This woman is a singular example of what a true hero looks like, and how a true hero acts. This event occurred in my lifetime. As a 61 year old, white, hetero man raised solid middle class by an Army captain dad and a stay-at-home mom, I hold Ms. Parks in high esteem.

@@Patrick-y4d1z What kind of a person are you to write such gibberish in the 21st century? Ms. Rosa Parks had the dignity and courage to stand up to a system and laws that were incredibly wrong on every level. Despite your nasty retort, you do not even have the courage to display your name and cowardly hide behind 'user-ds8rj2vc4v'.

This happened in the year I was born (in the UK). I didn't hear about it until I was in the early part of my secondary school. It made such an impression on me (I remember it well because even at the age of 13, I was already "fighting" apartheid - every little helps, as they say), and she became one of my lifelong heroes.
I'm glad you're showing this. Awesome people like this need their stories told to influence the next generation of activists against whatever is wrong with the world at that time.

1:10 This is the story I was told as a teen-ager, but what I learned later is she did it as part of an organized strategy to get arrested so there would be a court case and publicity. At the time of the arrest, Parks was Secretary of the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP. She had recently attended the Highlander Folk School, a Tennessee center for training activists for workers' rights and racial equality. This was omitted from the interview.

You all should read the story of Viola Desmond. A Black Canadian Business Woman. Who in 1946 nearly nine years before Rosa Parks, was actively forced from a whites only section of a movie theater in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Dragged by a Police Officer up the isles, Ms. Desmond who was injured, was escorted to jail and charged with defrauding the Nova Scotia Government of one cent in income tax. It took until the year 2010. Before the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Mayann Francis pardoned Ms. Desmond nearly 64 years after her charge. Her lawyer a white man, fought valiantly for her defense, without payment

Well done Rosa! On one day I used the word 'violated' outside of a GP surgery where I'd been unable to obtain an appointment with the Manager. I believed my patient rights had been violated. The Manager thought others in the street might think an act of 'rape' was being implied because the word 'violated' can sometimes mean rape. The Police were called by Surgery. During a court appearance I agreed I had written 'violated' and meant violation of rights. The Judge cruelly decided after hearing the evidence that I 'had hoped to imply an act of sexual rape'. I left Court quickly to vomit. At the end of the day I had been found guilty of harassing the Manager.
I took a dictionary into Court but the Judge stated before giving judgement he was 'putting aside the use of a dictionary'. This short clip shows how Rosa Parks stood up for the rights of black people and she used the word violated! Thank you Rosa! ❤️
