Don’t forget your health insurance
It takes a couple of weeks but the bus system in BKK is pretty easy to use as an extension of the trains. Also if you are teaching in a smaller town that 30k baht will go farther

Coming back to Thailand in November, have been impressed with the cost of buses in between cities ..In Bangkok I use Bolt APP now for Bkk and Pattaya. Bolt was not available in Korat or Phimai.
30.000 Bath is enaugh in Chiang Mai if you don't drink any alcohol. You can rent a deasent room for 5-6000 Bath + electicity for Aircon at night is 2000 THB max, and 2000 THB for montorbike costs. That means about 20.000 THB to live on to food and other expenses, it will be doable. Food is cheap at maya mall, and other places they have cheap eatouts. You will even have some moen for some drives on the motorbike and entry to hotsprings and a couple of other things. So i Chiang Mai it is possible, but impossible in Phuket, so it depends. I would say you need minimum 40.000 THB in the south maybe 50.000 in Phuket, and Chiang Rai, and rural areas you migt squeek by on 20.000 THB, but 30.000 it is possible.
Talk about other costs as well, maybe how much someone spends over 3 years for furniture, bike/car repair, medical, clothing, gifts for others and holidays, office supplies, charity, money to help girl friend or wife or her family, how much you recommend to safe as a safety net, cost to travel home including flight/hotel gifts for those at home when visiting back home.....
Basically, it seems you do a great job of talking about the cost of LIVING, but there are long term costs as well that are different for all but, it might be interesting to hear your story as an example. Imho. You are doing a great job.
I tried to only talk about the basic expenses but your point is extremely valid.

I have been to Thailand ofr up to 5 monyhs at a time and i never get the craving for western food so i only eat thai food and i don't drink so i think that budget is good.

Excellent tips for someone who is planning to visit Thailand
l live in Kalasin live in a house with 4 bedrooms we have agriculture on 45 rai. we live on 15000B a month, so we pay the health insurance, it will be about 5-6000B. we use more money when we travel to Bangkok.

Very good video, congrats mate. But to be honest, this salary would not be enough for the vast majority of expats (at least for westners). And I am talking about one single person, if we talk about a family with children... then I really thing that maybe this budget would not be sufficient for thais neither. But, again, if you are able to live confortably like that, I am really happy for you. Enjoy the land of smiles!
I appreciate the comment. Like I said in the video that it depends more on life style and I used 30k as a budget example as that is the minimum pay that can be expected. This is definitely not enough for a family with a child (you are right). As accommodation and food is cheap to find, things can work out.

A warning about health care cost. As a young, healthy person you can get good health insurance at fairly reasonable prices. Above a certain age, and as your health starts to fail, you will not able to buy health insurance. They simply will refuse to sell it to you. Which means you either have to rely on cheap government health care, which quality you may find totally inadequate, or you will have to pay for expensive private health care. It is very common for people near the end of their lives to spend their entire life savings on private health care

I would add in there a very important outgoing as well - health insurance! You wouldn’t or shouldn’t go and live in another country without it!!!

Sounds Dooable! But does that include different cities in Thailand? There are some areas less than others obviously. Im interested in the move, but have never been there yet. I must visit first, it may not be for everyone. Im living in 🇺🇸 USA so expensive! It's tempting! Must visit when travel is safe and country is open for tourists! Its a giant step, dont know where to begin!
First step is always the hardest and I wish the best of luck for your future endeavor. If I had to give my opinion to you on this, I would say that, if you are planning on the expensive side add like 20% to what I mentioned and for less expensive areas -10%. The reason I said this is so that you can always stay on the safer side of things

is 150000 bath salary enough for a family of 3 (including a kid of 5 yrs) considering a decent standard of living and good education for the kid?
Always be careful what the electric rate is you could be overspending by 500-1000 a month. If they are charging much more than the govt rate they at least are trying to hide the true cost of the rental.

The budget I discussed can be for both a single or a couple as the fixed expenses like rent and electricity pretty much remain the same. For others, I gave ranges and if you look at the higher end of those, they could be considered for couples. Also, this is overall our combine spending except when we travel, of course but like I said in the video, it all depends on your own lifestyle.

It's only cheaper to eat street food if you want to eat loads of carbs. If you eat a lot of meat or fish it isnt. You can't tell me 1kg of Chicken breast meat from tesco lotus is more expensive than 1kg of chicken from a street food vendor.

The accommodation cost seems to be fairly low. I wonder whether the price you mentioned is Covid19 influenced. What would be the pre-Covid accomodation cost? Thanks
It is actually the normal price range that I have shared for a single bed condo or a small village house. Before I was living in a condo, I used to live in a 2 bedroom house which costed me 8,000 THB, which I am sure the lady rented to another couple and charged them 10,000 THB. Now, I am in a condo which is pretty much the same. In the same building you can find condo owners renting their place for 10,000 but no higher then that I believe. If you like the place try negotiating, they always lower the price a bit.

It seemed low to me too, but it depends very much on the location. SO it's possible in principle. Also the so called "miscellaneous" (including also stuffs for home... clothing... etc.) at only 1,500 bath per month... I think for me (and the vast majority of expats that I know there) it would be enough no more than one week... Then I think you should also count health insurance, expenses to visit back your family at your homeland at least once per year.... expenses related to VISA renewals etc. In my experience... a single man to live confortably in a city like Chang Mai would need at least a salary of 45-50k (to be increased at least to 55-60k in BKK). For a family of course the budget is much higher and it depends on the number of people and if you need to send your children to private international schools

My best advice is if anyone wants to live in Thailand very long term or forever, its best to buy condo room, they can be as cheap as 500000 bhat in phuket, pattayya, buying condo will significantly cut the cost of living, like 1/3 of expense.

I'll try my best to come up with a video related to your concerns but just to give you some information - Thailand is offering STV(special travel visa), you can check from your local embassy about the eligibility criteria for now. Insurance is definitely compulsory worth 100,000 Thai baht and I believe there are no more visa on entry.

TEFL Certificate will be good to get, as it increases your chances of getting a job here in Thailand. I would suggest to do your TEFL course from Thailand if possible as the institute might be able to help you get a job. Minimum salary as per my knowledge is around 30K THB
How to search teaching jobs in thailand
One if the websites that you can use to find teaching job is Ajarn.com
But it is difficult to find teaching job from outside of Thailand. Best is to be here and then start looking for job. It increases your odds a lot.

One person can live comfortably on this but require a little more sacrifice if you are a couple. As in, cheaper accommodation and not going out that often
