Im just here curious is anyone else got lucky. My buddy just brought me a 2006 with only 135k on it. He got it at the auction for 1400. They told him it had a broke valve. I heard severe clacking when he tried to crank it but this sound is too familiar to me and I told him the timing belt tensionor failed. He gave me a green light to dive in so I removed the timing cover and check position of the cams. Bank 2 was off by 2 teeth so I reset it, replaced the water pump and belt and it's running beautifully. This was the best deal every in my opinion.
Did the ECU report misfires on the cylinders with the bent valves? I'd expect yes. I'm curious how quickly it figures that out and gives you a clue exactly which head is damaged, if not both.
I don’t have an overly advanced reader, but it did not pick up anything besides, a transmission error code which is unrelated. It ended up being OK after replacing just the valves :-)
Broke the same as mine 180 on rear cam and bearly off on front cam belt still has tension. Im going to replae the set the marks and replace the belt. Wish me luck
Good Video man. Would've been happier if it worked but you know you gotta show the failures sometimes. So I say about 10% chance of the cylinder heads being good if the timing belt breaks
Amazingly enough, it was only valve damage on this. I gave it to Casey who is the guy that was helping me in this video and he drove it for a bit! In true Honda fashion, the transmission went out😂 we think it’s torque converter this time.
@@BadIdeasGarage oh yeaa, the Honda torque converter. Been suffering with that for the last 4 years. The car vibrates when I'm idling on Drive. Probably need to change it but its too much work so I just drive like that.
@@BadIdeasGarage Yea, haha. Its a 2009 Accord with 230k miles on it. I was gonna do it but then I thought, it's at the end of its life cycle and I don't have the means to take the transmission off and I don't wanna pay someone $1000+ to do it. Drove the last 80k miles with the torque converter like that, and it is still running good. I just put it to neutral when I'm at a traffic light so it shakes less. It wears out the motor mount faster tho.
With 300K? At most a used engine. 300k is pretty much the limit on the suspension, bearings, prop shaft, and honestly transmission. All those things would need to have some life left before putting a dime into it. If you tried a head (it would probably need two). You never know what you'll find wrong with the valve train. Add head gaskets etc it's cheaper to drop a used engine in and pray.
Pray we have! It looks like one of the heads is damaged and the other one is OK. So that’s where we are going to start. I looked into what it would take to get the engine in this and the whole thing has to come out of the bottom. I would definitely prefer a used engine, but doing the head is less work in my set up
For anyone wondering, just the valves needed to get done and it was ok!
On both cylinder heads ?
"Casey's timing solution" with the trademark symbol had me rolling. Thanks for the video.
Casey is the best. Thanks for the comment! He still drives it 😅

this one needed just valves also! Lucky indeed

😂 I was just commenting on your Ridgeline video about needing to do this job. I won't put it off any-longer after seeing this.
Smart; my dude!!!

Let’s us know! Ours needed a few valves but was ok till the trans went out.

@@soikothassan6717 don't Dodge people pay good money to have a shaker hood? You have one already 😀
What was all that knocking/tapping? Broken valves caused by the broken timing belt?
Yup! $8 of valves needed. And a timing belt kit 🤪
I would say get a new engine.

Buy ford explorer forever no timing belt
We drive Mazdas now and those also have timing chains. Good idea!
@@BadIdeasGarage samething Ford own Mazda tfr
@@onrdetailingnews802they did only until 2015.
I say rebuild the head
Seems like we are head-ded that way!
Porque tan sucia?
Porque tiene una fuga de aceite. o 5.😅😂
