When the action really ramped up Control would completely overwork my PS4, to the point that it became basically unplayable due to a near-single digit framerate. Especially in the second half of the game when things get really intense. Almost by accident I found the strangest work-around for this - something I'd never tried before when a game ran poorly, but it worked a treat and the performance issues were almost completely solved. All I did was take my PS4's hard drive down from ~90% full to ~40% full. I just deleted some big games (RDR2 if memory serves), and bam, problem solved, game works fine, Jesse's happy. "It is a great time to grab an RTX card"... I desagree on that; with the new RTX 3XXX getting released in the coming months (and surely before Cyberpunk77), this is the worst time to buy an RTX card. Wait for the new 3XXX RTX cards, they should be annouced officialy in few days or weeks.
Everytime somebody says anything about recommending a gpu or cpu there are some people saying "NO WAIT THE NEW ONES ARE COMING OUT ON XYZ" So? You don't know if they will even announce them any time soon and even then, you could say no, wait for the 4xxx Gen, it's going to be even better!
@@mathisbrouwer5405 Nvidia will have annoucement this month, just check the internet. There is also leaks from pretty reliable sources about what to expect in performance from 3XXX RTX, and it's a huge improvement, not just a light upgrade. If you want to wait for 4XXX RTX, you will have to wait (around 2 years), but for 3XXX not so much. If you want to spend your money right now go ahead, but when you are at the transition of 2 technological gen, better wait a little more; you will have more performances for the same price at the minimum. Again, i'm talking about technological genneration relaying on different achritecture, not an upgrade like you could get from an RTX 2070 and RTX 2080. So yhea, if you don't own an RTX card and want one (especialy for Cyberpunk), you do not buy one now, you wait for summer.
@@mathisbrouwer5405 while that is true, you hardly ever buy first gen of a new technology. The first gen is expensive and the tech is amazing in terms of being able to do the rendering but the benefits usually doesn't outweigh the drawbacks. While second gen is cheaper and the improvement on first gen is normally double because you get more hardware for the cost and the hardware has been refined, improved etc. Plus we expect Nvidia to go down to 7nm or 8nm from 12nm which is more efficiency and density improvement. Even DLSS 1.0 as a feature, not that good at launch but know we have DLSS 2.0 working. but NVIDIA is announcing the new gpu line this month(might not be for gaming that normally comes a few months later). The first version of something is not worth using with the second iteration doing far better
@@mathisbrouwer5405 The 2k serie is the first ones that can use RTX tech. I agree on the part where someone say "wait for the next one" every year but it's actually a smart move for those. (if you're short on money/need to choose carefully). The raytracing tech is not that ready atm. Coupled with DLSS 2.0 it will be insane but the framerate is too low and so few games uses raytracing and fewer using DLSS. With the PS5/XboxX it will certainly boost the popularity of RTX stuff. Waiting for the 3k série is a wise choice. I personally have a 1080ti and will wait for the 4k serie if the boost in perf is too low compared to the current gen.
You do not understand what makes the writing so special in this game. It's different from anything else I've ever played, stilted, awkward, and weird on purpose to immerse you in this wonderful world, a mix of corporate drudgery with lovecraftian horror. I adore this game, because there's simply nothing else like it. I also play it in French. I encourage you to play it in a language you don't know. It makes everything so much weirder, and that's a very good thing.
Still waiting for the steam release. Bought Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3 on epic. When I was sure the season pass were worth it. It was CHEAPER to rebuy BOTH games in their "deluxe true final BS" edition on steam than buying the season pass... Not gonna do that error a 3rd time.
Good review. It has flaws but i love this game and the DLC. I actually liked DLC even more. It's more compact, concentrated and focused, highlights the good parts of the game. This is the best exploration game i've ever played. It feels so good explore creepy world and feeling of getting rewarded by finding some secret stuff. I want more of this. It also looks good and runs well with RTX and DLSS 2.0.
Control is such a good game I couldn’t “control” myself after I started playing it, and had a really hard time putting down the “control”-ler and I was really looking forward to the DLC, after completing the main game! 🤩
That DLSS comparison blew my mind. I was sure it was going look awful in comparison, but in some cases it actually looks BETTER. I don't know how that's possible...
