Before getting the official release I always thought "Sonic Screwdriver" was going to be her main theme but as "Thirteen" is only around 2 minutes long I thought it would be nice to extend it.

I heard a story behind the picture that is used for the album cover. Whilst filming the Ghost Monument, one of the crew thought it would be a good idea to photograph Jodie as the sun was setting, with the TARDIS in the back of shot. They took it with their phone, and the production department loved it so much, that they went with it.
Sometimes things that are spur of the moment work out better than expected.

What I love about 13 theme, it feels soothing and warm yet so full of energy.
Like 9/10 themes have surpassed its depression, and 11/12 themes have relaxed, 13s is the evolution of all those.
11 isn't relaxed.

This music is really great, it sounds very atmospheric and makes the Doctor seem like a very lonely, powerful and serene being yet always full of hope and strength. It sounds like something that belongs in space.

I just love the orange tone in this.
I must admit, this theme brings doctor who back into the future. All the synth creates a futuristic vibe that you just can’t get with an orchestra only, here’s to more of this.

at first i didn't like her but she's grown on me now it's going to be hard to watch her regenerate
Back when this *Era* series was at its beginnings, I thought this was the image for the soundtrack cover...

I was mistaken, but this image feels like we are on an alien planet: with the Purple sky *Oh My Goodness I Love The Purple* and Yellow ground it felt so different and Unique!!!
I like this extended version a lot. There are more layers, and change ups. It makes an already beautiful song even more interesting.
It is indeed beautiful, but there still isn't enough melody. It's just boring ambience. I like ambience, but Akinola is constantly teases a melody and when there actually is melody it suddenly stops and gets replaced by more ambience. I miss Murray Gold.
Those notes at 5:48 send a tingle down my spine every time I hear them.

Vast, ample, extensive and yet it cannot fill the available space as it is also so....airy.

Due to the poor writing, her character is shit. She's supposed to be the Doctor, not a quirky space engineer. Jodie Whittaker herself is an amazing actress, I'm sure under a better script she can shine (which she does in one or two episodes).

The Doctor is finally happy. She's free of the Time War, she's finally been allowed to move past River, she knows who the Doctor is, she knows she's just an idiot with a box and a screwdriver. Even seems to have come to terms with the continuous flow of companions.
It's like she can finally look back on her companions and smile about them finally. Rose, Dona, Amy, Rory, Claire, Billy... All of them... And River. So glad we get to see the Doctor evolve and change as a character.

@@jimi4985 Ah, I see. Lots of little ways. Probably the one that sticks in my mind most is how much more open she was about having had a family, to people she'd just met. Her previous four incarnations were very tight-lipped and cagey about that. The Tenth Doctor only barely divulged the information to Rose and Donna, his closest companions. Eleventh and Twelfth never directly told anyone, even Clara.
Thirteenth, on the other hand, is open about them, where they've gone, and rather than brood over it, she offers a more optimistic, positive view of her past that focuses more on the good than the bad.
@@jimi4985 He ran into himself as a young man about to go through his first regeneration and realized that if he did it once and moved on, he could do it again and move on.
He could see the good parts over the bad ones again.

This by far is my favorite doctor who theme, and I can't help but think of rose when I hear the woman humming, this is such a beautiful score.
I know this isn't the official title theme, it's the 13th Sonic Screwdriver score, I'm just saying it's a beautiful score, chill. I don't want to argue, I was just voicing an opinion.

It really reminds the listener of Bad Wolf, doesn't it? It's the first time since then that we've heard single female vocalist for the theme rather than a choir. I don't know if it's intentional, but it's a nice little homage, isn't it?
I mean, its a very pretty piece of music don't get me wrong, but better than the hundreds of stunning tracks from murray gold "by far"? I wouldn't go that far...

This music is like a sunrise, good job Mister Akanola, I was afraid when I heard Murray gold was leaving, but I'm not scared anymore because you did a great job on season 11th.

