Mario Kart Double Dash: 8 Player LAN All Cup Tournament 8/5/2016

- Hosted a LAN party with friends. In a perfect setting I would of loved recording both sources so you could get the full 8 player experience, however we could not at the time. We documented points and provided a prize of a small trophy and $40 to the winner.
We go through an All Cup Tour with 8 players. In true fashion we start with Luigi's Circuit and end with Rainbow Road. Particular tracks were given more laps to provide more entertainment value. Points are tracked on the right.
LAN randomizes Racers, and Kart based on who is picked as the driver. If the combo of characters doesn't work the other character's kart is used. La Planta and King Boo can not be used. When there are more than 5 players, explosions or collisions that would normally knock the back character off the kart will not happen, so you keep your items.
A few people had not played in a long time or had much experience, but everyone had fun and we hope to have more get-togethers with more people so we can take full advantage of a bracket and better awards.

I recently had the opportunity to do weekly Double Dash LAN parties, and it’s definitely worth the effort to get everything set up!
Whoever was player 2 in that capture clearly didn't know about the golden mushroom trick in Double Dash (when you're switching characters the timer for it doesn't go down, so to make it last for ages, you boost, switch twice, boost, switch twice - and repeat - on some tracks it can last almost half the lap - assuming you don't get hit.)
I've never seen this before, looks like such a blast 😊

To be honest, if modern Nintendo made DD2, it wouldn't be as good as the original. The roster would be worse, the gameplay would be dumbed down, etc.

Good job for P1 taking the gold trophy and to P3 and P5 as well for placing in top 3. I plan on doing LAN mode for double dash soon.

playing on lan mode would be better if you could pick your own characters instead of getting random
It prevents a lot of arguments on who gets to be who by making the selection random and fair. This also prevents which character(s) should be banned, if any. It also adds diversity. And speaking of tourneys, this tests your skill across all the characters, and not just 1 or 2 pairs.
Basically it prevents the "not fair your character is op" fights.

@@marioisawesome8218 Yeah I dont understand that argument because for one, you can choose your character in normal multiplayer mode, idk why lan would make any difference. And for two, they couldve made it an option to assign characters randomly, but also couldve left you the option to pick your character as well for people who wanted that option.

If you or anyone looks closely, player 2 was attacked by a red shell and player 4 was out of the situation.
Just now I noticed that Baby Mario and Baby Luigi's Chain Chomp has music as he pulls their kart.

I was rooting for P3, they were most the relatable because they would do good but then mess up on minor things. But i knew in the end P1 would probably win, I noticed they were an actually skilled player(used shortcuts, drifted correctly,used items wisely). Also fuck P5. One more thing, why did P8 seem to shift between doing really well and doing really terribly? They seemed like a decent player, and I couldn't tell what went wrong with them.

Peur1386 Pretty differently. We began without an eighth player for the beginning half since they were running late. Also, we had somewhat of a different cast playing as well. Sometime in the upcoming weeks, phoenixmog will post it up so that you can see. The race on Saturday was a lot better that this previous one.

LAN does not allow Petey Piranha and King Boo because Nintendo knew it would be unbalanced.
Out of all the splitscreen games I played on 64/Cube with my friends growing up, this one was probably the best.
I love the physics in terms of the tank-like karts ramming into eachother on narrow raceways. Best racer I've played : )
How do i enable lan? most games have like a weird button combination to unlock it
Requires the Broadband Adapter. Then it shows up on the main menu.

just get the modded wii, and in nintendont can simulate lan over wifi. so 2 wii's=2gamecubes :D

@@rammy_3 the thing that sucks, is you can only do lan, it's impossible to get this running over the internet with friends with the dolphin emulator.
@@rustedyoda7339 its being worked on, xlink sort of works with it already, but it runs super slow, crashes randomly, and overall isnt the best, however somebody is apparently working on a fork of dolphin to fix it so hopefully we can see that soon!

