Mudlarking the River Thames - My Best Ever Mudlarking Finds so far this year (June 2021)

  • I recently had the best ever mudlarking outing on a particularly low tide on the River Thames in London. From the moment I walked down onto the foreshore I spotted a special something staring up at me through the mud! And then it just went on from there. Coins, the LONGEST pipe ever and a really curious little token which I had great fun researching.
I hope you enjoy accompanying me virtually on this special mudlarking outing!
If you are tempted to try mudlarking, then you do need a permit from the Port of London Authority. You can find out all the info on their website here:-
    www.pla.co.uk/Environment/Tha...
Thank you for watching. You can follow me on twitter and instagram at @tidelineart and my website is www.tidelineart.com
If you would like to treat me to an earl grey tea you can donate via my kofi account which is:-

All donations are gratefully accepted and put to very good use - helping me to create more videos!
    Thank you for watching everyone.
Sending you love from London to wherever you may be.

When you put him with the other 3 grumpy men faces I said "they are the Bertmann Brothers" !!! That was so sweet & darling at the end of your video of you holding that beautiful baby duck & was able to find it's mom & I absolutely loved that you named him Elvis !!! Elvis has been my favorite singer since I was a little girl around 8 years old !!! Really enjoyed your video Nicola !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙂

I once worked at a bank with a change counter and one of my duties was to tend to it by taking out full bags of coins and removing (and appropriating, because no one said I couldn’t) objects that weren’t modern American currency from a catch at the bottom. I found wonderful things in there, including an American Civil War-era two penny piece counterstamped with the name T. L. Fletcher. It’s one of the neatest things in my collection and this video reminded me that I have it!

I suppose it depends on where you look or what you find interesting. I've lived all over Canada and several parts throughout the United States and have gone digging around rivers and shorelines and have found some pretty interesting things. Coins from prior to the creation of the United States, pottery with decorative motifs that likely date to pre-European settlement, Red Jasper and Turquoise that too probably dates prior to European settlement of North America. I was also with a friend in New Mexico about a decade ago and he found Spanish sword tip that likely belonged to conquistadors from expeditions to the area by Chamuscado or Rodríguez from 1581-1582.

I so enjoy watching you mudlarking. I live in Western Colorado, we are currently enduring forest fires. Every night I go to bed smelling campfire in the middle of the suburban sprawl. Please wish for us to have some soaking rain we are in the midst of drought. Thank you so much for showing us the foreshore.

So fun to learn about the Pears soap token. Before I was married, my bathroom in my parents house was decorated in pears soap ads. I miss that bathroom.

What a morning of finds.... I do have favorites. The Pears' Soap token has an excellent story but the 1862 Exhibition pipe seduces me with the notion of World Expedition souvenirs! The River Thames was generous... but also, to a most gracious guest❤! 😊Dudley

Don’t even joke about not making anymore videos. I would be very upset as yours are the best.
Oh man, the giant pipe was awesome.
Bet you were chuffed. The bartman was exciting as well. Enjoyed your “live” last week.

I think that pulling a long pipe like that out of the mud must be a glorious experience. :-) Love the history behind the Pears Soap coin, thanks for researching it. Love the collabs, so glad you are able to get out to enjoy them.

Haven't commented in a while, but I always enjoy your posts, Nicola. How astounding that such a fragile, long pipe lasted, intact, in the foreshore mud, for centuries. So glad you liberated him from his precarious location. I had goosebumps, as you kept pulling and the pipe just kept going. FAB ! Also, your old, bearded man bottle neck. Thanks for letting us search the Thames shoreline with you. Fascinating.
