    please PLEASE remember to take your time and do not rush into transitioning. i would never want anyone else to have to experience something like this. the transitioning and detransitioning rate has been on the rise lately. transitioning has very permanent and serious affects on you so just please be aware of how serious transitioning really is. not to make this into a serious rant but you have so much time, take your time and you will discover who you are.

      It WAS destroying her body in the sense that she took medication for something she didn't have, in the same way that if you take an antidepressant when you don't need it, you might get seratonin disorder. This article should've been more of a nuanced position of making sure you're ACTUALLY trans before you transition because it is permanent and not everyone is or will be transgender even if they want to be, instead of saying it doesn't work and it won't work for anyone and it's "mutilation"... if you're not trans and you transition, YOU WILL GET DYSPHORIA. YOU CANNOT JUST SAY YOU'RE TRANS AND YOU'LL MAGICALLY BE TRANSGENDER. In my opinion this is the result of people saying that you don't need dysphoria to be trans, non trans people transitioning, and then the dysphoria they gain leaving them extremely mad at the trans people who told them that they didn't need dysphoria.

      There can be some middle ground. Instead of believing the world should cater and center around you only, make efforts to bring others in.
      Of course you should be true to oneself but always keeping others feelings a priority. Give understanding of others as a marker in life.
      If everyone is about their self this will become a lonely world.

      Coming out as gay is also a lot cheaper than letting that internalized homophobia lead you to believe that being attracted to the same sex means you're the opposite sex.

      @Matt H. you really have to educate yourself. Transition is the actual help for gender dysphoria. Or would you rather people invent drugs (when you already assume people are drugged when they are not lol) that block your personality, your true self? Don't you think that would be worse? Would that be your ideal treatment for people with a disorder you can't grasp how it feels like because you don'T have it? Or do you have actual ideas how to solve Gender Dysphoria without suppressing a persons individuality and mind?

      @Simon W. your appetite probably increased with your happiness maybe? not that they're the same, but that's why a lot of anti-depressants result in weight gain, because depression suppresses your appetite.
      it can work the other way around though, like if someone used food and/or binges often to cope with their depression, feeling happier means they dont need to run to food as often, so they lose weight.

    • @ashleyk8406
      @ashleyk8406 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Nyctophile I use food to cope sometimes and I still gain weight on antidepressants ugh, so it’s not all black and white. Actually it’s almost _worse_ when I’m happy in a weird way because I’m not always worrying about what I eat or how I look to other people. Now that might sound good but its effects aren’t. But yeah that is true for a lot of people.

    • @nyct0phile
      @nyct0phile 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      @@ashleyk8406 i definitely agree with you, nothing in life is ever black/white.
      your metabolism might be out of balance due to going back and forth between not really eating and eating, which might be causing your weight gain. when your body doesnt get enough food your metablism slows to compensate, so that when you do eat, it will digest slower to conserve and absorb more energy.
      when you start eating "normally" again, its going to take a while for your metabolism to return to its normal levels, so you're going to experience pretty rapid weight gain for a bit. if you continue eating well though, itll go back to normal and tht weight will come off naturally.

      @@ilikedarknes3351 Social transition is such an important step! For me personally, I approached it bit by bit, taking notes as I went as that was how I processed it best. I asked my sister and friends to try using they/them pronouns for me. Then a different name. Bought a binder and switched up my gender presentation. Gave my new name when ordering coffee and started introducing myself as it when meeting new people. Figured out what I liked and didn't. Talked to other people in the trans/nonbinary community. Only after I had done all this, and was as sure as I felt I could be in my nonbinary identity did I consider what parts of physical transitioning I wanted. Coming to terms with yourself can be such an emotionally stressful time, and it's best to be logical and calm when it comes to stuff that's gonna last a lifetime.

    I see nothing wrong with detransitioners speaking out. It simply wasn't the right choice for THEM. And I think that therapists / doctors should be more vigilant in making sure people who come out as trans really are trans.
    I also worry about detransitioners being used as a way to discredit / delegitimize people who truly are transgender. And I don't think it's right for detransitioners to assume that what worked (or didn't work) for them will work for everyone else.

