Tempted to play shadow. They really appeal to me for both arena and BGs. I worry they’re going to get a hefty nerf though given everyone is currently complaining about them.
I've been hearing that the Kyrian covenant is way better than Venthyr since Mindgames is dispellable, also being in shadow school, and door of shadows having a cast time which both can be interrupted. The Kyrian covenant gives you Boon of the Ascended which is in Arcane school which is good because Spriest pretty much only has 1 school of magic and it does so much damage and healing despite being a 3 minute CD and the Steward companion gives you a vial that heals you for a quite a lot and removes bleeding effects, curses, etc.
problem is shadow is going to have its moment of glory for maybe 2 months, then it's gonna get nerfed to oblivion because it's currently the best pvp caster in shadowlands AND discipline is also a god tier pvp healing spec right now in the beta. So enjoy it while it lasts, cause shadow is never good long.
I took a liking to shadow priest back in mop when I tried one out. Dropped it 100% when they introduced void form. Been chasing that dragon for awhile, even ended up maining a affliction lock in legion.
Call to the void is passive and used in every scenario in addition to being kind of lame, Talbadars stratagem could be useful in pvp and will probably be bis in raids, shadowfalme prism is best in M+ but undoubtedly the most fun
I wonder if shadowcleave will be best with affli or destro. Affli is the logical thematic choice, both being dot specs at heart. It's also good in theory, for putting up UA's to cover SP dots with a more potent dispel protection. However I have a suspicion that the toolkit provided by affliction will not be sufficient compared to destro, the cc is worse, and the damage is easier to shut down. I mean the main benefit of affliction is the UA protection, but it's so easy to just sit on affliction locks and kick shadow, and stun when kicks are on CD. Any UA's that get through are usually manageable. However destruction can heavily capitalize on the newly found bursty nature of shadow, providing excellent cross CC during setups, while still definitely not lacking in sustain damage. You see the changes to destro make it less reliant on big CDs. Any chaos bolt will just massively chunk opponents. But not only that, destro is capable of VERY high burst damage without using cooldowns or chaos school. Especially if you go necrolord, which isn't viable for affliction in PvP, you get to be insanely tanky with LOADS of absorb shields, cc immunity, and u get a HUGE shadow school nuke, which makes incinerate hit almost as hard as chaosbolt. And the best part is that all of this cross cc with double coils, and the shadow school nuke, it lines up with shadow's stun+silence window. Basically it makes for an instant cast 45sec cd mega burst+cross cc setup. Not to mention, that the changes to conflagrate, make it a very valuable tool for sustain damage, causing it to increase all fire damage on the target, and give stacking damage bonus to immolates. This makes the havoc coil window also cleave the havoc'd dps with a very large amount of damage. And kicking any casts will result in free massive chaos bolts.
Also destruction is less global starved since most of their sustain damage comes from keeping up immolate and using conflagrate+shadowburn, allowing for more globals to use on spamming utility like fear and curses instead of being super worried about keeping up 5 different dots on every target while getting kicked non-stop. Also, destruction will probably end up being way tankier than affliction due to their mastery, and the fact that with the changes haste isn't as big of a deal, you can go vers>mastery>haste=crit when it comes to stats. And there is the fact that they are way less dependent on one school of magic, they can go necrolord with the big shield, and the recently buffed "20% max hp shield when u get to 50% hp, on a f*cking 30sec CD". And as a last note, affliction is heavily dependent on 4 PvP talents for their damage, but they still need a defensive PvP talent. This means you have absolutely ZERO room for utility talents like the gateway talent, or the amplified curses which is absolutely broken. Meanwhile destro only needs focused chaos, and demon armor vs melee. You have one free slot to choose between amplify curse vs no decurse, reflect vs magical cc or damage, bonus damage from cremation, or even mobility.
Shhh!!! You’re supposed to downplay shadow! I want it to be balanced along the other specs but any time shadow has had some time to shine it’s been nerfed into the ground.
Exactly man. I feel like Blizzard baited me every expansion. Not going to make the mistake again for sure. Just go Warlock,Rogue they are ALWAYS safe bets.
@@kilyenbalazs6398 its for this reason that even though I LOVE shadow, and disc and holy look fun, im probably going with my shaman or warrior. It happened in WoD and legion. I cant get invested only to get stamped down again.
Shadow is a contender for my main but the lack of mobility remains a concern. I spend far too many matches with melee just glued to me for the entire game. Even if I win, it’s not very fun playing like that.
@@ziggs123 But with the build they're proposing one would have to hard cast VF, and we all know that casting Shadow when you're in trouble is a big no no.

You say human is best choice so that you can use 'relentless'. Why are you referring to a BFA only pvp talent when it won't be applicable in Shadowlands?
I believe relentless is now a trinket. I think most healers will run a relentless trinket and a cc removal trinket I'm somewhat upset over the 23hrs played I have put into a human priest this past week. I can still run a relentless trinket, another trinket, and keep the human racial........ but having a 2min cc removal and relentless seems superior to a 3min stun removal. Shadow may want to just run relentless and a dps trinket.
thanks for the shadowlands content, really helps a lot. but can someone tell me what would be the best spriest covenant if i enjoy pve and pvp equally?
I know this is mostly about PvP, but I've had a hard time finding recent information about Shadow Priest in PvE, do you guys know if it's any good, since I'm looking to do some raiding alongside with high-end PvP. Thanks!
Yes Shadow is good, they are balanced in PVE and maybe overtuned in PVP, but choosing a covenant will be hard. The strongest covenants for PVP are Venthyr and Kyrian while Night Fae is the strongest for PVE.
With shadowpriests and affliction warlocks looking to be good in this meta, aren't dwarves and dark iron dwarves going to have a good racial? Imagine being a shadowpriest, popping damnation, only to have your instant dots completely removed by stoneform/fireblood. it also removes spriest silence. it might even remove mind control but i'm not sure about that one.
It won't remove mc, you cant press anything while in mc ^^ and once you use damnation you have another instead cast VT. But dwarfs are pretty strong in pvp no question about it. Dots tick hard and every rog has poison again
there is a relentless trinket. because medallion is a thing again, taking a relentless trinket does lower cc duration, but you lose out on benefits when pairing the new medallion with a dps trinket or battlemaster which is now a 2 set bonus that increases the effectiveness of your versatility.
"human allows you to play relentless and still have everyman for himself" uh... relentless, adaptation and medallion talent slot is gone in shadowlands. update please.
