But it has all of the charm and in my opinion the story and characters blow greedfall away. The first time I played it, I think it took me about 15 mins before I turned it off. I thought it was pretty janky, and didn't think it was for me. For whatever reason, I gave it 1 more shot, and I am so glad I did. Once I got used to the combat, I started having a blast. I remember all the MMORPG's that came out after WoW that got dubbed "A WoW Killer" just to have WoW still standing while those MMO's are long gone lol. Granted it's often the communities and the game journo's who want people to read their articles that call it a "killer".
I think Bethesda looked at this game and said that loading screens at every corner of the game is still in fashion and that's why Startfield was made the way it is.
In an industry that preaches player agency but locks you into 7 hour cutscenes, predetermined plot points, and hasn't come across an rpg element it doesnt want to take a dump on, Greedfall actually provides the former. You can be the charismatic diplomat, a heathen-smiting witch hunter, or whatever you want, and it actually impacts how the world interacts with you and how you can complete the game. That is what an rpg is supposed to be.
Great review, I've played the female DeSardet on a few playthroughs and found the voice actress does a better job of inserting emotion into the character. The saving grace to the back and forth is the wide use of fast travel.
Hello, I'm De Sardet, Legate of the Merchant Congregation. Played 2/3 times and overall GreedFall for me is very good game. The best part about it was story telling. World was amazing, engaging and I loved some quests. Especially some personal ones. Also, quests could be often done in multiple ways and choices actually matter, so it was awesome. I also liked graphics and design - each faction had nice style, I always like when game has good loking items which you can use :D Also legate background actually was nicely implemented through the storyline, you felt that you are actually someone important and not errand boy. And characters were also good. Oh, and I very much enjoyed combat! Very intuitive, responsive and just fun. (maybe not counting the magic, magic I'd agree can get bit boring xD) Downsides were some backtracking later on, some locations were definitely re-used, like main palaces in each city or some houses, but it's something I can forgive as overall game is just very good.
Considering it's not made by some big studio it's a decent game. Imo the biggest issue is the fact that there's a lot of enemy reuse, meaning you're fighting the exact same monsters all the time, which gets quite boring. The bosses were fine but regular enemies could have used some more variety.
Recently starting playing greedfall 1. Played it when released and really enjoying my second playthrough. It's a decent AA game so keeping expectations tempered really helps appreciate the game for what it is and what it is trying to be
I’m only 10 hours or so into my first playthrough, got this game on sale from ps store for 9 bucks, it DEFINITELY scratches an itch for me that no game has in a long time. It felt like not only a spiritual successor to kotor and dragon age origins, but Fable. I haven’t done a magic playthrough so what you point out about that is too bad, but otherwise a lot of the other critiques don’t bother me, and other RPGs you mentioned (that I haven’t already played a lot) are shallow when it comes to story based, so even though this game isn’t AAA, it has something unique to offer
@@Rapunzel879 don't worry I'm not going to bash you for liking dragon age 2 lol all three games are pretty good now if we were talking about Mass effect and you say Andromeda is your favorite then you need to be studied😂😂
Greedfall I'd say is something you should get when on sale not saying it's bad though. I dont play a lot of rpg's with the mass effect trilogy being the only other game i played of this genre and i put a 100+ hours into this game experimenting with builds and getting the different endings. But There's a lot of stuff here with potential but because of time or manpower doesn't come to fruition. And if you're willing, play as the female De Sardet. Her performance is much better than the male voice actor. Much less monotone
It drives me nuts that games don't come with a toggle for Playatation or Xbox button inputs. It would be so simple to just have a setting that changes the displayed controls.
Fun fact: Two handed hammers are stronger than gun builds. By a lot, and the gun you get in the tutorial requires no skill investment to use. Still giving you gunplay if you want to mix it up.
I bought this game on steam and returned it. Picked it up again on a sale because I saw great reviews and videos on it. I love this game now!! It’s actually a lot of fun.
Bro you did NOT just say you're using a Dualshock controller on PC. Like to if you're running windows, you basically are running Xbox and the controllers are optimized to work with the system. Anyway that's also probably why they don't have Dualshock display on screen, that's genuinely extra work whereas the UI support for Xbox controllers are practically baked in.

