    Darn those liberals with their women's rights, their acceptance of LGBT and their positive attitudes! What next?! Kindness and compassion?! Not on my watch! Not today Satan, not today.

    • @EstyVids
      @EstyVids 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +RavensSarora But that's the point isn't it. They're liberals and are in no way reflective of their churches or their texts. They may as well not even mention their religions since they're not preaching them. If you have to ignore 3/4 of your text just so you can have a nice view of other people maybe you should ignore the remaining 1/4 too.

    • @thenotsotalented1
      @thenotsotalented1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +EstyVids the same could be said about those who ignore parts of their text in order to justify violence. On a day to day basis we see the the more "distasteful" side of these religions. whats wrong with a video showcasing a more civil side. nearly every religion is split, and I personally see nothing wrong with using the "good" aspects of a religion to preach compassion.

    • @EstyVids
      @EstyVids 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lietus Firstly, I think there are significantly more "distasteful" elements in all of these texts than there is "good". Secondly, I simply don't see why religion is necessary to teach the good. Perhaps contrary to popular belief, religion doesn't teach you 'right from wrong' as it were. If it did, how would you know which aspects were "good" and which were "distasteful"? Clearly that knowledge can't come from the religion itself as that would be paradoxical.
      Instead that judgement is made using the values that society has developed in the centuries since those texts were written. Given that, my question is simple - why not just teach these and skip the middle-man who also occasionally spouts racist, homophobic, misogynistic and divisive nonsense?

    Surely homosexuality act is haram but that doesnt mean people should be mean to them. Islam does not promote hatred. The people does. People tend to take the easiest way to settle everything by violence. The problem will still persist if we do it that way.

    This video should be titled "a liberal progressive priest, rabbi, and imam talk about things and agree." This was not a hard-hitting video, and was simply trying to move society into an area where religions can coexist peacefully, and no one will be intolerant of one another. Ethical relativism at its finest.

    People are mad that these are very liberal religious people, however I think that this is the point of the video. It shows that not every religious person is an extremist and provides a vote for the level-headed, loving Christians, Jews and Muslims that seem to lose their voice among all the hatred caused by religious extremists.

      +Stromae is beautiful I'm a Muslim working on getting my certificate in Islam and what the Imam says is true. The verses he's using are good examples. And he's right when he said that a lot of things are created or made is because of culture reasons and invasions of other tribes and groups. I bet you that non of the religions are the same as they were 500 years ago.

    I didn't have much expectations when I clicked on this video but I am so incredibly pleasantly surprised. Thank you to all 3 of them for being so logical and understanding that not everyone is the same. Not everyone will agree and 99% of the comments below and above are busy bashing the video and each other but I thoroughly enjoyed watching people of faith coexist and not try to shove their religion down each others throats. Buzzfeed, we need more of these.

    The imam was 100% correct when he said that the Quran is feminist. What people fail to understand is that the Quran tells people to respect their mother 3 times more than your father. Islamic women get to keep any money that they earn. It is their money. They also have the right to marry and divorce as they please. People get misinformed about how Islam treats women because of the CULTURE of certain countries. Not the RELIGION.

    As an Atheist/Humanist, I love this video. This is how I see religion could and should be in the world.
    My favourite quote is from a Christian teacher of Philosophy I used to know: "All religion is simply different ways of celebrating the divine." That focus on acceptance and understanding proves religions can easily and happily coexist.
    Nobody has to convert anyone. If someone has questions, by all means answer them, but don't preach to those who do not wish to hear. That is their choice.
    Which also applies to Atheist or more so Antitheist beliefs - allow people to have religion. These wise and kind leaders show us that they stand in favour of compassion and understanding. Support more people to be like that.

    I love this video. I completely understand why people say that it is not entirely a realistic depiction of a priest, rabbi and imam because many may view these issues differently (we can see that everyday). However, this video and these people do show that it is entirely possible to teach a religious path and be deeply und religious, have great faith while being open-minded. Most religious writings have to be interpreted in a certain historical context as well. There are lots of passages in the bible, tora and koran that have eternal, timeless meaning, value and message but there are some statements and rules where we most not forget that all of them have been written down not by god but by faulty human beings in a certain social context a very long time ago. It makes very little sense to equal rules like loving thy neighbour or loving god and statements that a clearly specific to the time they were down in. The people in this video show understanding of that difference and I do think that this will be necessary for a peaceful existence of multiple religions/religious beliefs in the future

  • @Lemons19902010

    As an ex-Muslim and current Christian, I feel like the priest and imam really fell short in this video. They did not represent their faiths well. You can't be a Christian and be pro-choice at the same time. You can't say that Islam supports women's rights, but follow a prophet that married a child and supports domestic violence. I really take issue with how the priest answered the question, "Is your religion the only way?". He did not want to affirm that yes, Christianity IS the only way (to Heaven). Jesus says in John 14:6 that He is "the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me". This priest is a lukewarm Christian, afraid to stand up for his beliefs because he doesn't want to make waves. The imam clearly glossed over how Islam oppresses Muslim women and encourages violence against "infidels" unless they convert to Islam.