If you tell them you have dysphoria, that youve always felt this way and you believe 10000% that you are male, theyre going to diagnose you with gender dysphoria and allow you to be on T. Its not the therapists fault that you neglected to tell them you were a confused lesbian who for some reason thought if they were trans that life would get better.

    Story: when I was 16 I was struggling with my gender identity and I wanted to identify as nonbinary with they/them pronouns but everyone around me told me that it wasn't real and to just identify as a trans male, so I did that and I physically represented myself as male and went by he/him pronouns for 2 years. My mother was extremely transphobic and told me a lot of detrimental and invalidating things that made me want to transition more. I was put into foster care when I was 17 and started testosterone from there. In my case I rushed this and went with the first therapist I could find and was given testosterone within 2-3 weeks (hastey ik) I stayed on hormones until I was 18 and realized that I still felt off. Now that I was in a more accepting demographic (I moved to LA from Orange County) I stopped my testosterone "cold turkey" and had the last meeting with my hormone therapist before transferring.
    In short: I felt nothing from the cut of testosterone besides some mood swings, I have a slightly deeper voice but I actually like this one way more anyways, and I'm turning 22 in February of 2021 and still strongly identify as nonbinary. I'm glad to have the toxic transphobes out of my life, and personally I don't regret attempting to transition one bit.

    When I was in second grade, I found out I was attracted to females as well as males. When I was in seventh grade, I discovered the term bisexual, and identified with that, then pansexual a week later. In eighth grade, musical.ly was big and Justing Blake was my favorite muser. He is trans. I thought that's the life I wanted for myself because of my internalized misogyny, and my cousin went through the exact same thing with me. We both cut our hair super short and decided to identify as gender fluid at school. I told my mom and she said it wasn't me. I was so angry because I thought it was awful for her to tell me who I was. But the more my cousin and I thought on it, the more we realized we are just 14 year old girls who were taught by our stepfathers that men are superior to women, and that made us envious.
    I will always do everything I can to support the trans community, and I am so thankful to my cousin, and trans friends, who helped me actually think things through.

I've seen multiple de-trans stories already and a lot of them involve the idea of becoming a more attractive version of yourself or becoming someone new. Trans people don't become something else, they become themselves, so running away from who you are bc you don't like yourself is not a reason to "become" trans. And low self-steem is not dysphoria. Fun story. When I was younger I felt just like her. I always was more into "boys" stuff and even pretended to be a boy, I'd hide my hair, kinda sticking them in my t-shirt and even pack, putting something as if a had a dick. I started doing that when I was about 5. Also I always knew I liked girls but when I was thinking about it I'd rather think that I was male (probably because I didn't even know what being a lesbian was).
    So when I was 15 I found out about trans people and felt like I related to it. I researched a lot and hoped to get on hormones one day. But time passed by and started to realize that actually I want to love girls while being a girl myself so I understood that I'm not trans. It was homophobia, making me believe I was a trans man.

      You know what's funny? I'm the exactly opposite. I used to love "girly" things, I also never cared about boys or girls. Dating never interested me, idk know why. So I just assumed I was a cis het girl.
      When I was a kid I loved art and music, playing pretend, horses, pink and dressing up. All the typical little girl things.
      But then puberty hit and dysphoria started and I stopped doing those things.

    From my research, exogenous T can raise your cholesterol, thicken your blood (polycythemia -- basically too many RBCs), and it can tip the balance into (pre)diabetes if you are predisposed to it (or if you gain 50 pounds, like she did). Of course, you gain the muscle mass and perhaps fat too. It also sounds like she did have shitty doctors, but it sounds like she was not taking care of herself, working out, etc. The thick, puffy, discolored skin? What's up with that?
    Meh. She wasn't trans. It does seem like there are easier ways to deal with being gay and having internalized homophobia. You can go to therapy. You can stay in the closet. Not recommended, but it's a lot simpler than transitioning.

Some people don't realize this and don't take the time to really think things through because they expect someone else to stop them if it's a bad choice.