I bought this game sometime ago but haven’t played yet so this video came at a great time, because Greedfall 2 is on its way. Time will tell if that’s a good or bad thing but the first of its name certainly left a favourable impression. 👍
I finished up DA2.....to open DAI, get bored, and spend at least 4 times more hours in Greedfall in my sick leave; god bless, so far this kind of excitement the world gives me I last felt when I played Skyrim (which was also my first game other than sims)....so It really did something right :) Not the combat tho...easy mode was not easy at all!
I really enjoyed this game. No, it wasn't a AAA game, but still very, very good. And because of this game, I actually went back and tried some of Spiders earlier games. I highly recommend "Mars: War Logs". I'm also really looking forward to Greedfall 2.
I really enjoyed Greedfall and I hope that the sequel is at least as good. I wouldn't call it a Bioware "killer," but what I will say is that the vibes were really well done and a lot of the companion writing was really compelling. The protagonist's voice acting was definitely lacking, and the facial animations were just straight up bad, and there were definitely some things in the game that felt, let's say, unintentionally funny, but I found it really fun, really engaging, and I got invested in both the main plot and most of the subplots. It felt like it was made with a passionate artistic vision by people who gave a shit about it, and so even if the game didn't blow my socks off or reinvent the genre, I still enjoyed it and am rooting for the franchise and studio.
I just finished this game, looking back I had a great time with it despite its quirks. The story and the world got me invested from the beginning. Excited for the next game. Speaking of Bioware, Spiders is making the bold choice in releasing the game around the same time Veilguard comes out. So they aren't planning to fill that void anymore, and instead compete directly? Then again it is going to be early access, so maybe they are hoping everyone misses how Origins played and come check them out after Veilguard.
Such a good game, with damn decent replayability, thanks to the significant choices in story and mechanics. Btw BD, there's a lot of gear that boosts Craftsmanship, such as the Blacksmiths or Goldsmiths gloves.
Liked this game a lot, but the camera motion made me motion sick. Toughed it out for 10ths or so and gave up. Just going through a door, the camera swings wildly left, then right, etc. No setting to turn them off, either. Why devs do this I cannot fathom; should be simple to add an on off switch for additive camera movement in the settings, as so many other games do. (Same camera issue with Technomancer, incidentally.) Definitely want to give it another try on PC someday with a mod to lock the camera down.
Greedfall was a great game and great world and lore. Yes the game had a lot of rough edges, but it's great that it's getting a sequel as a lot of the concepts and mechanics that were rough had great potential. It's a game like Vampyr you can see the makings of a truly great game there that the game just falls short of reaching.
It was not perfect, but I had a great time playing Greedfall. What I really liked was the build-up and anticipation of the story untill that first moment you stepped out into the wilderness of Teer Fradee. These types of moments in gaming are rare.
Spiders to me seems like a studio that has a lot of passion for their work, but lack the technical/narrative chops to back up their passion. Everything I've seen about each of their games seems to back up this idea.
To be fair the thing that hooked me the most was the atmosphere, tone and overall the setting. A colonial setting isn't that much seen in the gaming industry especially in RPG's so that was a breath of fresh air for me and I fell in love with the world because it's just such a good idea, at least in my opinion. And of course Constantin! Awesome character and the ending took me by my heart, like I see myself doing both of those things, I just can't decide man but I do sway a bit more towards allying with Constantin because he is your only family and he loves you unconditionally. Only way I see myself killing him is if there was a choice to just straight up kill yourself after you did that, would be a cool/grim ending not gonna lie.
My biggest gripe with the game is the brown filter. I hate when games use color filters. Brown and yellow just hurt the eyes. Couldn't play Deus Ex Human Revolution either cause of their yellow filter till they removed that crap in the directors cut. Thankfully there is a mod to remove the brown filter..who ever thought that was a great idea really should look for another job at a brownie factory.
Greedfall was alright game. I did spend 50 hours since quest were interesting but they were back and forth running, luckily you can do multiple quests at once.
Watched a playthrough on YT, this game doesn't seem to be bad, but it's also not good enough. Especialy for a not-RPG player like me. The decision-making seems fine, and the Skull Island scenario was kinda interesting, but everything else, not so much. The Spanish Inquisition world doesn't pull me in as well. But, to be fair, I believe, as this is their 1st try at RPG, and there's a sequel coming, it's fine for players who wanna try something else in that area. For chesp, it might surprise you & keep you entertained.