So I finally got the broadband adapters, but they’re not connecting to each other. Is it because I got a Japanese one and a non Japanese? Or perhaps I’m using an incorrect lan cable? The Japanese one won’t even look for other consoles.
Is the Lan adapter fo the JPGC a JP made BBA?
How’d you do the point tracker on the right? Did you do that live or in the edit?
I tracked them in real time but edited them in post-game

This is not the Wii U, there is no GamePad.
The Medic I'm pretty sure by game pads, he means the gamecube controllers as the "game pads".

I know this was 6 years ago but do you still host tournaments for double dash? I wish I could join.
We try to! In person it can be hard getting 8 players but whenever we get an opportunity we bring the setup.
I also brought my setup in the past to an internet cafe which they let me host for some customers.

As of today I have all items to do lan mode for 8 players
I feel like this was there way of testing online mode before it was possible before the Wii was born and for Mario kart wii. I’ve always wanted to get this setting when I was a kid but didn’t know how “lan” worked or knew what it was. Till i got a computer and learned what it was. This was in 2006 and I got on the internet till 2009 lol

are you able to choose your character in 8 player?
No. LAN allows you to pick only the options at the Select Mode screen; Game Mode, Laps, course/order, Mirrored/Normal, and Co-op. The characters are selected at random then the kart is picked by who was chosen as the driver. If the driver's kart can't be used, it uses the passenger's. This is why certain characters become more valuable to have in LAN.

Ojalá los creadores de este juego Nintendo porfavor vean los comentarios de todos los que queremos que revivan este juego en el sentido que le den más publicidad y creen un mario kart DD2 sin modificar nada de la jigabilidad que el juego está ya perfecto como está, solo deben agregarle pistas, cosas, jugadores con sus poderes especiales a cada uno, carros, mejorar los gráficos, aunque aquí la jugabilidad es lo que nos llama más la atención pero igual poner mejores gráficos no está está más en si el juego ya está perfecto y si ponene el modo online de una manera más fácil ya quedaría maravilloso mejor que otros juegos de hoy día

No, Which would make sense especially when you are just trying to get everything going. It would be too much of a hassle to just pick characters and people fighting over them. They locked out King Boo and Petey due to their perks of having the entire rosters special items which would change the Multiplayer Balance very easily. The argument of just being able to pick characters in Lan mode doesn't really make sense to me as you're already ( Assuming you have 12 to 16 players in a room ) using 80 to if not 90% of the roster when enabling LAN mode, 4 player mode you could easily just swap out characters after each cup cause you don't have that many people and can just use the same ( META )combo, the same thing can happen in LAN mode where you are Randomly given the best combo in the game but that's what makes it fair, is that the fact that its random and not everyone using the META even if they have the knowledge or not, plus this gives the game Diversity unlike WII where everyone just chooses Funky Kong Flame Runner 24/7. Sorry if this sounds like ranting but, I hope this gives you the idea of why picking characters would be troublesome.

+Pheonixmog: The thing that I don't like about Mario Kart double Dash, it his always rig for player 1 to winn, the majoraty of the time, does not matter the character combination.
No, it's just that P1 is usually the best player.
The Medic everybody does good or bad depending on how used to the track they are, and the memorization of the track layout.
(almost forgot) In other words, depending on good or bad you are or whatever, sometimes P1 isn't the best player. But in any case, if there is a tie between players (for example, P1, P3, and P6 are in a 25 point tie) then P1 is placed on top, then P6 on the bottom, and P3 placed in between them.

@@bluebloodzgaming4434 I know this is almost a decade old and you most likely know by now but, this is called Port Priority. A good ex. would be when you (P1) Tie with a Bot in a GP with the same amount of points but, you (P1) are on top due to Human Player being priority over Bots. @SuperNickid. The same thing happens in many other games such as smash when you and another player Die at the same time go to Sudden Death and Tie again. The winner would be at that point of whoever dealt the most damage or Ect. I hope that clears any misunderstanding.
i wish there was a 12 player lan mode in mariokart wii.
