    My parents videotaped the pair leaving sacramento after railfair (I had to go to school) but when the Daylight passed back through on it’s way back to Oregon, I saw it at the marconi arcade lightrail station along the train tracks. I don’t know how fast 4449 was going but it was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen.

    I just forwarded this link to a bunch of people. This is an amazing video . . seeing not only the 2472, but the AMTK Capitols etc. !

      +Paul Lanyi Those aren't Capitols, they had not yet started running. Those are San Joaquins. I think Capitols started around December 1991.

    Southern Pacific's Pacific 2472 doubleheading with GS-4 4-8-4 4449 in May 1991. 2472 was moved under steam on April 30th, 1991.

    The still at 7:41 was used on the DVD cover of Skyfire's "2472 Railfan Exclusive" program, which features the 1993 Tracy Dry Bean Festival excursion. I knew it looked familiar! What a shot!

    And to think this locomotive is now in Schellville.

    As the engine was still fresh from a long overhaul at the time, you can hear that the valve timing is a wee bit out of sync. This is due to the engine not being completely run in as of yet.

    At 12:25 (No Pun Intended) is The Moment That I gave 2472 and its siblings a good Nickname. The QuickStarters!

      Holy cow you're right, that think went from 15 mph to about 40 within 20 seconds.

    Was this a 2 day excursion, because for the first 11 minutes, it sounded like it does now, then sounded like how 3751 now.
    Either way, this is a beautiful engine and I can't wait to see it run again at golden gate railway museum

    • @locoboose1
      @locoboose1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was not an excursion. It was just the movement of the locomotive from SF to Sacramento for Railfair.

    I'm no expert this type of air horn on that southern specific SW1500 it is a mystery to me it's a type of airhorn comment on some Southern Pacific locomotives One prime example was the Alco RS11 number 62 that operated for the Southern Pacific then the California Western Railroad until the 1990s when it was sold to the Nampa Valley wine Train where it resides today if anyone knows the model number of this mysterious horn I'd like to know it's not a P3 a P3 sounds completely the opposite of this

      It's a strange mutt Old Cast Nathan P3 with 1, 3, and 4 bells. I say a 3 bell since it plays a G instead of the usual 2 bell which plays an E. Also the 4 bell's dead. Judging from pictures of 2540 it's definitely a P3.