People say that they hate the 13rth doctor because "She does not act like the doctor." Even though the doctor always changes personalities, behaviours and how he talks. So it does not really matter if "Hey, they should act like this." When they should know what makes the Doctor "The Doctor", is that they change all the time and they act on each problem their own unique way.
The brilliant thing about the Doctor, isn't how they ACT, it's what they DO. Every Doctor has handled situations differently and companions differently. But every Doctor has done what the Doctor does, without fail.
This makes me think time travel is real
I can sense a bit of 9th Theme in here.
And 10th, and 11th, and 12th, with a bit of happy and epic and D&D. I love it, it's gourgeous and underrated! The series might not have been the best we've ever seen, but boy this theme is a romantic declaration of love to the show!

13 definitely had moving on vibes. We’ve gone past the confinement of 12 regenerations. It’s in the modern era, first woman and first Doctor of peace it feels like.
I really like this theme cause it actually feels as if it belongs in space. Don’t get me wrong, the Murray Gold’s scores were absolutely gorgeous, but they were big and orchestral but didn’t shout space all the time. But this mixes in orchestral greatness-something Murray Gold was very good at-with space. This music could totally play in Tomorrowland at the Disney Parks and it would totally fit. I can imagine hearing this at something g like Space Mountain and think, “this fits really well.” Jodie Whitaker has been a favorite of mine and the music for season 11 has only boosted that.
Akinola's music is pretty okay, but it can only described as a shy kid who gets embarrassed when it has the courage to have actual melody. Gold's music actually had melody and not ambient white noise. Akinola's music isn't bad, but it's just boring.
Gold's songs were never meant to sound like space, they were meant to describe the characters' emotions and their actions
Gold was building a world of deep characters and plentiful threats, but still lots of fun and whimsy.
I feel like this could work equally in space or under water
The theme sounds very different to the past themes, it feels less restrained and trying to be heroic. Dedicated more to the adventure than the adventurer.

this piece is really good. subtle but still powerful. honestly, the new doctor is really good, but just hope that they make the story line better - like much better.
Izza Khalid these new stories have really good turns that I like. More subtlety. And the Doctor says something amazing. like the anti matter drive that moves other forms of life across the universe. Other forms of life.
Anyone else think of Stargazing Live when they first heard this? Love Dr Who and yeah I am going to say it the 13th doc is stunningly gorgeous. There I said it, shoot me if you want. Doctor Who forever!

I loved series 12, but I feel like we've never really had 13's theme be super prominent yet.
Its a nice touch to see such a wonderful and powerful piece of music extended to bring out the life In It
This theme seems to be both somber yet focused. It doesn't shy away from the darkness, but embraces it, uses it to push forwards. It's a very sober passion...
Don't know why but I keep thinking this is the Springwatch theme in disguise
The music of this era is perfect. Say what you like about everything else, the incidental music fits and, to me, brings back a lot that I miss from the classic era: Evocative moods. Paces and basses inverted. Edit: Yes I like this Incarnation, whether you like it or not.

This... makes me think of No Man's Sky. Don't think of that as an insult! This is probably the first time the theme really nails the whole "Exploration in time and space!" thing really well, which, I guess is why I immediately thought of No Man's Sky.
Wolfkid9963 Mostly because the Murray Gold themes were all about the character himself, not his activities. This feels spacey, but Murray’s themes were about the Doctor, his emotions, his struggles, his joy, his sorrow.

@@MegaAstroFan18 Depends on the viewpoint. For many people it was outright bad, for others, it was pretty good, for some it was just mediocre. I don't really have an opinion, for me, it was mostly okay-ish, with weak parts and stronger parts. But I seem to notice, that the "it was soooo bad" is in the majority of people's opinions. That's why I wrote it like that: "might be bad or anything", which translated means: "each to their own".

