    Funny that the Rocks-E is mentioned before the Citroen version, given that the latter is the original and the Rocks-E is the licensed design. Also, the off-road original from Citroen is a reality the other one is at concept stage.

    People who've bought EVs and love them can't understand why more drivers don't join them; EVs are wonderful; they'd never go back to clunky old ICE cars...
    There's an air of 'Let them eat cake' in the EV community. "Come on everybody - spend some of that huge pile of cash you've been sitting on! You can't take it with you! Spend it now!"
    It's not a very realistic or helpful attitude.
    EVs are luxury items for (relatively) rich people. Yes, I used the 'r' word, there. Rich. You can protest all you like about your poverty, you merry Musk-rateers, but the chances are that if you drive a Tesla, you'll be volunteering to help in the local soup kitchen, not waiting outside it in the breadline to be served.
    Millions of motorists across the world can just about afford to keep a £500 [five-hundred] third-hand, beaten-up, rusty old ICE car on the road if they do their own servicing and limit themselves to essential journeys to save on fuel costs; but EVs are needlessly expensive.
    Needless? Yep. They're crammed with tech and gadgets, heaped with fancy automatic gizmos, endowed with stupid, pointless, wasteful, extravagant performance... They're built and specced to soothe the egos of those petrolheads who didn't want to feel they were losing out by going electric. So today's EVs are all turned up to 11.
    And expensive. Oh, my, they're expensive.
    They're the motoring equivalent of those nifty little business jets that millionaires like to play with.
    People are still using nasty old ICE cars because there's no EV equivalent. If you could buy a crummy EV - an ancient Mark 3 Musk-mobile, for instance - for under £1,000 [one-thousand], I'm sure people would rush to go electric.
    It's a bit like wondering why everybody doesn't spend £1,300 on the latest Apple smartphone. Well, duh - it's because it's a waste of money if you don't suffer from 'status issues', couldn't care less about brand snobbery and poor-shaming, and can buy a perfectly adequate no-name phone for under £100.
    We need new EVs - and I mean cars, not bikes, trikes or golf carts - that cost no more than £5,000. China has some interesting ideas about cheap EVs, but they're not for export.
    If EVs were wristwatches, I'd say we need fewer Rolex and more Timex options. The vehicles in this video (yes, even the Aptera) just ain't hitting the target.

      Pretty much this. Currently cheapest EV's on sale where i live are 3500€ 1989 nissan sunny conversion, 4600€ 2012 broken think city then the price goes up with 2013 Renault Kangoo Express for 7500€. Even the old Nissan is already out of the budget of most people and has been on sale for years now nobody wants to buy so old car for such price and also considering its self made conversion so there could be many issues and also the cars age starts to bring problems on getting parts that need replacing.
      Personally i would love to have EV for my daily drive but the prices are insane for what i would get hell even the ami costs here something like 12-15 000 € and i would need something more like a van and those things are so expensive that it would literally take decade(s) to save money for one.

    The Aptera doesn’t really classify as a ‘mini’ EV. It’s wider than almost any car on the road today, and longer than quite a few. 177” long, 88” wide, 25 cubic feet of storage. Definitely the most capable/versatile of any vehicles on this list.

    These EV's are great and all. But the biggest problem that all these countries need to solve is traffic congestion.
    A infrastructure needs to be built to accommodate all types of transportation much like how the Dutch are doing. A separate lane for cars, bicycle etc
    Another thing needed is road infrastructure that can charge vehicles on the go. That way the range issue of EV's will be better.

    What about crash safety regulations? Are there really no crash tests for such micro-machines? And how are they certified for production and operation in this aspect? China, okay, but how is such a car-coffin allowed in security-obsessed Europe? After all, God forbid, for example, if such a truck hits a car, it will fly away somersaulting or on its side! This is not to mention a simple fairly strong blow from the front or side... Can someone enlighten me on this issue?

Thanks to the way electric motors work, they can provide maximum torque from a standstill, which is a big advantage when it comes to tackling steep inclines.

    Electric cars are a curse inflicted on the buyers. The lack of recharging stations makes the owners a prisoner to their vehicles. Of course, if you want to spend all day recharging your car, go for it!

    • @uncriticalthinkerNZ
      @uncriticalthinkerNZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which lack of charging points? They’re all over the place in NZ. EV drivers park where they are, so businesses put them in to attract people who can afford EVs. Local councils put them in too, in partnership with power generators and retailers. Many can fast-charge too, so people don’t have to charge when they get home. “Charging all day” is a good wheeze 😆

    • @Electric-Rideables
      @Electric-Rideables  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You charge theses at home like your smartphone. You only need rapid charging if you're on a road trip. Other than that you leave the house with a full charge every day.

    • @uncriticalthinkerNZ
      @uncriticalthinkerNZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Electric-Rideables not really the point though, right? You don’t charge it all day, whether you use free chargers around the place, as we do here in NZ, or charge it at home. The winery near my home has three free chargers that do fast or slow charge. At wine o’clock at least one of them is always in use. If you’re meeting your mate for a drink why wouldn’t you accept a free top-up? It’s the same in town. You can go into a shopping precinct, get a bunch of stuff done, and come back to a car with more range than when you arrived. It’s a customer magnet, now plug-ins are more common.

    Why are they making cars so ugly. I know nothing about the mechanics of a car, but I do like them to look attractive, but they are now getting uglier and uglier by the minute and too small, I like small cars, being only 4’ 11” tall it’s easier for me to see over the dashboard, but do I really have to for go style in order to see, and I have a granddaughter who lives with us so we have to have room for a passenger, Mini is the smallest I would go, but please,,please stop making them so ugly. The worst ones are the electric cars, they are disgusting to look at, I don’t really want one now, but the Government in the UK have told us that from 2030 we will not be able to buy a new petrol car, so we’re stuck with what the car manufacturers are chucking out, ugly, horrible cars.

    I bought an EV.
    It sucked. Long charge times. Charging problems. Super expensive parts. Limited distance. Major pain in the ass.
    So I sold it.
    That in itself was almost impossible.
    The resale value is worthless.
    I could go on, but won't.
    I'll just say this,
    I'll never own another EV.
