      Wanted to thank you, I picked up a Grand Power p1, very happy with it, also emailed the distributor, they do not import the decocker model 😒

    I LIKE THE STEYR, so this Caracal, would be a nice addition for me.

    I went to their booth several years ago at NRA Dallas and really liked the design. At the time I had just purchased a Steyr full sized and learned from their booth who designed it. I really thought the fast sight system worked with my eyes and target acquisition time improved considerably.

    Thanks for bringing us something new. Once you have migrated to red dots it's difficult to go back to irons. Not that I can not shoot a pistol with irons well, but my accuracy and speed is much better with optics. I have to say that paying 35 dollars for the mag and then another 35 dollars for shipping it is a bummer. I'll wait to see how it shoots in the range review.

  • @Skaramine
    @Skaramine 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Oh, they have the front end rear sights like the original. It's a neat "guttersnipe" that reminds me of the old ASP 39.

    On the Caracal magazines.. If you disassemble the mag and drill two holes side by side to remove the dimple and file or dremel, you should be able to fully load them.

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      That's my plan.

    • @tdlewis103
      @tdlewis103 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have found that it was cleaner to take my file to the inside of mag from the bottom of the mag. It makes for a very clean hole once the dimple is cleared out

    You gotta eat the forbidden fruit and see what the striker assembly/internal extractor insert is all about. I remember on one of the Bubits designs you said the warranty was void if you removed the striker assembly. It can’t be anything too crazy. Prob just has to be seated 100% correctly before tapping roll pins back into place.

    Looking forward to the field video. Curious how those sights practically function.

  • @JD-tn5lz

    Good video.
    The Caracal is an interesting but not appealing firearm. Which places it several steps ahead of other polymer framed striker-fired 9mm handguns.
    I wouldn't sweat the sight arrangement, that's one of the best features of this. I expect it's very quick to acquire and perfectly fine out to twenty-five yards, individual level depending.

    Quite interested in this gun, mainly for the sight system. Last year I made a 'mono-sight' similar in concept to this and have found it works very well out to 20 yards (the furthest I have shot it.) I have learned a lot from your videos and some of your practices will inform my own reviews going forward. Thanks for your channel and great content!

  • @FernandoChaves
    @FernandoChaves 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I am guessing it is not the hole in the magazine that engages the magazine release but rather it is the little tab sticking out. This is the "Bubits hook", a patented Bubits feature as found on the BB6 and Kimber R7 Mako.

    That quick sight system is very interesting. Wouldn't mind trying it out. I don't really care for the ten round magazine though. Seems like the manufacturer would start making the mags to accept eighteen rounds.

  • @1nfamyX
    @1nfamyX 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I like it, would appreciate a bit more geometry on the slide to provide more than just friction when charging it. Ik you showed the hook though.

  • @FernandoChaves
    @FernandoChaves 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great video! Thank you! I have been waiting for these. How can we call it a fully supported chamber with that bevel? Does that not leave a 360 degree gap all around the base of the round? That is the thickest part of the case, so probably OK. But still, is it truly fully supported? When will we say it is not? Is it only the feed ramp cut that counts? I am curious.

    • @GBGuns

      Maybe because racking has become more popular anyways, or because lefties can still run a slide lever if they need to.

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good thinking. The cut is very similar, but BB6 magazines are too short as they're meant for a 15-round body.

    Is there an optics ready option? Not having optics capability in 2024 is falling behind the curve; Those sights remind me of guttersnipe sights, Steyr did something like that with their handguns. Fast acquisition but that short sight radius is a no-go for me unless you put an optic behind it.
    I guess I'll have to wait for the shooting portion to form a better opinion.

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Not every handgun manufacturer is concerned with being trendy.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm an LE instructor and constant student.
      IF you're a competent handgunner, which most consider themselves but aren't, and it's been proven again and again and again you really don't need the rear sights inside twelve yards.
      I have also used a modified training pistol (.22 pistol with rear sights removed) to assist those students who simply won't believe they're weakside eye dominant. They do fine with it, most quickly do well with it past twenty.
      Pistol red dots? Give up the Kool-Aid, they do have benefits but if you actually work in the business you find out quickly that it is One More Piece of gear to worry about...for some their benefits don't outweigh their drawbacks.

    • @SuspiciousGanymede
      @SuspiciousGanymede 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JD-tn5lz i shoot competition iron sight handgun out to 100yds, my accuracy requirements are more than most and I see a direct benefit from an optic equipped handgun.
      A relative of mine that is LE had their entire department issued red dot equipped handguns, qual scores went up all around at least 15%.
      I'm not saying you need one, but all major manufacturers of firearms offer optic cutouts in addition to rear sights. PSA has the same sight radius setup in addition to optics ready. Even if you never remove the slide plate, the cost to mill, drill and tap a slide is negligible.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm an LE instructor. Most of those anecdotal stories of dramatic range score improvements are grossly overblown.
      One, every single time a department invests in transition training, scores go up...mostly it's because for most departments it's the only real firearms trainings that the normal "beat" cops get after the academy. It happens every single time whether it's a new optic, a new sidearm, a new rifle optic, new shotgun ammunition, etc. Every single time. Go to any decent class and your scores better improve.
      Two, LE quals are pretty lame. There's lots of holster work (good) but little transition or movement. It's very static and not realistic, I'm not aware of any department in my state that pushes past twenty-five slow fire or have an actual dynamic qual. It's a measure of bare competency, little else.
      Pistol red dots do have a place, especially in the competition and pistol hunting worlds. However...for 99% of handgunners they are placebo...then again, if the gear helps your confidence (rightfully or wrongly) it usually helps your performance.
      I'd put little stock in what a police administrator chooses or how they arrive at decisions as for efficacy. Most have disturbingly different priorities than what good LEOs have. @@SuspiciousGanymede

    The gutter sight makes no sense to me ..if anyone's been to a long shooting course or the Police academy they teach front sight only point shoot in cqb witch is literally the same idea I'm sure it works but its nothing that training can do is all ..just makes me wonder why is all ..guess forces you to shit the correct way just after 25-50 yards you will work way harder ? I get most all shits should be closer also ..

    1:55 I'm anti-America and like guns alot. They are useful tools. I don't think a constitution or state should be what dictates what I can and can't have to defend myself. To equate guns and America so heavily shows what little value the country stands for given it's lack of other personalities advocating for it.
