation. Not bad for the price point and I can pick one up at my nearest Harbor Freight store right away. 120/240 capability would've been nice, but it'll add some complexity and cost where you might as well go with a bigger generator. :-P
Excellent video I have one predator 3500 enclosed generator and I have a open frame inverter predator. I believe it’s 4550 surge. See you in this makes me wanna get this one and sell my open frame one very nice I like how easy the maintenance is on this one way simpler than the 3500.

I just purchased a 3500 about a month ago. Still in the 90 day warranty period. Same if you bought the extended warranty. I felt cheated when I saw the 5000 introduced... . Harbor Freight has no issue returning the 3500 and upgrading to the Predator 5000. They wave the 20% restocking fee if you upgrade. The surge is better on the 5000, 1100 watt surge vs. 500 watts. I have four refrigerators to keep running in a power outage. The extra surge will be helpful.
I may be wrong, but I THINK the engine, and maybe rhe emissions system habe a 3yr warranty. I'd expect something else to fail before the engine, but still...
Thought I'd pop in here. I picked one of these up the beginning of September. Perfect size, perfect price! Well 30 days in and around 400 hours on the generator it quit working. I could not do anything to get it to run. Spoke with Harbor Freight I could get full credit for an exchange. Well, they are not currently selling the 5000, they've pulled it from their webpage and everything. It was either downsize to a smaller unit or upgrade to the 9500. Really only option I had was the upgrade. Kind of a bummer! This 9500 so far seems solid.
I only ran premium ethanol free gas with stabilizer. Changed the oil at 30 hours only ran it around 15% load for the first 30 hours. After that I changed the oil with synthetic every 45-50 hours. Seemed excessive to me based kn how the oil looked. 90% of the run hours were at around 1000 watts. Cleaned the air filter with every oil change. I did run 1 tank full of propane through it. When it died, it was surging up and down, lights were flickering. It was extremely strange. I would much rather still be running that compared to the 9500. Really hard solo to move the bigger one into my truck.
I am building a small cabin in East Tennessee which will be my primary residence I just found out the cost to run electricity to my cabin will be $22k plus I would have to cut out a lot of my mature oaks, and hickory trees so it’s a no go on the grid. I have been looking at generations that start with a remote, that has 30 AMP access, and duel fuel this looks like a winner!! I want to be able to start the until from my home.
I live 1 mile from the power lines. I have used solar/wind since 1997. Build yourself a quality battery bank and charger... a dc powered fridgr, lights and water pump and a 200 watt panel, add more solar later....
I need the 7000- 240v for my electric motocross bike, requires minimal 4000/240 running for “fast” charges. This would have been perfect at 5500 with 240. Looking for an affordable/portable generator for the track?

They make an 8750 open frame inverter. It's not quiet under load but powers our house during rare power outages. Picked it up for 1/2 the price as the 9000 with a coupon. I would have bought the 9000 but our power doesn't go off often enough to make it worth the spend. I wouldn't recommend the 8750 if your neighbors are really close by. We had a 2hr power outage couple weeks ago early in the morning and I fired up to run the house. Our neighbors sixteen-year-old daughter text her dad said "who is cutting grass at 6 am 😅!!??"
I think you forgot to mention that you have soft start installed on your RV air conditioners, which likely assisted the generator to run them. You usually mention it or maybe I missed it.
The Predator 5000 is Recalled and out of stock. If anyone bought one, check out serial number and take it back if a bad unit. Until they get this one correct, the Champion 4650 w/ dual fuel and remote start is the ticket. Just as quiet. No issues.
Gavin, Just a thought, but shouldn't these generators be labeled by the running watts and not the surge watts. Yes, it has a surge of 5K, but it does not run at that wattage. It's normal operating wattage is only 3.9K. The label of 5K is a bit deceiving. Best to read the "fine print". Great videos. Cheers.
I’d like to see this facelift applied to all their generators. The 5000 doesn’t appeal to me because I recently bought a 3500. If my 3500 was 5+ years old, I would be convincing myself of upgrading. What I’d like to see is a generator that can deliver 50 amps at 250V. I know that’s over 12,500 watts of continuous…and I know that’s going to cost $4000 if part of the quiet series.
Gavin I have a conundrum for. How do we combine two predator 5000w 120-volt generators through parallel to get 240 V. Do the commons have to be combined somehow or will the parallel kit make it happen?
predator has show its strength in the inverter generator industry........But what about Champion......the yellow generators? Within their line they have a 7000 unit that looks great and with excellent specs (model # 100719) .....I wish you can review it ...I bet its a great alternative in the 7k watts range.....I have a Champion 4000 open frame unit since 2017 and its been a horse to power the basics in our house.....3.8 gallon tank gives up to 14 hrs of power....its an oldie but it does its job......Champion is a reliable brand from my stand point

Hi Gavin, thanks for the great review! Quick question- when you connected the TT-30 outlet to a 14-50 and your 50amp RV, how does that work? Does the adapter connect the hot to both legs of the 50amp? I thought it might power only half the 2 120v legs in the RV, but that seems to be incorrect?
Great Video. Just bought one this morning. Unfortunately, the electric start is working intermittently. I would have to hit the switch 10 times before it works. The remote 'On' feature doesn't work but the 'off' feature works. I believe all this is connected to a faulty electrical board. Restocking fee of $200 This is my first time buying a predator gen after much research. This was supposed to be my replacement generator for my HONDA 3000eis. Sadly, I came to the realization that when you buy a good product like HONDA you are also buying the service, quality and support that comes with it. HONDA > Predator

Wish they make the 3500 remote start, you could parallel them for 50A at reasonable cost. I'm not sure why they stick with a 30 Amp plug. This is good for about 41 amps total so another 10 or do is wasted unless you use the 120v plugs at the same time.