Season 11 was amazing. Each episode stood on its own, more character development that made the overarching theme into a more substantial and natural backdrop, each episode was simple and to the point, but still with enough twists to not be boring. Some episodes were noticeably more intense than previous ones of the same nature (Resolution was particularly powerful, far more than any Moffat Dalek episode), writing was consistently good, we had the Doctor helping a child, so that theme kept alive. It might have been better to have some returning villain to give people a little hook, but being all original is just as valid (the original series used original villains all the time). Some noticeably creepier angles, like the Morax and those Kerblam Men (I don't care what anyone says, you see a grinning freak like that with glowing eyes approach you in a dark warehouse, you run the other way as fast as you can). Even almost had an old historical-only episode, two really (Rosa and Demons of the Punjab).
Just a really great season, refreshing after years of convoluted bullshit and just really feeling like a good next step from the Twelfth Doctor's last words and final commitment.

Finally someone who loved the recent season as much as I did. I love the fact that the BBC had the guts to cast a woman as the Doctor & go back to basics to make more the show more appealing to a wider audience. I love Jodie Whittaker & look forward to next season. I hope you are too.
Disagree with your remarks about the 'convoluted bullshit' in previous series - they were written amazingly to me BUT I agree it was a breath of fresh air. Jodie was amazing, the Tardis team were decent and I think the stories all had great qualities. Can't wait for S12.
I would not say Series 11 were bad. New writer, New composer, so they are experimenting. I really enjoyed new Tardis, new Doctor. But new companions... I didn't like Ryan because he was less interesting than Graham and Yas. I didn't like episodes about history because aliens didn't interrupt them so much. I mostly liked Arachnids in UK because it was pretty scary (and how the Doctor thought about this buisnessman), Kerblam because it was a usual Doctor Who episode, The Resolution because it was scary and a good reference to Robert HeinLein's "The puppet masters". Fair enough, non of the episodes were this bad, but the final was actually strange and the main theme of series was not so... horrifying like Clara's mystery, RIver Song or The Heavens of Missy, or Bill Pots. But i don't think Peter Capaldi's series were as bad as you think, they have their philosophy and you can except it or not, i just skipped boring to me episodes.

I love this - the music for the 13th Doctor's era was great. Amd 13 was a great Doctor (as a side note I also loved that they filmed that series in actual locations - Sheffield and Liverpool where actually those locations, rather then Cardiff or London made to look like those areas!) 😀

Thirteenth is my favourite Doctor and Series 11 is the best series. Akinola seriously compliments Chibnall's writing and Whittaker's acting in series 11.

So, series 11 and 12 may not be up to the standards of the other series in general but I'm glad they exist just for this piece of music. Segun Akinola may not have written many stand out tracks for the show but this one is stunning

Maybe the odd episode here and there in series 12 was better than some stories from series 9 and 10 at their worst but capaldi is so astronomically better than wittiaker in the role that the new series still just doesn't reach the same level, even when it's good.

This kinda reflects how I feel about season 11/12: vacuous and uninteresting.
Why do you feel like that? The doctor is free of the time war. This is how she really is and you apparently liked it when she was being controlled and not being who she truly is and not being able to express herself. Quite a rude comment you wrote if I do say so myself.

@@canweget50subswithnovids12 Firstly, it's just an opinion. Secondly, my issue isn't with the Doctor, it's the show in general. It feels super generic and dull, as well as the companions being completely lacking of any personality whatsoever and the fact they are more like blank slates for the Doctor to spout exposition at. In the past, all the companions had a clear and prominent personality and narrative role, Donna was fiery/funny one, Rory was a lovable goof, Clara was the know it all etc. Graeham spouts some half arsed dad jokes, Yaz is just a generic plot device and I couldn't tell you anything about Ryan as he has no clear character traits whatsoever.
Just in general, I feel like the show has lost it's fun, camp, style. Even the cinematography seems like it's trying to be super serious and sleek when to me, at it's core, it never took itself all that seriously.
