For me it's good use of a slot, but I don't use it for general cruising (is active, but not lined up to kick in) but only for the "Supercruise Assist Trick" that can shave off about 25 - 30 seconds for a station/fleet carrier approach and about 20 seconds off a USS/CZ/Nav Beacon approach when done properly. May not sound like a lot of time, but when you think about how often you do this in the game it adds up. Takes a bit of practice at first, but it's a big yes from me. There is a good YT video demonstrating this perfectly, but won't mention here in case anyone thinks I'm spamming. Guess I should watch yours now, Ric :D
I love having a supercruise assist if I'm gonna be going supercruising on a regular basis. You can abuse the module to allow you to drop in to stations going WAY faster than you should Once you're within 10-20ls of your destination, put your "time until arrival" time at 5 seconds, engage the supercruise assist, and let the system drop you in Addition: not just stations, but any signal source or POI where you arrive directly from supercruise
I use one on my explanation ship. When you are doing 100+ jumps back to back the auto deceleration after a jump can be a life saver as sooner or later you will loose concentration. Id have crashed into neutron star long ago without one.
I use the secondary SCA setting. I like SCA because it lets me lock onto other ships, see who might be coming for me, and picking up mats. About every 5th scanned ship gives up some kind of atypical wake scan or other digital materials used for engineering.
this is not how you use this module... the best way to use it is to engage it right at the end of your trip in super cruise as it will allow you to drop out at a higher speed, shortening the overall journey instead of lengthening it. when the timer says 7 secconds to target reduce speed to 60% throttle then wait for the speed indicator line to appear on the distance and speed guide. then max throttle and engage the asist. the module will force you out of SC right on time even though you are technically too fast to drop.
I only remove super cruise if I need a slot for a specialty mission but for general gameplay and casual exploration totally you wanna have supercruise.. just remember supercruise will not adjust for line of sight so if you are going into a more densely populated area of planetary bodies or one’s close to the star, you want to be very vigilant as you near your destination
I like actually flying my ships, so I don't usually have the SC assist and when I do, I completely forget it even exists. The SC assist drop trick might save some time off of travel, but to me it "feels" like "reckless breaking of SOP" so I don't do that either for roleplay. In the rare occasion I'm really in a big hurry I can do a 5-second approach or even "4-seconds, then slam that throttle closed, finger on SC disengage, hold my breath and hope my reaction time today is good" approach. Flying manually generally feels much faster, and SC assist doesn't know how to avoid gravity wells (the most direct path is rarely the quickest) and align with the station mailslot for quickest final approach--the latter alone can shave many seconds off the trip plus has less chance of unwanted scans if you have sensitive cargo or passengers. And if you get off the ecliptic into the flat space the time difference between 1000 ls and 10000 ls is much smaller than one would think, especially when going full throttle instead of three quarters that SC assist requires.
No, when the canopy is busted out, where do the projections happen? There is nv on the ship but it has to project somewhere and since my helmet doesn't have nv, then how? It is just a quirk I guess.@@RicardosGaming
SCA should be standard equipment on all ships, and not take up a slot. Use of SCA should be akin to that of orbit lines, an on/off switch on a ship-board panel.
I use it a lot, but I don’t think it should use up a slot. It’s more of a computer patch that should just cost credits. It’s like the docking computer… costs money and uses a slot, yet when on a planet I can dismiss my ship and recall it all without a docking computer fitted. So the ship can fly itself without a DC, so why the need for one to auto dock. One of those elite mysteries.
Never ever use them myself... (I'll take even a class 1 HRP or MRP thank you very much! Reduced travel times are nice too!) But I won't knock anyone who wants to use them - each to their own! o7
Question, does remove the assist remove the automatic stop when dropping to another system ? I never really activate it, but I thought there were more functions rather than just the autopilot for flying in a straight line
I never use it, I would much rather either add some module protection or hull reinforcement with a resistance. The SCA trick does save time IF you babysit it, without doing so it will take longer because of not avoiding gravity, and its limited to 75% throttle max no matter how far you are away from your destination. o7
An essential module if you going to Hutton Orbital, you don't want to overjump the drop out point and moss out on the free anaconda because you went to make a snack and you too longer than expected. O7
As you noted, it's great for external camera shots. I've gigs of footage of blackholes and nebula filmed using SCA. Also useful when you're out exploring and need to fly to a distant B or C star.
It's a major quality of life improvement...same as autodock and auto launch... I can't se any reason why someone not use it or remove it to free up a basic slot...what would anyone fit in that free little slot..??.. I've tried to use that slot for something else, it's not worth it... Like in real life try to drive a Mercedes or BMW with cruise control on the freeway or autoband as they call it un the EU, then switch to a Trabant with no cruise control and drive 300 miles or klics and see the difference...

They are STUPID modules. Supercruise assist module and Docking modules shouldn't even be a thing in the game. It's a forced "choice" for something that isn't important and frankly, tier 1 slots have very little impact on almost all ships. They are a waste of game code space. The only ship I use those modules on is the Type 7, aka the Flying Cinderblock. It's because I hate even trying to fly or dock that heap. It is good for moving large quantities of tritium though. You want a real forced choice that impacts game play, make a tier one module that changes yaw, pitch, or lateral movement by 4 or 5%. That will cause players a real quandary...oh, and you can only install ONE of those modules...

Same. Its ship dependent but when im doing 1-3 jump cargo runs those 25-30 seconds add up fast.

Comes in handy when your cockpit is blown out and can't see the star port.
There is always night vision incase the canopy blows

Used it today, and I've been playing since the game launchd. Totally depends on the ship build I'm going for as to whether it's a wasted slot.
