    Hey girl. I lived in a studio apartment along the river in Beaufort SC. LOVED IT! Cabinet space was the hardest for me. I cook and bake all the time and I need all my pots/pans . My dad and I decided to create a pot rack with used pallets from my job. We broke them apart and used single slats. Bolted the individual slates to the wall. Spaced them out so that the bottom of each pan wasn’t banging against the wall but rather they feasted on the slat below. Snagged some hooks at Lowe’s and screwed them in. Boom! My pans hooked right on and added some flare (I use colored pots and pans from Rachel Ray & Pioneer Woman). Free’d up cabinet space !

    Computers don’t like getting hot, the placement of monitors over the radiator may cause difficulties. Also vinyl records next to the radiator may warp them.

    This space was a challenge with radiator on nearly every wall! Fuse box or staircase on every other wall. Very narrow entry/kitchen. Girl, you did good. It's true about heat on the computer and vinyl, but - radiators can be turned off, and (to those picking on her choice - she did find a wall hanging option for the vinyls). Considering you just gave your friend for free: sofa, lounge chair, floating chairs, customized desk, ergonomic desk chair, table lamps, console cabinet, reading lamp, photo/album ledge, coffee table, shoe/entry cabinet with customized pulls, photo gallery wall, accent wall, and more not to mention free labor ... I doubt your friend is going to complain about needing to buy a couple new wall mounted crates for vinyl. Plus, the wood of the table is going to deflect much of the heat outwards rather than upwards. I'd recommend trying one of those little desk ledges, lifts for computer and desk accessories to give air space for even more separation, or trying to find a tiny gel cooling pad like used for pillows, seats, bedding in hot climates to insulate under the computer, or installing an additional tiny fan clamped beside to blow cooler air. Regardless, those nay sayers and critiques need to remember that the computer was ALREADY there before, so it's still an improvement as is. Alexandra, you did good 👍 the relocation of the sofa was perfect for outdoor view, tv, lounge, etc. Just perfect. I dare these critiques to send THEIR problem solving solutions rather than just complaining! I didn't see any of that. So, let it roll off you like water on a duck. I just wish I had such a sweet, hard working, generous, creative, talented friend as you in my life. And unreasonable, critical, ingrates need not apply 😅 Big hugs and applause Alexandra

    Ooh gurl, you want an awesome record display hack? I gotchu.
    My friend gave me four flooring boards of different lengths, I had them all cut to the same length for free at the hardware store, then used command hook Velcro I had laying around to mount them horizontally on my wall with equal spacing. The groove of the flooring board is the PERFECT slot to sit a record in. I chose my favorite album art and took guidance from my preexisting color scheme to find a layout that popped. My entire wall is a massive conversation starter, there are no holes in my wall, and I didn’t spend a cent. 🤤

  • @ennykraft
    @ennykraft 4 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    It was a very interesting video although here are tons of things I personally would've done differently. When looking at how much stuff she had, she needs more storage than you provided. The sofa is very pretty but I would've chosen something with additional storage underneath it, nixed the extra chair and put a narrow shelf with doors in its place. The computer table could be underneath the stairs. For a video editor, using a TV as an extra monitor is very handy and if you get a nice chair for your desk, it can do double duty as extra seating. Then I would've put some one long shelf at door height on both the accent wall and the wall opposite the kitchen for extra storage. In such a small space I also would've limited the color and texture palette a bit more, like not having two different wood types and colors for the desk and the shelf above it. And whoever put that tiny radiator in the middle of the accent wall was crazy. There's already one in the room. Nothing you could've done about it though.

    • @shernchine
      @shernchine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      her design is impractical as always. At the beginning of the video she said this house needs more storage, so I expected to see some hidden storage but nope..

    • @shernchine
      @shernchine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And putting a table above the radiator is just plain stupidity. She said she allowed some space for air flow, but honestly it's hot air that's flowing, not just 'air', and hot air goes up, so the table there is effectively wasting energy if she ever wants to heat up the room. Plus, a quick search on google would have taught her that Do not place wooden furniture in front of direct sources of heat, such as radiators...

    you nailed this one!!!! Such a beautiful space. Shows your skill when you can go beyond just your style. (white and pinks like you said) and make the space perfect. I am hoping she will let you do her bathroom, loft bedroom and I'm guessing outdoor sitting space? The couch, chair and metal record dresser are perfect!! What the heck, everything is perfect!! haha I agree about the matt paint too. I like the look, but for me, I need a bit of a sheen for cleaning esp in areas that the walls get touched. This wall works cuz the traffic is low. Well done!! OH, also the gallery wall is really special because you have referenced that she has lots of cameras so I'm assuming pictures are really important to her. I like how you really reflected her in this space ie records, industrial style and pictures. :)

    My studio apartment hack: My apartment is basically just one big room with an outside wall that has a large glass door to the balcony, and the opposite inside wall that has the whole kitchen on it (fridge, sink, cabinets, tiny counter space). My biggest issue was breaking up the room and giving myself counter space since I like to cook. The best thing I did was place a long kitchen cart parallel to the inside wall, turning my wall-kitchen into a tiny galley-kitchen! It helped separate the room and give me so much more storage and space to work!

    Team moody! I like lighter spaces but for myself, I love colour and deep rich ones make me happy. My bedroom is navy and I love it so much. Lounge will have a strong forest green theme when I get round to doing it. Loving seeing something different.
    I don't live in a studio but in an overcrowded one bed as I'm a collector of things. I've recently decided to not have a dining space in place of creating a sewing/cutting table. Which will be able to be used as an eating space if I need it but I rarely have anyone round so it works better for me! And I'll be getting a daybed from Ikea so I can make room to workout in my bedroom so it can also do double duty.
    Clever use of whatever space I have has always been something I've needed to do and I feel like the more I do it the more creative the solutions I can come up with.

    OMG!!! This is one your best/my favorite of your makeovers EVER!!! I love the accent wall. I love the sofa and arm chair. I love the display shelf for the records. I love the gallery wall. I love the media nook. I love how you have created distinct zones, which is essential in a studio. I love all of your hacks. Best of all, you really get a sense of Carla's personality, interests, and passions. I think it's SO IMPORTANT for a home to reflect and represent its inhabitants. I feel like a stranger could see photos of my home and get a sense of what inspires and motivates me. I once lived in a loft in LA and I had this weird ledge that was too narrow for (comfortable) seating. I have SO MANY books and periodicals, but no shelves; so I created a book wall. It was quite a statement when anyone walked in, because it was a massive wall of books, magazines, and found objects. I think with creativity, ingenuity, and a little elbow grease, you can make the smallest of spaces feel grand, luxe, and special.

    You are seriously sooo talented and have an amazing eye for interior design!! I have a year left on my lease (after living in my tiny Brooklyn apt for 5 years) and this channel is what I needed! I wish you could come & do my apt next, bit for now I will watch all your videos and attempt to do it myself. Your vision is a true art form.
    The only minor thing I’d like to see is a before/after, split screen of each areas transformation, so it’s easier to see the full picture. Besides that, I think this is my favorite new channel and I’m so glad I found you!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 ❤️Wish me luck on my renovation.😬

    Great job on the absence of pink:) - The best compliment from the client-friend: This is soo me! - My nitpicks: Beautiful coffee table books cost a fortune and people who own them generally have favorites that could be displayed on that great shelf instead of on the floor where they can easily be damaged. Visual enjoyment/education at your fingertips. - Yeah well, the records - keep them away from heat and closer to the record player - accessibility is important.
    All in all you succeeded with the mood and feel and greatly improved the functionality - very stylish and most of all very livable.
