Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully thy subscriber count will keep on ticking up. And hopefully my machine shop can get the crank and rods in order for the under $1k 👍. But they have had them for 2 months at this point…
"Two months and a thousand dollars later" Yeah I know that feeling. I had a single rusty bore on a 6.9 IDI I've been building. Got a quote from the only reputable-ish shop within a few hundred miles for a single sleeve, $1,200. I asked about full sending it with all eight sleeves. $1,800. I said screw it, dingleball honed the bores and sent it. With the shortblock fully assembled I decided to inspect the heads for the first time. Not good. Exhaust valves were all trash. Before buying valves and hand-lapping them in, I called another place that only does head work, about a valve job. Guy knew his stuff about IDIs, said the exhaust valves would all be scrap before I had a chance to say so. We talked for a bit, then I asked about cost and lead time. "Oh.... at least $1,000. And we couldn't get started any sooner than three and a half weeks." So I have some Stellite valves on order, and I'm hand lapping them. Happy day. Gonna boost 'er to the moon and see where the limit is, then back off a few pounds and do it again.

If I hadn’t specified, they probably would have put new bushings in the small end also, and that would have cost me a couple hundred extra bucks. @@freedomworx bacon fat makes an interesting assembly lube and smells good while working, alegedly. Calling it that during your next assembly and the purists may lose their minds.
Disclaimer... I have only talked to professional engine builders about this. Plastigauge is not ideal, but if you're going to use it, use a new set of bearings afterwards. Once the bearing is crushed in, taking it off and reinstalling it increases the risk of spinning a bearing.
Using a new bearing after using plastigage totally defeats the purpose of using plastigage, or measuring the oil clearance by any means for that matter. The purpose of measuring the oil clearance is to account for manufacturing tolerances in the bearings. And plenty of professional device builders will reuse a bearing. There is no reason to replace a perfectly good bearing. The crush doesn’t change after subsequent installations. And any “engine builder” telling you that, shouldn’t be your engine builder.

@@freedomworxhahah. That thing is so sick. You gotta do a video on the specs on that thing.
@mikedeyoung7219 working on it 👍
Why not 320 ball hone 🤔
I think the rings called for a 280. But I already had a 240, and they didn't make a 280. 240 and 320 were the options. So I did the calculus and figured since they were both equally wrong, I'd just use what I already had 😉
Bruh "they darker so they run faster" im dead. lol
It’s science…probably 😉
@@freedomworx you have a very if Bert and vice grip had a baby vibe, keep it up man.
Your bacon has been going down hill lately .
I'll try harder 😂
Are you his wife?
Dam
I’m a civil engineer, so I love a good dam 🤓
Not gonna lie, Devil Dawg. Had to double take one the FAKE BURT thumbnail. Then I realized it's just you, fluffy and grey like the rest of, road hard and out up wet vets 😂😂
Yep, it’s just me…Burnt Chrysler 😂
Do us all a favor say in a very angry loud voice with your shirt off I am the machine😂
I am the MACHINE 💪🏼
gofer Caterpillar?
Rodents and Insects? That’s a different channel 😉
You put way more work in than I ever have when rebuilding a motor, including in race cars.
I've never found plastigage to mean anything if a clearance is out a thou.
Oversized/undersized bearings though have always screwed me. Just too much stuff to mess up.
But like, I'm totally here and in it to watch you do it lol
Thank you for watching 👍
Harbor Freight taps Are junk drill bits and tap and dies just spend the money! Still have the set I bought as a Millwright 45 years ago same drill bits and have never had to sharpen one ever!
I honestly don’t know where those taps came from, but that one was junk. How in the hell you have a drill bit that doesn’t need sharpening in 45 years. I can dull one in 45 seconds. 😂
It’s darker so it’s faster. 😂
It's science 😉
I’m a 7.3 guy . . . but sex sells. Great vid as always and look forward to the next installment!
Thanks for watching 👍😎
Dark run faster😂😂😂😂
Science 🤓
Sure make some awesome content. Learn and laugh at the same time. Wish you would to a complete build on a 7.3!!!!!!
I already did, on a friend’s channel. 😉 th-cam.com/video/WzvIbKeehmo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0w2PueOOZ4yKmDfJ
Wtf lol
Let me tell you about the time I joined the Russian Mafia 😉
Was your father and Burts a milk man by chance?
Burt isn’t old enough to be my dad…probably.
Dude 😂
Had to cover my nipples to keep it PG.
Dude, I subscribed cuz of this vijayo. F-ing awesome. So totally identified with the shit-ass spring steel ring compressor. Complete ass of a tool. Only wish I could say my least engine rebuild was half as professional as yours, the last employer didn't believe end gaps were all that critical. That, among other things, is why he is the "last" employer.
Ring Gap is just a number 😂. Thanks for the support 👍
L😅L
Keepin it real 😎
