  • Thanks to Per, here is a brand new (to my channel) Ruth Rendell Mystery. I did watch this last weekend but there were a couple of bits to tidy up on the recording. I have another two Ruth Rendell Mysteries to upload, again thanks to Per. I chose this one as it was the next in line of the Ruth Rendell Mysteries. This is not an Inspector Wexford story but I hope you enjoy this adaptation.

      Never thot l’d be nostalgic for those years…a lot of joy, a lot of loss. The villains we deplored then feel tame by comparison today. But Man’s eruptions of barbarity/catastrophic global events must’ve caught our forebears by surprise in similar ways. So l guess & hope we’ll endure, as they did. Don’t mean to carp or criticize. It was, perhaps, an easier time- but l was 20+ years younger & stronger then 😄

      @@jamesrouillardjas1671 It was an easier time, but "they" were setting us up for the insanity and awfulness of these years. I should say "pending" or "initiated" awfulness, as the "king Canutes" among us can still hold back the tidal wave /tsunami of global despotism.

    Be on the same footing spiritually. Does he love children. Does he know how to be serious. Does he know how to laugh and have fun. Does he treat your parents with love and respect. Does he love animals. Does he put your needs above his own. Does he treat his own parents with love and respect. Does he do little things for you in the spur of the moment….just because. Does he know how to save money, yet be giving at the same time. Does he show his inner feelings to you. Does he trust you. Do you have the same goals in life. Do you ever see him flirting with other women. Does he stand solidly beside you when you have a problem. Does he take care of his health. Does he encourage you. Does he speak respectful of you when out in public. Does he ridicule you. Is he a Man and not a wus. Can he make solid decisions and yet consider your feelings and beliefs while doing so. Did his Mama teach him HOW to love. Is he a Mama’s Boy . Does he compliment your cooking. Does he compliment the way you look or what you wear. Does he take the time and effort in bed to arouse you before meeting his own sexual needs. Are you his BFF.

    It took a few rewinds in places to understand what was happening but when I got what was transpiring it was great. I like how each story connected and overlapped with each other. Some of the plot needed filling in, as when the young lad was checking on Mullins file it was not clear if he discovered Mullins past history. This would have explained the reason why he went to the movies with Mullins and went to the safe house. The characters second chances and how they were used was compelling. Wonder if Creevy's wife knew about Mullins proclivities? Glad Creevy moved on or was it to keep an eye on any developments in the case? I enjoy stories that are multi-levelled and that include the emotional/psychological states of the characters. Very good episode.

    John Creevey has recently separated from his wife Jennifer and is still obsessed with her and Peter Mullin, the new man in her life. Many years ago his sister Cherry had been murdered and her fiancé, Mark Simms, now John's best friend, had been the prime suspect. When the police reopen the case and Simms is again under suspicion, John begins to doubt his friend's innocence, until Mark tells him of sordid details about Cherry's promiscuous past - and her relationship with Peter Mullin. - IMDB

    • @LobsngDmchoi
      @LobsngDmchoi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maybe this is partly due to the dramatization, the way the TV script was written? Often they try to encapsulate too much in too little dialogue or narration. It's a typical Rendell device to begin a story with 3 or more seemingly unrelated characters or sets of characters--part of the interest is trying to figure out how they could be connected.

Peter's death was an accident--karma, as it were. Satisfies my moral sense within the realm of fiction. Creevy's escape from punishment for the fire is merely poetic justice AFAIC.

    Are we sure this is a Ruth Rendell mystery? Seems more like a long-lost John LeCarree novel.

      Altho this & other comments were posted a while ago, I have become increasingly annoyed by the disparaging remarks from those who clearly do not understand the plot. From the start of the movie there are little hints woven into the dialogue that explain the plot & thankfully today we also have Google. I hope reading their explanation of the plot leads to a better appreciation of this wonderfully clever & imaginative tale. For me, Ruth Rendell's crime writing remains unparalleled & I lament her passing.

    Isn’t this show about that man murders strangers led by a teenager? Anyway, the female police officer has a very strange laugh! And his wife is so stupid leaving him for an ugly irresponsible man, who once deserted her in the past🤦🏻‍♀️

      Don’t forget she forgive him for his crimes against boys. No way love can be that blind