I think this game was good for what it was, it wasn't mass effect or dragon age, but I also understood it really wasn't going to be, if you go into this game expecting the same experience you will be disappointed.
Loved the premise, but the rest of the story fell flat for me - and I say that as someone who contributed discourse and fanart regularly to the subreddit and various fan communities. Also kinda bummed that there was no French dub because man, the English script was giving Google translate in way too many instances.
The magic build is definitely the worse to play in this game. It never flows properly until very late game when you finally have enough resources to not constantly have to drink potions, or switch to melee. A blend of swords and a gun is by far the best way to play the game. Either a heavy sword with a rifle or a lighter weaon with a pistol. Those were the most rewarding ways to play it for me. Story and companion wise, I do really like Greedfall. Sure it has some jaink, but it also has its charm. I think this game released at a perfect time, because I was starving for a game like this. While it's not a perfect game, I find it still enjoyable and worth my money and time. Finally, the female voice actor was way better than the male voice actor. So if you don't like him, try the female and see if it improves your thoughts on it.
I don't take Developer " Spiders " serious. Elex 1 to Elex.2 anyone? Smh, I had high hopes for Elex 2, Elex 1 came out not too long after Fallout 4, the criticisms on Fallout 4 were the Buzz in the Industry. I enjoyed Elex 1, and I tolerated the jank and lack of polish, but, Elex 2 was more of the same... There was no real positive change, it was more of the same lazy jank and lack of polish. So now I see developer Spiders, as a complete waste of time, A JOKE , they aren't serious imo about polish or making a refined game., a better game. The Jank and lack of refinement/polish from Elex 1 to Elex 2, is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Greedfall 2 will be trash like Greedfall 1, imo
I really enjoyed Greedfall and bought the DLC. Took a bit of getting into but for £15 it was a bargain. Yeah it's a bit janky and not as polished as triple A games but I think we need more good, interesting double A games like this and Ghosts of New Eden. Not everything can be a big budget super game. I'm happy to give any sequel some of my time. PS, nice Secret Labs Cyberpunk gaming chair! I just bought the same one. It's boss!
7:48 the necklace is the one that gives mana regenration its kinda fucked up when you start as a mage you have no default mana regeneration unless if you equip one 😂😂
I usually like your videos very much but I'm not at all vining with this one. I loved Greedfall tho I didn't expect to, it has flaws, but it was done by a small studio and it definitely deserves a chance.
Lol killed me that it almost boiled down to “yes it’s worth playing… if you have already finished every other rpg ever made”. 7/10 was too generous. 4/10 or 5/10. Technically it’s a functional game. Map exploration/navigation is terrible. Combat is just barely serviceable, but doesn’t do anything special. The setting should’ve been cool, but splitting the 3 factions into 3 different 1 dimensional countries was incredibly videogame brained; would’ve been better off making them all orgs within a single country to make it feel like a real place. Graphics were pretty meh, and vo work was flat.
The combat is just too boring and cartoonish for me. I really hope thats totally gone in the sequels because i absolutely loved the design, lore and setting. It feels like it was meant to be turn based combat that got hamfistedly fudged into an extremely basic and outdated 3rd person action adventure style combat which I would've actually preferred if it was more similar to Dark Souls or Ghosts of Tsushima. We really need a game with cool fencing and saber mechanics. The guns should just work like Bloodborne. That was such an amazing mechanic i wish more fantasy games would use. Stunning projectiles are relatively rare in games and really satisfying when properly implemented. They could also use significantly more enemy variety but that wasnt the first game's biggest issue or even close.
From what's been shown so far the sequel will be real time with pause and be more party centric instead of an action RPG. I'm a little surprised they're doing that since Rtwp is basically in the same spot turn based was in the late 90s and seen as a dated relic that nobody wants anymore.
@@CrazyxEnigma idk seems like these guys have good ideas they just dont know how to execute properly 😑 Its stinks because I like the story but its not worth it.

Somewhat janky but good, solid game (I did recommend it to a few people). But, man, it doesn't remotely compare to the depth and storytelling of most Bioware titles. So, the "Bioware killer" seems like a deceptive SEO reach.
