  • Tommy and Tuppence Beresford have just become the proud owners of an old house in an English village. Along with the property, they have inherited some worthless bric-a-brac, including a collection of antique books. While rustling through a copy of The Black Arrow, Tuppence comes upon a series of apparently random underlinings. However, when she writes down the letters, they spell out a very disturbing message: M a r y - J o r d a n - d i d - n o t - d i e - n a t u r a l l y… And sixty years after their first murder, Mary Jordan's enemies are still ready to kill.

The very end of this book is cut off
This is the text of the missing ending.
I borrowed the book from the library to find out the ending. This is what's missing:
'That area of England is purified- the wasps' nest cleared up. It's suitable for private living again. We've reason to believe they've shifted their operations to the neighbourhood of Bury St Edmunds. And we'll be keeping an eye on you so you needn't worry at all.'
Tuppence gave a sigh of relief 'Thank you for telling me. You see, my daughter Deborah comes to stay from time to time and brings her three children-'
'You needn't worry,' said Mr Robinson. 'By the way, after the N and M business, didn't you adopt the child that figured in the case- the one that had the nursery rhyme books, Goosey Gander and all the rest of it?'
'Betty?' said Tuppence. 'Yes. She's done very well at university and she's gone off now to Africa to do research on how people live- that sort of thing. A lot of young people are very keen on that. She's a darling- and very happy.'
Mr Robinson cleared his throat and rose to his feet. 'I want to propose a toast. To Mr and Mrs Thomas Beresford in acknowledgement of the service they have rendered to their country.'
    It was drunk enthusiastically.
'And if I may, I will propose a further toast,' said Mr Robinson.
    'To Hannibal.'
'There Hannibal,' said Tuppence, stroking his head. 'You've had your health drunk. Almost as good as being knighted or having a medal. I was reading Stanley Weyman's Count Hannibal only the other day.'
'Read it as a boy, I remember,' said Mr Robinson. "Who touches my brothers touches Tavanne," if I've got it right. Pikeaway, don't you think? Hannibal, may I be permitted to tap you on the shoulder?'
Hannibal took a step towards hin, received a tap on the shoulder and gently wagged his tail.
'I hereby create you a Count of this realm.'
'Count Hannibal. Isn't it lovely?' Said Tuppence. 'What a proud dog you ought to be!'

Sorry to hear the book cuts off--But I just had to stop it at 08:00! I'm having the exact same problem dear Tuppence is having--the Pink and Purple fairy tales I read to myself, and 10,000 books to go through many I never knew I owned like a signed first ed. of DUNE, and tragically, another first of a boxed Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass in perfect condition but was ruined during a flood--saw it for sale $15,000! And, I still have hundreds of boxes to go through--many donations from the estates of wealthy old money which I was allowed to take my pick of before they were thrashed--so I took them all! Oh, when one is young and the world unfolds before your eyes through the many glorious tales of adventure and history lost to the computer age!

Lol, I love Tuppence; I think that (if she’d been a real person) she must have had ADHD - she has that inexhaustible curiosity, zest for adventure, imagination, and unlimited Creativity along with the type of Mind that recognizes patterns… even if unconsciously.
…She reminds Me of Myself in those ways.
    😉😄
I wish that AC had written more books about Tuppence and Tommy in Middle-Age, this one is such a jewel.
(She would have also written fantastic Childrens Lit, as well!)

There seems to be s problem with anything very long. They need to be divided up. Halves or thirds would make it easier. Also make it easier to keep your place as I have just finished listening to Agatha Christie's Midsummer Mysteries which was nearly 8 hours long. As most youtube channels allow you to come back where you left off, it wascreally annoying having to wade through it all. There wssn't even a text with the time frame. Very annoying!
