    One of the most viewed, recommended and relevant UP Big Boy train videos on TH-cam! Union Pacific Big Boy 4014; the world's largest, heaviest and most powerful steam locomotive, is now fully restored to operation! This was the second portion of the return trip to Cheyenne after the 150th Anniversary Celebration and The Great Race To Ogden, UT. UP 4014 and 844 work hard up the grade towards Rock Springs, WY!
    Locations in order were Evanston, Granger and Green River, WY!
    It was said for years that this was impossible. It's too big, too impractical, too expensive, too heavy, etc. Now we have our answer; it IS possible!
    One question remains; Can the 4014 dethrone the Flying Scotsman in popularity? Only time will tell. :)
    If you enjoy my videos, feel free to like, share and thanks for viewing!

      thegrandfinale2 You’re a bit delusional if you think that Boxcar The Husky is the only one who would like to see the Big Boy haul a freight train. They were built to haul long heavy freight trains over steep grades. Have you ever seen the video of the Challenger 3985 haul 143 double stacked cars fast uphill? Plenty of people want to see the Big Boy haul a freight train.
      The 4014 Big Boy, 844 Northern, and a Diesels locomotive altogether hauling 9 cars is a bit pathetic in my opinion.
      The Norfolk and Western 611 4-8-4 hauled 18 cars easily on its inaugural run to Roanoke. People want to see the Big Boy do what it did back in the day, make the earth shale hauling a heavy freight train.

      Do you remember 844 was not the only engine working on that train. The diesels assigned would have normally been able to handle it. IIRC one of them suffered a failure, and since 844 was trailing behind, 844 was asked to help assist the final leg of the journey. I will give credit where credit is due though, banking with an 80 inch drivered northern designed for triple digit speeds it’s certainly not an easy task 😛

    • @Pocketfarmer1
      @Pocketfarmer1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Evan Gohlke Yes ,I remember. That is why the post of that footage presumably used the word “Stalled” rather than parked or the like. And sure any following train of similar horse power could have aided the not moving freight in front. The point was that the #844 was shown to be pulling its own load and aiding the more modern diesels . By doing so #844 was working hard which it clearly is not in this featured new footage.

    Hardly "working really hard uphill." It is downhill from Evanston, WY to Rock Springs, WY. Evanston is at about 6700' and Rock Springs is about 6200'. Basically, that part of western Wyoming is flat for those 100 miles. That is why the transcontinental railroad was built there 150 years ago this month.

      divid3dbyZero , , #2650, being a freight locomotive (EH44AH) would not be of much help supplying power to that consist. It most likely assists downhill with its dynamic braking. Maybe a little push on the long uphill grades, as well? The third car from the end, UP 2066 is the power generation car (HEP). It's a converted mail car. Also, car #209 (Howard Fogg) up front, 2nd car behind diesel locomotive UP 2650, is another of UP's several power generating cars built to supply Head End Power.
