Just wanted to share, the hardest part of this job is holding the old rim when trying to get the tire back on as mentioned. I have found the easiest way for me is to put a short piece of rebar (could possibly use the axle itself) in my bench vice pointing up. Then drop the rim over that so it sticks up through the axle hole in the rim to work on it. I also smeared dish soap on both sides of the tire bead and was able to get the tire back on with just my hands working it on slow so no chance of puncturing the new tube. Hope that helps someone else!

Another tip I can give is the valve stem leans to one side when tube is inflated so I put some air in the tube first, mark the tube with a pencil the side it leans, then deflate it and install accordingly. I didn't do this the first time I put it in and when i started putting air in it the valve stem flung back inside the rim towards opposite side. I had to break it all down, remove it and start over.

My exact problem tonight. I told my wife it shouldn't take 2 hours to change a f%#kn inner tube.
I hate stuff like this - once I start, I can't stop - and then I know I'll never get that time back.
Maybe God keeps time like a soccer match - He adds the time at the end.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been trying for the last hour to put the tire and tube back on the rim at the same time. My arms are barely still attached. Your method helped me actually do it in about 5-8 minutes with a crow bar... Very different than changing bike tires.

Thanks for the great video! I did find an easy way to get the tire back under the rim. I used a screwdriver and 2 pair of small vice grips. Lock one vice grip on the rim to keep the tire down. Then use a screwdriver and another vice grip to keep working and holding the tire under the rim until done.

Nice tip, I stood on two sides and then used screwdrivers as I didn’t have vice grips. Punctured one tube with the screwdrivers, but had the foresight to have bought two tubes.

Damaged a tire on my Scag Zero turn. The dealer wanted $150 for one rear tire. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx985f3iNjxHFMO6JoE7CSGActiIEyumFx Local tire store wanted $95 for one tire and both said I would need two tires because the replacements were 2 ply and the OEM was 4 ply which would result in different diameters when inflated if not mounted in pairs. I ordered two of these for less than $90, they arrived in two days instead of the promised 5 days. they are 4 ply rated and when mounted I can't tell the difference with the Grassmaster that came on my Scag, except the sidewall doesn't appear to be as stiff. Tread pattern is identical with the Grassmaster. Will keep the other new tire as an extra if the other OEM is damaged.

Thanks for the video. As with most TH-cam videos, I pick up a trick or two that helps a lot. I just finished putting a tube in my wheelbarrow tire, using no screwdrivers (I don't have the tire spoons).. helpful things after I had everything apart, clean out the inside of the tire and check it very carefully for any debris, prop up the hub of the rim a bit (I used a roll of drywall mesh tape I had laying around), grease the rim of the tire with oil. I actually put the tire back on the rim just using my hands. Easiest tube I have ever put in after ruining rims and many new tubes in the past. Thanks for the tips in the comment section

I was struggling with my wheelbarrow inner tube replacement but feel better to see you struggled as well. LOL I've remove full size car tires manually a few times when I was young, but for the life of me the wheelbarrow tire was much more difficult. After puncturing the tube multiple times with the screw drivers, finally invested in a set of tire spoons.

Haha that was 5 years ago, those inner tubes don't last long outdoors in the heat. Patched it and fill it up with air (about 20-30 psi) on all three of my wheelbarrow inner tubes immediately blew out. Have 4 tubes on order. BTW the 3 sets of tire irons ordered 5 years ago works really well.

1:40 Jimbo has removed the wheel from the wheelbarrow; wheel is on the workbench.
2:00 The tube has been removed from the tire.
2:20 He unwraps a new tube.
    2:40 Make sure to get a 480 x4 x 8 inch tube.
3:15 Tube is in the tire and value stem is pulled through in the wheel.
3:40 He starts to work the tire onto the rim.
5:06 Tire is on the rim.
Tire irons for small tires are available with rounded ends to avoid pinching. Try searching for "tire spoons".
    Thanks, best wishes.

  • @vd7692
    @vd7692 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Lubricating the tire to make it easier to pull back over the rim is a good idea. If you use engine oil, try to use as little as possible and then try to wipe up whatever remains after getting the tire on the rim (before you add air to it), because engine oil will degrade rubber over time. Better to use a silicone lubricant, which is non-petroleum based.

Thank's for the video, but..... That tire shouldn't be used again, you can see that the steelwire are apart from the tirebead. And also when putting in a new tube one has to feel inside the tire that there isn't anything sharp inside. And it's much easier if you clamps the rim in a vice, instead have it loose and a bench. And last, do not use a screwdriver when mounting, use a tyre bar instead.

One thing l would have done before installing the new tube: After l had pulled the old tube out l would have checked the inside of the tyre for thorns, grit etc i.e. anything that could cause another puncture. 😉

I agree - exactly what I wanted to say - I thought it would have been said by someone else as the video is approx 6 years old so I'm glad to see you comment. Also, I use motor cycle tyre levers as they have a larger surface area and are curved and, if you're doing this job regularly then it is worth investing in getting some of them for this job. I did like the use of the rolls of tape to support the wheel whilst doing the job - a better idea than what I'd been doing - balancing the wheel between two blocks of wood!

Everything shown is simple common sense, but the hardest part of the job is completely skipped in this video. Taking the tire off the wheel! This one happened to already be off the rim so the job was simple, but you should make a video where the flat tire is still seated on the wheel and has to be pried off.

You do that weekly and u don't have tire spoons to prevent nicking with a big sharp edged screwdriver?
Even as a kid I used big pliers to avoid hitting the tube with a screwdriver.
Just saying. If you're gonna give advice to novices, educate them better.
