    Hi
A lot of what you said I agree with.
When I first started in . was told by a biker if you want to be a biker. The best way is to build your bike, and that's what I did .
I bought two old 250 MZ, and out of the two, I built one good one. I learnt how to ride how to spanner my way out of trouble, and yes, you're right. I did not have the money to give a mechanic to repair my motorcycle.
I have recently been unwell, and my way of getting over all the stress was to buy a motorcycle and start a rebuild.
It helps it helped me and I am glad I chose to have motorcycles in my life back in 1977. Why, I don't know, but I am so glad I did.
    Keep up with your channel.
From one Yorkshire man to another 👍🏻 regards

Got my second motorcycle at age 69 this year. On my first (great '82 Suzuki GS65G) for 15 years I never worked on it. This new one (KTM Adventure 390) seems to draw me in, and I've done a number of mods already. I am so enjoying exploring it and learning how really simple and straightforward these bikes are compared to 4 wheel vehicles. And, yes, there is a Zen focus while peacefully working on it, bolting & measuring & adjusting & fitting & connecting, etc. This is just as you say, worthwhile in itself, with a single quieting focus unlike the scanning & decisions & technique that is a necessary part of the riding, as fun as that is. Thank you for your thoughts! Subscribed.
And BTW, I only recently first read Pirsig's book. Right up there with Steinbeck's 'Travels with Charley'.

A great chat. Whilst I reckon I have never risen above basic level😱, always seen to have been able to eventually solve the issue. Always seem to need a tool that dealers will have but is a specialist for the owner/rider & may only get used the once.
My little gpz500, has just rewarded me for giving it an oil & filter change by seeming to have coolant mixing with the oil in the sump. Deep joy.
