      @simplus1980 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@SmurfRockRune YES. The spirit of the rule is to avoid players hanging deep in the offensive zone and await a very long pass. The goal wasn't scored thanks to being offside here. If the linesman didn't blow the whistle, then the play is good. We'll have one majorly blown call every season and, well, tough luck, getting that blown call right isn't worth all those video reviews.

    • @HDreamer
      @HDreamer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmurfRockRune 100% this, taking out a measuring stick to see if someone was 1mm offsides has nothing to do with the spirit of the rule anymore. Drives me insane.

    I love Dang It days. The Habs goal was amazing. Crosby has basically done everything at this point of his career so add the game misconduct to the list. What hasn't he accomplished? Fight a fan in the stands? Punch a ref? All of those things could be done before he calls it quits, then he can retire knowing that he has literally done everything one can in the NHL.

  • @LisaMarieFord

    It always astounds me how long it takes officials to realize and FINALLY stop play when a player is hurt, even though they’re supposed to be paying attention. That went on way too long when Samberg was hit. Should’ve taken 3 seconds at most to pull that whistle up and stop play, but they wait until he has multiple skates and sticks get too close to his head.

    • @reaganharder1480
      @reaganharder1480 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The rule is that unless the ref deems it urgent the play goes on until the team of the player who is injured gets possession. I'm not sure I like the rule as it is, because it does feel kinda wrong to have play going on so long while a guy is writhing on the ice, but if play stops as soon as a player appears injured, you know someone is going to fake injury when they're hemmed in to get a faceoff and fresh players, so there needs to be some way to prevent faking injury for strategic purposes.

    Offside reviews, no time limit but the linesman has to watch the replay in real time. None of this zoom and enhance to the closest pixel until you can or cannot see white. Real time review. If it isn't obviously conclusive, then it isn't offside.
    My hot take is that linesmen also don't call offside as often as they should because video review will have their back if they're wrong and it doesn't disrupt the flow of the game as often.

    I think a good compromise for review is that aside from a game-winning goal in sudden death or any on ice call in the playoffs, they are limited to a maximum of 2 minutes to determine if there is enough evidence to overturn the ruling. If nothing can be concluded by the end of that time, the call will stand. That's how long TV timeouts last anyways.

Was Hart's momentum already taking him out of the play? Yes. Did Foegele's contact make much of a difference? Shouldn't have if he was also trying to avoid hitting Hart. Utterly ridiculous that it has to take so long to look for such a miniscule, arguably-negligible "offence".

    I've had a thought for a while that if an offside review takes more than 30 seconds, it wasn't egregious enough to actually impact the play and it should be considered legal. Get the lengthy reviews out of here. If you can't tell in 30 seconds? It's not the end of the world, let it roll.

    I started playing in 1968 and my pet peeve is goalies who roam, stay put, usually if you do handle the puck behind your net it confuses your own D and bad things happen. Stay home. Geez dang it.

    The reason the review took so long wasn't because it was hard to tell if he entered the zone before the puck. They couldn't decide whether or not the puck bouncing off his skates and eventually to his stick constituted control.

    I still don't understand how, in 2023, with the tracking technology we have, we can't figure out if a player is offside or not. We know the puck is being tracked by a computer: just add a chip in the players' skates and one for the blue line and let the computers do the job instantly

    I never believed that Spencer Knight was as unbelievable as many said. Maybe he's just not ready for the NHL, but I never feel confident about a win when he's between the pipes. I think the Cats need a dependable veteran as a backup to Bob, but what do I know?

    There is a simple fix for the extra long checks, you add in two things. 1, the real time ruling takes precedence and 2 to be over turned it needs to be clear and obvious. Will it catch everything? No, but will at least reduce the amount of wait time when a review happens.

  • @qelip
    @qelip ปีที่แล้ว

    Solution for the offside review : they can only review in real time or in half speed if you can’t tell in half speed then it’s not significant enough for it to be offside

    Get rid of the offsides rule. Let’s really open up the ice. If they want to keep replay for offsides, then they get 2 minutes to review. If you can’t see it in 2 minutes, then it’s to close to overturn, play stands
