They went from a bottom feeder to 1 point out of a payoff. You cannot snicker at that. Ottawa was 7 points ahead of Montreal just before Montreal's road trip and they are now only 1 point back meaning Ottawa is stinkville at this time. They should have dropped at least 3 spots
@@shuvmesumknowlegde Before Ottawa's recent weak spell, they were on a tear and had gone 8-3 in December prior to the Xmas break to peak at 5 games above .500 and holding down 2nd WC spot. Now, they've hit a rough patch and are back to a middling 2 games above .500. Montreal's recent tear has dug the team out a massive hole but they'd have to continue that pace to even get to where Ottawa was (5 games above .500). If they do, they'll move up considerably in power rankings. They're not yet a top 16 club. Still, I believe that they have the makings to get there.
02:45 The Boston Red Sox reverse swept the New York Yankees 20 years ago. Anytime a team is down three games to something in the playoffs, that improbable series win comes up. I don’t think anyone is ever going to stop bringing up that Blues reversal, either.
I don't think the Bs make it in. Better teams on their heals and Pasta leading their team in goals assists and everything that matters, if he has a dry streak they'll plummet.
Personally I’d enjoy a east vs west comparison video! I think there’s a strong storyline with how strong the west is! And selfishly as an LA fan I’d love a video on the kings and how they’ve surpassed expectations coming into this year !❤
Actually, Vegas lost to Montreal on New Years eve. They blew a 2 goal lead, but I give a lot of credit to the Canadians. They looked pretty good, and since they're my favorite Canadian team, I hope they make the playoffs.
Appreciate your take on my devils but they have been brutal. After losing that 2nd game of the b2b with carolina they haven't really competed. It is no longer being goalied..it is starting to look like last year...if they are not scoring on the rush they aren't scoring..the power play has come down to earth..they are giving up TONS of odd man rushes and Markstrom can only do so much...need some more scoring depth..tatar..invisible...mercer..invisible. so to have them near the top is super generous.
As a habs fan im not disapointed .. i think that is pretty accurate. Even tho im quite hyped with the recent performances i think before we can say they are in the top half they have to show some more consistency! Nice vid and nice ranking!
The thing I like about this board is seeing so many teams trapped at the bottom last year making their way upwards. It's great watching their efforts yield results and seeing them climb up the board. Good for them
I appreciate the rational, balanced thought process with the Devils, but I would've maybe dropped them another spot or two. They got away from their game and identity and they deserve the criticism. They'll turn it around, but they better do it quickly.
The Caps are still getting points even in games where they seem to not be playing to their potential, which is pretty much all you can ask for. Hopefully they can get everything firing on all cylinders again and shore up some of the defensive lapses that have been popping up far more often of late. One of the most exciting aspects of this team is that it seems like when one of either offense, defense, or goaltending is having a rough game, the other 2 kick it into overdrive to make up for it and still get the win.
Pay no attention to "some Habs fans"..and speaking as one, they belong where they are on the rankings. Moving up 7 spots on your list is HUGE!! Great show as always.

I find your channel the very best for information thanks alot
This is peak life as a Habs fan since they made the finals
Smelling those playoffs fumes is nice
if the past told us anything, tthey usually succeed when faced with the impossible and fail when faced with a smooth terrain
Has anyone ever fallen further than the Rangers have in the power rankings, in just half a season?
In 2022-23 the Blues dropped from 2nd to 28th just 3 weeks later.
Do you think the Rangers are protesting Drury with their play. That trade of Trouba to Anaheim really helped the Ducks
I love your content. It’s simple yet intricate. You are passionnate ans it shows.
Simple game plan for the Wings: get to 3 goals first. This season there's a 92% chance of victory if you do that.
Is that league-wise? Or just for the wings?
League wide, they were talking about it last night on the wings broadcast.
Can I gloat a lil as a Habs fan when detroit got to 3 first and Montreal won (Dec 20).
@@alexschannel8636 Go right ahead. Winning with 8% odds is gloat worthy.
Sure, 3 goals is just easy as that
Love these videos and love the new pucks!
Gosh it's frustrating when you're team is doing fantastic and two other teams in Pacific are doing just as good
Me, a Kings fan, worried THG might put them at #1 and remembering what happened last year
Love the Jersey pucks super cool
GO KINGS GO!!
Shannon love the videos! Just to clear it up, but Vegas lost to the habs, so their steak is not 6 :)
Knew the Wings jersey would be on. TM has changed this team
Team no tm
@@randombutrelevantwhile we don't have a cup roster... No one is arguing that... Is our roster really any worse than other teams jockeying for the final spot?
Does Detroit objectively have a worse roster than Ottawa? The Habs? Flyers?
No. Of course they don't
So he has had a positive impact, obviously. Just watch the last 3 games . Systems completely changed and more intensity focused hockey and less dump and counter attack hockey.
Not even close to a contender but playing more like a playoff team than a #32 team, Im happy with that.
@@randombutrelevant Wow, who urinated in your cheerios this morning?
™️
"They Buffalo'd it" 🤣🤣
3 of the top 4 teams are Pacific teams. It's been awhile.
I knew the Wings were gonna jump up but I didn't think it would be seven spots.