The bossfights were super easy if you pour all your points into Launch and use the Prism to hit the boss more than anything, and keep moving as much as possible
I thought the story was really convoluted in this game. I actually bothered to read most of the extremely long text logs and I still couldn't wrap my head around the story. I understood it less than the story in Death Stranding. When the game ended I had a bad taste in my mouth because I felt like the game had so much more to explain and do. I did really enjoy the environment and gameplay tho. It was fun. But I don't think I'll buy the DLC Also the map was confusing
This game will be fun to revisit on next gen consoles. Hope we get the RT upgrades seen on PC. Also hoping that at some point, we get an Alan Wake tie-in. Remedy now has 3 franchises with potential to evolve...and tying them altogether would be pretty wicked.

I only picked this game up recently for $10. Honestly game is really good. It's got a few issues here and there that holds it back, but I think there's enough good here that makes it worthwhile.

I don't think writing is going to change, ever. That's just how Sam Lake writes his games. It worked for me in Max Payne, but I never got used to it in Alan Wake nor in Control. Still, to me is like Hideo Kojima, they both have very interesting ideas, and their stories are engaging, but the dialog is... not for everyone xd
Have they still not implemented controlling the environment? Like moving pieces of ground or staircases or platforms. I feel like this game seriously missed a huge opportunity to do Zelda like puzzles with controlling the environment around her with her Jedi powers. Or even upgrade her abilities even more to break off entire walls to throw at bosses or something.

Or did you just see that everybody else was loving/praising it, so you changed your opinion for the DLC?
Man you totally got Control all wrong dude - this game is a masterpiece - remedy is the shit. This combat is THE BEST combat (gunplay) than any other game I’ve played - I mean, the sound design, the physics, the destruction… it’s incredible.
It's still more (quality) content than what Capcom charged us for Resident Evil 3 Remake. I'll reinstall it once the other DLC comes out. Play em both together.
I enjoyed the base game. I liked all the weird and unique elements it had. I did want some more enemy variety, there could have been some crazier encounters than there were.

So?
I'll be waiting for the cyberpunk release before i buy the 3080 just in case they do this *super* nonsense again.
It makes everything so much weirder, and that's a very good thing.
did anyone briefly wonder if they were seeing Nessus from Destiny with the environments?
Still waiting for the steam release.
Bought Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3 on epic. When I was sure the season pass were worth it. It was CHEAPER to rebuy BOTH games in their "deluxe true final BS" edition on steam than buying the season pass... Not gonna do that error a 3rd time.
All of Remedys games are all so unique and for the most part great. But at the same time they never perform well and deserve so much more attention :(
Good review.
Can't wait for it to come to the pc
It is.
Thanks for pointing out that horrendous checkpoint at 6:06
It ruined a great fucking setpiece.
That DLSS comparison blew my mind. I was sure it was going look awful in comparison, but in some cases it actually looks BETTER. I don't know how that's possible...
New iteration of DLSS is truly magic.
Thought that was Triss Merigold in the thumbnail for some reason haha
Thanks for not going the "ball trimmer" sponsor route.
@MVMking - Many TH-camrs like Angry Joe have picked up sponsors like the lawnmower trimmer where they advertise how good it is for Pube hair trimming.
The bossfights were super easy if you pour all your points into Launch and use the Prism to hit the boss more than anything, and keep moving as much as possible
I actually just bought the ultimate addition for 20 bucks today and I’ve already unlocked the other sectors can’t wait to play the expansions
Thumbs up for mentioning Digital Foundry.
Should have splurged for the season pass, the next DLC is Alan Wake.
Couldn't even get past 3/4 of the base. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but I definitely don't need more banality.
It was fun. But I don't think I'll buy the DLC
Also the map was confusing
themarcshark I know what you mean tried to get into it but found it very soulless
You might not read this but your reviews make my nipple hairs tickle. They’re so good.
This DLC made *The Former* my favorite character in the game 😂
This game will be fun to revisit on next gen consoles. Hope we get the RT upgrades seen on PC. Also hoping that at some point, we get an Alan Wake tie-in. Remedy now has 3 franchises with potential to evolve...and tying them altogether would be pretty wicked.
One of the clips also included the final boss. Spoiler warnings, my friend, spoiler warnings.
Awesome video I watched the whole thing already
Damn. Gonna have to reinstall this game! Loved it playing it through the first time, so i'm definitely excited to jump back in. Sorry FF7, Persona 5:R. Give me a bit.
Damn I came here because I had a weekly vendor reset video saved and I wanted to see where this channel went. We really used to love The Division but now we're all doing different things.
With so little to play right now I decided to steer this a few days ago. Loving it so far. Excellent level design and although I can see how the story isn’t for everyone ... it is for me. Will be checking out the DLC next.
Also, the base game is free on PSnow at the moment.