Great video. Looking into this or the Westinghouse 4500 for my dual ac camper and truck bed camper. What’s your thoughts on the better choice. Only thing steering me away from this is the weight of it competed to the westing house. Westing house seems quiet and reliable for camping
Great review-thank you. Looks like a great generator. My only thought is that I don’t consider 60 decibels “super quiet.” It’s not bad, but the 2500 watt Champion is rated at 53 decibels, and the Yamaha around 51 dBA, nearly half as quiet.

Hey….I purchased a predator 5000 Saturday…..oiled it….ran it on propane for 4 hours total….it shut off 3 times….I checked oil and restarted….afterwards I shut it down for the night…..on Sunday I fired it up….let it run and 20minutes later it shutdown….I checked it over and restarted….it ran for 45 minutes and shutdown again…..this time I rolled it back and DAGG….a pool of oil about 2 ft long was underneath it….I took it back today… monday….I oiled the new one being real careful not to have any spills…I then sat it on a piece of cardboard …let it sit for 30 minutes and pushed it back and ….again…oil spots….Have You had this happen on the 5000 you tested….I haven’t even run the new one yet…..
So you haven’t seen any oil spots on yours…..okay…I’m gunna run the new one tomorrow and see what happens…..I hope it works out….the generator is nice….but leaky so far….
Hey Gavin….I have run the replacement P5000 and no leaks…..I think the factory left oil in the old one and I added more overfilling it…..that explains the leaks but doesn’t account for why it was shutting down….oh well….the replacement is running fine…..thanks for your videos…they are useful…
New engines have metal flakes in them. You have to get that out of the engine it could create excessive wear. So, by changing the oil, the engine will be protected.
How would you compare this to the GENMAX GM6000iED dual fuel generator? They seem to be the same size and weight, but with the GENMAX having more capability. Are they the same with run time and noise level? (I plan to use it with a 50A fifth wheel that has 2 A/Cs with soft starts).

Does the remote start, stop working if not used in 24 hours? This seems to be happening to mine. If I go and push start, I can remote turn off and remote start it.

Great new Predator generator, it's nice to see they are putting out these improved gens to keep up with everyone else.

So yes they missed the mark. The 3500 does almost all 110v work. Kinda dumb in my opinion that they didn’t give it that little extra- 240v.

Get another 3500 and use a 50A firman parallel kit.

You have to double click start feature for it to work or it will do that

Gavin this is a great video of an excellent generator which has all the wanted features. Do you know if you can use it with interlock and generator inlet box to power home panel? It has a floating ground whereas home panel is bonded. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Yes with the right adapter you can use it with both and you don’t have to worry about the ground in a temporary backup power outage
I be good if it will run ac unit and charge a solar generator. Split the time for more quiet time is the goal.
Harbor Freight has definately made this a lot more user friendly than the 3500

Great video as always! One question; that battery charge cable is for the one in the generator (as the westinghouse 4500) or to charge any external battery? Because didn't saw any plugs in the front. Also, I try to purchase one thru Harbor Freight, but no luck. They don't send them to Puerto Rico. Any idea who can sell and send them to PR?

The IQ3500 is an amazing generator probably one of the quietest out there but it’s missing a few things this one has, the wheel kit, dual fuel.

Unfortunately you can’t parallel at 240 V generator with 120 V the parallel ports will not match up

No I don’t do that on my generators but I’m sure that would help.
That's not going to help. The oil will just pool on top of the piston and burn off

I already have the Predator 3500 generator. Want to know can the 3500 and the 5000 be parallel to each other so l can run my 50amp camper to run the 2 ac units that don't have soft starts
Hey….I purchased a predator 5000 Saturday…..oiled it….ran it on propane for 4 hours total….it shut off 3 times….I checked oil and restarted….afterwards I shut it down for the night…..on Sunday I fired it up….let it run and 20minutes later it shutdown….I checked it over and restarted….it ran for 45 minutes and shutdown again…..this time I rolled it back and DAGG….a pool of oil about 2 ft long was underneath it….I took it back today… monday….I oiled the new one being real careful not to have any spills…I then sat it on a piece of cardboard …let it sit for 30 minutes and pushed it back and ….again…oil spots….Have You had this happen on the 5000 you tested….I haven’t even run the new one yet…..

Hey Gavin….I have run the replacement P5000 and no leaks…..I think the factory left oil in the old one and I added more overfilling it…..that explains the leaks but doesn’t account for why it was shutting down….oh well….the replacement is running fine…..thanks for your videos…they are useful…

I am new. Why did you change the oil after the first time you ran the generator? It sounds like you changed the oil a few times? I don’t understand
New engines have metal flakes in them. You have to get that out of the engine it could create excessive wear.
So, by changing the oil, the engine will be protected.

How would you compare this to the GENMAX GM6000iED dual fuel generator? They seem to be the same size and weight, but with the GENMAX having more capability. Are they the same with run time and noise level? (I plan to use it with a 50A fifth wheel that has 2 A/Cs with soft starts).

make sure your sump pump is 120V. This generator does not have 240V

I picked one up yesterday and I like the features.
I only use cheap oil now. Because it burns oil so much that it’s low after every two tanks of fuel.
Burns it so fast no need to change.

You can run almost any appliance with this inverter generator as long as it’s 120v.
Does the remote start, stop working if not used in 24 hours? This seems to be happening to mine. If I go and push start, I can remote turn off and remote start it.

If you got an adjustable stage two charger, it probably will charge it.
when you say use some lube on the air filter, what kind of lube do you use?
Put your air filter in a Ziploc bag with a cap full a some 10W-30 oil and just work the bag until the filters completely evenly soaked