Dude, you can't hold a small AA studio with 70 employees to the same standard as AAA studios with 500 employees. What the hell dude, your standard is BioWare at it's peak? Seriously? Current BioWare can't meet the standard of BioWare at it's peak.

Killer? There's room for everybody. No need to have to choose one or the other.
kick and shoot is the only build you need in this game and set everything on charisma and talk your way out of everything
Greedfall was alright game. I did spend 50 hours since quest were interesting but they were back and forth running, luckily you can do multiple quests at once.
I only got about 1/3 of the way through this game.
I played about %15 of Greedfall. Andromeda was fun, Never played Anthem.
The cities were empty and the romance was buggy.
I think this game was good for what it was, it wasn't mass effect or dragon age, but I also understood it really wasn't going to be, if you go into this game expecting the same experience you will be disappointed.
Need a second one
2nd one comes out next month!
Dang
Really?
How time flies-
Keep up the quality content. Your my go to RPG guy❌🧢💯
Greedfall was monotone dialog and color scheme. It made me sleepy to play it.
Couldn't finish the Greedfall game because one of the quest is bugged and the developers have not done anything about it.
@BigDan.Gaming Thank you.
@BigDan.Gaming My parents won't let me take the prize, could you give it to somebody but thanks anyway.
Loved this game more than Mass Effect even and that’s saying a lot since Mass Effect was my Childhood and first ever M rated game
I mean Bioware won't need help killing itself if Veilguard fails.
😂
I love this game I really hope the prequel/sequel will be as great when it comes out
Go-go Gadget Concealed Carry!
FIRST! Thanks, thinking of picking up this game. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Wish listed it years ago...kept hearing up and down reviews..never bought it. Never got into The Outer Worlds..
Also what is this exsetra word you keep using?
Depending on how good Greedfall 2 will be, it just might be the Bioware killer
THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET DICEY!!!!
Honestly from Fable 2 style to DAO might not be such a bad idea. 😊
Love Greedfall. Vasty underrated. And it's looking like I am going to double love Greefall 2.
Nobody kills Bioware better than Bioware.
@BigDanGamingGiveaway0 *press X to Doubt*
things are about to get Dicy!
I really liked this game, about to reinstall it now. Loved the story and atmosphere.
14:03 ...except for Veilguard
The Only Bioware killer is Bioware, with ample help from EA. Current Bioware is just a lukewarm corpse.
I don't agree that the game was well received critically, it has a 72 on metacritic. That's not a good score.
I don't take Developer " Spiders " serious.
Elex 1 to Elex.2 anyone?
Smh, I had high hopes for Elex 2,
Elex 1 came out not too long after Fallout 4, the criticisms on Fallout 4 were the Buzz in the Industry.
Greedfall 2 will be trash like Greedfall 1, imo
still waiting for Greedfall 2...I dont remember what they said it might be released,But not soon enough i think.....Just a different n great game
Greedfall is a great game but come one, Bioware Killer? pure joke jajaja XD
I love the first game and I cannot wait for greedfall 2.
the Girl Voice actus was much better from mem but it was 5 years ago.
I love your videos man! Always so wholesome!!😊
Yeah, they had a sale for this game on Xbox for 10 bucks so I picked it up
I played this game and I you like janky games like Gothic, Elex and such than this game is must to play.
@@CrazyxEnigma idk seems like these guys have good ideas they just dont know how to execute properly 😑
Its stinks because I like the story but its not worth it.
I can't believe how many positive comments about this game. I thought the theme looked cool but the gameplay was cheap. Some locations where cut and paste
@BigDanGamingGiveaway01 really ?this legit ? If so then it will be the first time I have won something on the internet 😂
Knew it was too good to be true 😂nice attempt tho
Somewhat janky but good, solid game (I did recommend it to a few people). But, man, it doesn't remotely compare to the depth and storytelling of most Bioware titles. So, the "Bioware killer" seems like a deceptive SEO reach.
Love the game
Decent game loved Vasco
I tried playing it a few years ago. Couldn't do it. It wasn't good (but I don't remember exactly why lol).
@BigDanGamingGiveaway01 Really?? Thanks fake Big Dan!!
Dude, you can't hold a small AA studio with 70 employees to the same standard as AAA studios with 500 employees. What the hell dude, your standard is BioWare at it's peak? Seriously? Current BioWare can't meet the standard of BioWare at it's peak.