    A homosexual couple that lives a righteous life, loves their neighbor, benefits their community, provides a good life for any children they may adopt is in communion with God. Righteousness is not about self deprivation and denying the pleasures of life. Righteousness is shown in your actions, in helping those in need, in volunteering your time to help better your community, in providing counsel, support, and aid to those under oppression, including LGBT folks, people of different races, and people of different religions. All of you spewing hate in the comments should know that the path to God/ Yahweh/ Allah is not through isolating and opressing and destroying people who are different to you but the path to God above is through accepting them, treating them as you expect to be treated, and standing up for them when they cannot stand up for themselves. For the Christians who might read this, remeber that Christ is amongst those who are least fortunate, those who are opressed, those who are imprisoned, those who suffer oppression and violence simple for being who God made them to be in his infinite wisdom. I ask of you what will you say when Christ asks you why you abandoned him in his time of need? Why you took part in shaming him for who he was? Why you were silent when he asked to be treated equally in daily life and in marriage? Rather than quote holy texts and try to rationalize your hatred, go out and help those in need, check up on your elderly neighbors, shovel the sidewalk so people dont slip, open your arms and your heart to the lgbt people that are in your life. You got a limited amount of time on this earth to to show God you truly do believe in his word, you truly love your neighbor, you truly do desire to seek him out even if it means accepting people who are different from you.

Although he's a religious leader who knows more about Islam than most of us, and he quotes from a specific verse in the Quran to back up his point, his answers are not representative of Islam, but are his opinion. Some of the comments are missing a few key points:
    Christians: Almost all of your comments are saying that homosexuality is wrong, and that women should have no power. Did you know that the Bible also says that God loves everyone, and that God forgives sin. So by saying that you are denying your God's word. There are also so many books missing from the Bible. Your religion is not the only way. Oh and by the way, I am a Christian.
    Jews: You are all complaining about her knees showing, and her natural hair. Did you know that people have their own lives? Also I see a lot of comments about a girl Rabbi. This goes back to the whole women's rights. Everyone should be equal, we're all human.
    Muslims: I see all of you saying that this is wrong, that religion should be separated, and that there's only one way. Please rethink everything your religion stands for.
    EVERYONE: "They're all so liberal!" HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY KNOW? Do you know them personally, do you know they're life. Are you perhaps their next door neighbor? A stalker? Just because someone believes a certain way does not mean they are a liberal, it doesn't mean they're anything but human and opinionated.
    I'm not saying that all of the comments from these religions are like this, I'm saying its the majority. And come on guys, think about how much 7 BILLION humans could accomplish together if we loved and respected one another.

    That is not a true Roman Catholic priest, im a strong Roman Catholic myself and that is not what the church teaches or its values. The church is 100% pro life because we believe it is utter murder taking away a innocent child's life(murder is also illegal for anyone who needs a refresher) , and as an American everyone is entitled to life,liberty , property and the pursuit of happiness. Aborting a child is taking away their right to life and pursuit of happiness therefore making it sac religious, illegal, and unconstitutional, yet millions upon millions of innocent helpless Americans have been murdered at the hands of their own mothers ever since roe vs wade decided that we had the power to decide if somebody else's life was worth living. Somebody who could have done amazing things, like cure cancer, end wars, and put people on mars. But there is no way to bring those precious souls back into the world now, all we can do is hope and pray that America opens its eyes and chooses life!

As an atheist, I asked them for their view on atheism and agnosticism, and what they thought about the societal and family pressures on many young atheists from religious families. These are the most non-believing religious leaders I have seen in my life.
    Notice how they choose a Reform Jewish Rabbi, the most liberal Jews of all the different schools of thought, to speak for Judaism, when Orthodox Jews don't even recognize Reform Rabbis as being Rabbis.
    Notice how the Imam doesn't quote from the Quran or Hadith to back up any of his claims except once (which was abrogated). He wouldn't be recognized as an orthodox Muslim in almost any majority Muslim country in the world today. His quote on the "people of the book", which is out of context, does not say that other religions can receive salvation because other religions are kufr in Islam. Also note that homosexuality is punished by death if unrepentant in ALL forms of the Sharia, no matter which madhhab you follow.
    Don't even get me started on this Episcopal "Priest"! He ignores all of Paul's writings and teachings on homosexuality. No, there are not many paths to the Divine. ""I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6. What qualifications does the Episcopal Church have for ordaining priest? Not having ever read the Bible?
    Okay... I could have said much more... but my roast is done.

