Today, I'm taking zinnia cuttings for zinnia propagation.

Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. I am an older gardener and I want to share a lesson I learned this year. I spent over $20 on special zinnia seed and proceeded to spread the seed on two year old pine straw and then a fine dusting of peat moss and vermiculite. No flowers. Seems that pine straw has tannin or some sort of acid that seeds don't like.

They like pine bark near my rose bushes the best. I live in south FL.
Hi when the flowers are dry collect them and save them for next year does are the seeds ,no need to buy new seeds, happy planting !!!!!!!

I had two Zinnias that both grew multiple flowers outside my garden box that had a cemented border wall and my cemented driveway; so basically in between a crack. They grew strong, tall and very showy! Last night, a storm knocked them over and I am heartbroken it’s mid-August in South Carolina so I don’t think I can propagate them.
Very nice. I take my cuttings I’m going to propagate and dip them in either a rooting hormone or Mycorrhizae and then stick them in Rapid Rooter plugs and they grow a super strong root system and much faster than just water or plain soil. When I start them from seed I put the seeds in plugs too. It’s been so hot in south Florida that they seem to grow so fast I can’t keep up with them. Thanks for these great informative videos you do.

Oh perfect! The chipmunks chewed my zinnias down at the base. I’ve had the entire plant minus the roots sitting in water for the last 4 days. It seems to be living just fine in a 2 liter bottle, but I will try to take cuttings and grow some roots!

I got some zinderella peach zinnia seeds and the pack didn’t really have a whole lot. I will start them inside and try to propagate them to get more! These are beautiful. I grew one recently and it’s been blooming for a while, I love it. I grew it indoors with a bunch of other plants. Lots of coleus.
But I have a question.
What makes a zinnia grow into a big ball full of petals versus the other type where it’s all yellow in the middle and not as many petals?
And two, there is a second smaller bud nearly blossoming much lower now. Is it possible to take a cutting of that second arm w the bud or take a cutting some other way?
Ooh I'll have to try snipping the leaves for my next zinnia propagation!! Thanks for the tips!! Now I just have to figure out how to organically deal with these pesky lace bugs that have been sucking my zinnia leaves dry 😭!!

Thank you. How long will it take for blooms to appear? I’ve had such trouble starting from seeds, most have failed. So the few that are growing (no flowers yet) I may use this method to get mor zinnias. Really appreciate this video!

Will this work ok trailing zinnias? I bought a really pretty Profusion Cherry Bicolor Zinnia. please look it up on google.. OMG it is blooming non stop since spring and very disease resistant. I have them on my metal tricycles. I really would love to propagate more for next year.

Do you have general advice on growing zinnias? Mine have crispy leaves yet there is also new growth. They are zahara zinnia. I live in zone 8a and it's blazing hot but I water mine daily if the soil is dry. I can't find anything online about zinnia problems except root rot.
Browning leaves can also be caused by damage done by Japanese beetles or leafhoppers. Have you seen either?
@@TONYAwiththeflowers I haven't seen any pests around these flowers but I'll keep an eye out for them. It's happening to all of my zinnias which are in containers scattered around my yard.
Hey, have you grown any filler like eucalyptus or frosted light (I think that’s what it’s called)?
I tried growing some eucalyptus this season, and it was a complete failure. 🌱🌱🌱

Hi, I've read elsewhere that you're supposed to cut right above a leave node instead of right below. What is the difference?
Also- should we pinch back a single zinnia plant more than one time before it blooms? Or just one initial time?
I successfully rooted zinnia cuttings without the leaf node method. Same with my Cosmos cuttings. I see no difference.
Cut just below node as that is where the roots will form. The more you pinch back the bushier the plant becomes, I pinch back once so the plant will still grow tall.

Like straight into the garden soil? If so, that was definitely the problem. Soilless potting mix is best for rooting cuttings. Also, zinnia cuttings in water may be best if the weather is really hot where you are. Good luck! 🌱🌱🌱

Mine too. Fortunately, we'll only have to deal with the beetles for a few more weeks. 🌱🌱🌱