"They'd have trouble putting the puck in the ocean" is an awesome line, I love it
Satisfying to see VGK at the top row for 3rd consecutive week.
And I love the double mouse click during the sign off “as always”.
Hopefully the Canucks can get it together.
I was a the Kings/Bolts last night. I thought Lightning controlled the puck more than Kings, took more shots but lacked speed and creativity. Home team advantage completely.
Saw the highlights, looks like TB had a bunch of outnumbered attacks and Kuemper came up big.
love a power rankings with a wings jersey >:)
As a Kings fan, reminder that we're on a 9 game winning streak at home. And, we're also doing this without Doughty. But, we'll see where the season has us now.
Habs fan so I’m curious how is joel edmunson for you guys this year?
@adamjanks4966 doing well. I feel like all we're trying to do is not meet the Oilers in round 1 lol
@@adamjanks4966he seems like a solid consistent defenseman with some grit
@@adamjanks4966been terrific. He’s paired with the rookie D Clarke (offensive talent). He’s gritty and scored huge goals for us to win 1 goal games. I believe he has 4 or 5 goals. Plays great D and is gritty.
Let's go Minnesota! :D Also love your videos! keep it up!
As a Habs fan, saying the Habs are a top 10 team right now is complete lunacy. They'll need to line up more Ws and get a firm grip on a playoff spot before that happens
Thank you( long time subscriber)
As a flyers fan, the goalie situation is a way to tank a season without completely airmailing this year. Torts has never hid his fears that goaltending could be the thorn in the franchise’s side.
3 of the top 4 teams are in the Pacific right now 👀
3 Canadian and 3 pacific teams in the top row. ‘25 is going to be interesting.
And people out East will still try to say that the Pacific is the weakest division.
Fully agree with Shannon on this ranking. Habs fan here and agree one great month does not make a season. If they do well in January - ie earn their way to the second row - entirely different complexion.
Spot on
They went from a bottom feeder to 1 point out of a payoff.
@@djd2819 Yea and now they aren't and Montreal is. nuff said
well if the habs taught us anything in the past is that they usually succeed when its close to impossible and fail whenever it seems easy
12:20 you forgot Vegas aswell for Mtl, they only lost 2 games since Dec 17th against the Sabres
Pacific division is brutal!
THGs analysis of the Canes makes me feel better about our performance as of late. 🙏🙏
As a habs fan that's a generous jump. It's been a fun road trip hopefully they keep the momentum
Great Video, as usual, Shannon
I'll be happy if the Pens finish in the top 15. But the Kings are looking powerful & impactful. GO KINGS! 👑
Vegas lost to Habs
They won a moral victory.
When a team wins so much u just assume they haven't lost.
Embarrassing.
02:45 The Boston Red Sox reverse swept the New York Yankees 20 years ago. Anytime a team is down three games to something in the playoffs, that improbable series win comes up. I don’t think anyone is ever going to stop bringing up that Blues reversal, either.
Shannon...your power rankings are one of the best things you do all week!!
If I’m a bruins fan I would be nervous. Last I checked Tampa had played 3-5 less games and were only a couple points behind
Don't look now, but the Habs are only 5 points behind Boston with 2 games in hand
@ sens are right there too with 3 games in hand. Gonna be an interesting few months
I don't think the Bs make it in. Better teams on their heals and Pasta leading their team in goals assists and everything that matters, if he has a dry streak they'll plummet.
Bruins remain a likely wild card team.
ah cmon the bruins always make the playoffs no matter what....they would make it with elders in wheelchairs if needed
Personally I’d enjoy a east vs west comparison video! I think there’s a strong storyline with how strong the west is! And selfishly as an LA fan I’d love a video on the kings and how they’ve surpassed expectations coming into this year !❤
Great Thanks
Lets go Kings!
Hey THG , big respect, considering from where you came
The thing I like about this board is seeing so many teams trapped at the bottom last year making their way upwards.
22:08 Did he forget about Winnipeg lol
Understandable if he did
Yup. 3 Canadian teams in a row but.. oh well
@@drumline17 I get what you mean but he did literally just talk about them lol
With Minnesota they're 12-3 against Eastern teams but flounders against Western teams. It's frustrating 😭
West is stronger imo.
Still 5-1 in their last six without their best player. And that includes the stars on the road.
@@skoolynugenator1802 Yet only 5-5-0 over their last ten...
And Jake Middleton has been out. Arguably the best Defenseman in all of hockey. I was shocked he ranked the Wild so low.
The top 3 in the pacific is scary this year.
Montreal it seems has finally has its act together, they are playing excellently and Dobes is a pleasant surprise and may get Primeau traded
Pay no attention to "some Habs fans"..and speaking as one, they belong where they are on the rankings. Moving up 7 spots on your list is HUGE!! Great show as always.
A new term just got entered into today's lexicon...you got Buffaloed..
😅😂😊
Vegas did lose a close one to the Habs. I couldn’t watch that game due to work but credit to the Habs for that win. Three Pacific division teams in the top 4. Going to be a good race to the finish. Go Knights
Playoffs are going to be amazing this year
I never thought I'd see the kings as high as #2. I could cry!
“Trouble putting the puck in the ocean.” 😂