    It makes me sad that so many people are used to viewing religion as a negative thing that the comments are completely littered with insults, and people saying that this must be a fake, they cannot honestly be people of faith. Why is it so impossible to society that people can be religious, open minded, and accepting (or, at the very least, tolerant), all at once? Religion is meant to evolve as society and culture do, it cannot stay stagnant, so it should not be judged by stereotypes that have come from it's past.

      thomas adf The Bible might not change, but that doesn't mean traditions cannot accommodate new expressions of the religion. Some people hear "homosexuality is a sin, homosexuality is a sin" they hear a validation for homophobic and discriminatory actions (from a "silly joke" to events such as the Orlando shooting). My impression is that this people are aware of that and refocus on concepts of love and compassion. There are many things listed in the Bible, but part of living in this modern world is to see how it's teachings can be exerted, an example being going from "hate to sinners" to an approach of compassion and care. If you ask me, that's what the Bible really ask you to do: express love and compassion rather than judge. So, that's how religion "evolves."

They are having a civil conversation about today's modern issues, the same issues that DIDN'T exist thousands of years ago when the various religious teaching were written. When it comes down to it the core of any religion is love, so can we stop trying to point a finger at religion and accept that some people are accepting despite their religion.

If you make some research in some books that were written by muslims and that the actual muslims read you understand what the message from the quran/the sunna/ the hadith' is - its PEACE.

    Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6).
    This is a verse in the bible. I have a question for the "christian" in that group. Is that verse true/correct or is it false/incorrect?
    If it is true, then there is only one way to God. If it is false, then God's word is a lie. So from this verse, Jesus is the ONLY way, or he is not the way. To say that there are many "ways to the divine" is to call Jesus a liar.
    If you believe that there are many ways to heaven, then you are declaring the bible to be false. So, either put you faith in Jesus, or reject Him. It is logically impossible to say that the bible is true and there are many ways to get to heaven. Jesus is THE way, or he is not the way.

    This was a good interview. The problem is that not all the leaders in these religions act the same as these individuals. The Catholics, me being one of them, look to our leaders for direction, but when I see them showing a lack of God's Love for Gays, Divorced couples, and women as priests, it turns me completely off to the organized religion. I will still practice in my own home and in my life, however, I refuse to go to church and be told that the above mentioned people are not welcomed into the faith equally. God loves all His children, not just the ones the church are happy with.

  • @jackancalime1
    @jackancalime1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    As a Christian, I would say the priest did quite good job at butchering the Christian faith. He said a couple of things that go directly against what the Bible says. For example, when the question "is your religion the only way" was brought up, the priest said, "I think that there are many paths to the divine, many revelations of God in the world." This is his personal opinion. *NOT* what the Bible teaches. In John 14:6 Jesus says, "“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." This is in response to Thomas asking “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” (John 14:5) You can plainly see that Jesus says that he is *THE* way, and no one can reach the Father (God) *except* through him. It is quite undeniable that Jesus is saying there is *no* other way to heaven except through him.
    Now, before you start getting angry at me and think that I am full of hate and I wish to destroy other religions, I don't hate Muslims, I don't hate Buddhists, I don't hate anyone in another religion and that is exactly what the Bible teaches. However, I cannot accept their religion as an absolute truth.
    The same thing goes on the topic of Homosexuality. I have many family members and many friends who are gay. Do I hate them? Absolutely not. I love them very much. However, I don't agree with their choices as the Bible says they are living in sin. Homosexuality falls under the same category as a liar or a drunkard. They are all sins. I feel like I had to comment this simply because of the false representation of Christianity and Judaism.
    Thank you, and God Bless

They always say, "Times have changed." If god is all knowing, wouldn't he know that "times have changed" or will change. The bible must've been written that way for a reason. I personally am a Lutheran (form of Christianity) who is for equality. There are other Christians out there who use the bible and twists its teachings to hurt other people's lives. But all three of these religions are about love, saying that someone cannot marry another being that THEY love is not showing love.

    "Do the Work"
    That was the title of a sermon i listened to in the past.
    Don't push your religion onto others or else they will be pushed farther back to avoid your forcefulness.
    A way to show that what you believe in is shown through your actions.
    Like the rabbi said, do the work together, have some common ground that spreads unity with everyone so that we are all fulfilled in caring for one another and supporting each other.
    Don't exclude others b/c they are different.
    Every scripture or sermon we listen to, we understand them but we don't put them into motion.
    When you build walls against other ppl, you are turning down the ppl who really needs the most help.
    Those ppl may not even know what it feels like to be loved (orphans, etc.), that's one of the ways how they feel like they have no one to turn to and they turn to sin for guidance.
    ---
    I listened to a pastor's sermon, and when he preached, he didn't shout out in a public space and force you to listen to him.
    He asked politely, one person at a time, if he could pray for them.
    Sometimes they decline and he is fine with that.
    But those who said okay, he prayed and they cried.

    I feel like buzzfeed looked for the most open minded religious people.

      The vast majority of the Muslims, their schools of thought, and the ordinary are "open minded". Visit a local mosque and you may be surprised what takes place there is not what you see on TV. Talk to me or any of my friends. We all strive to be people of character.

      +Genevieve Collins The rabbi's comments seem to line up with the things I hear from people in synagogue, and it seems Abdullah Abu-Mahfouz finds the same to be true with the mosques, imams, & Muslims he knows.

    "Love thy neighbor." That is literally all to it for this video, there shouldn't be any fighting.