"Free"
I only picked this game up recently for $10. Honestly game is really good. It's got a few issues here and there that holds it back, but I think there's enough good here that makes it worthwhile.
Control reminds me of the ps2 Matrix video game
Gotta say I think control is my favorite game this year I literally played it for free with psnow lol and I’ve platinumed both the dlc and main game (which I haven’t platinumed a game this generation) highly recommend it
cant wait for this game to come out on steam
Saw another comment already mentioning this but you have a short clip spoiling one of the bosses' identity...the one I noticed starts at around 5:20
Sure, I will play it when its available on Steam.
and 80% discount, it's not worth more imho
Damn, you put a massive "Spoiler" blurr screen over my most favorite scene of that DLC!
I really liked the story dlc and had my fun with it.
Had to look up for a guide for all those cats thou.
And I skipped that stupid arena time based challenge mode. It just sucks.
hey i just wanted to say im sorry skillup. i first found u cuz of ur ANthem hate, and i hated you for it thinking u were wrong and ever since launch i realized u been right ever since lol. and you have become one of my favorite youtubers. stay true and honest.
I'd probably buy the game if the main character didn't look so fucking boring.
Still no nioh 2 review
Damn, I had no idea the DLC was already out, I'm gonna get it.
Still only Epic Store? No thanks.
-You could have gotten it for free on the Epic Store. They release free games every week with no restrictions. Your loss.-
My mistake. I got so many free games from Epic I thought Control was one of them. I got Control for free on Epic though an Nvidia promo.
@@SunlightGwyn when was Control free on Epic?
I just looked at a huge list and Control wasn't on it. Was the list wrong?
@@Arassar - it never has been. Just another liar. lol.
@@UberNeuman I didn't lie. I thought it was free on the store but I checked and actually I got it for free when I bought my AORUS RTX 2080 Xtreme graphics card. Control & Wolfenstein Youngblood were free through a promo code from Nvidia. I thought it was a free Epic game because it's in the same library with all my other free Epic games (which is over 60 games at this point).
I'm waiting for the 3080 Ti before I play Control, I want that 100+fps with raytracing on.
I wholeheartedly agree. This game is incredibly fun and incredibly frustrating
Can't even install it for the first time though, it's not on Steam.
Remedy: “Bitch I’m back out my coma”
Anyone know Ralph’s background? The familiarity with which he talks on development topics, he seems to have been in the industry for a while.
I'll go back once the second dlc is out.
Control briefly had an April release date on Steam. Now it's back to 2020 sometime. 😐
I've played it 🏴☠️😁 and enjoyed it greatly. I was going to buy it on Steam.
Come on, Remedy.
It piqued my interest but not going to get Epic anytime soon
@Mi Ke 1 year timed exclusive to the epic games store
I get more out of a Dreamcast Guy review , that this channel.
You must start over the game for DLC.? I played only standard version.
You said you enjoyed it the first time around in this video, but the title of your last video is basically implying you didn't like the game... did you have some sort of change of heart between the release of the game, your initial review, and this DLC? Or did you just see that everybody else was loving/praising it, so you changed your opinion for the DLC?
I'll wait for the ps5 version with all of the dlc and better performance, we all know it's gonna happen.
Man you totally got Control all wrong dude - this game is a masterpiece - remedy is the shit. This combat is THE BEST combat (gunplay) than any other game I’ve played - I mean, the sound design, the physics, the destruction… it’s incredible.
I can’t play the game due to how annoying the character is
The game is amazing and the character and story are top notch imo. Like some x files stuff. Great game.
I should try it...eventually
Love this game.
Love the lemmings reference : )
Downloaded it from epic game, completed every mission but no foundation dlc pops up😔
Can they be more on the nose with this game and SCP?
It's still more (quality) content than what Capcom charged us for Resident Evil 3 Remake.
I'll reinstall it once the other DLC comes out. Play em both together.
Now I cannot wait to use DLSS 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077! O_O
I'm still waiting for games to use rtx for volumetric effects.
Play Pathologic 2
I enjoyed the base game. I liked all the weird and unique elements it had. I did want some more enemy variety, there could have been some crazier encounters than there were.
Enemies seems more fun in DLC. They are similiar but different. Explorations, puzzles, creepy atmosphere, puzzles everything is great.
DLSS is the true next gen feature not ray tracing. Making lower resolutions look better than higher resolutions at a fraction of the cost? That is insane.
I have no idea how many times you've been asked this, but are you planning on coming back to Warframe?
Ralph and Sam in a DE Devstream? that would be nice.
