  • it was surprisingly difficult to find some of the info I needed for this telemetry overview, telemetry just doesn't get discussed enough! But hopefully this video helps to change that!
    Let me know if you have any info to add or discuss, I'm here to learn just as much as you guys! |

    I honestly doubt that the devs could provide a better explanation that you have here. Thank you again for such a straightforward and useful explanation of how stuff works in the Forza universe. I have been revisiting tunes on cars I like and tweaking them based on info in your videos and it is amazing how little things make a big difference.

    Not enough people know about/stress the importance of this “hidden” telemetry window. Makes horizon much more similar to Motorsport and this means you can accurately fine tune on your own instead of grabbing a premade tune that wont work to full potential when it’s in the hands of a different driver. Thanks for posting this and your explanations are to the point and well delivered. Great work!

    • @kevinryan8592
      @kevinryan8592 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s generous to say not enough people know. Looking at half of the tunes that are published, I’d say 75% of people don’t know about this and you see that with any online match with racers swerving all over the road.

    Hoki, I have been watching your videos for a couple months now and I just have to say that you are doing a great job. Thanks to your videos, I have taken a great interest into the tuning side of the game and while I am not perfect at tuning, I have been able to get some great changes made to my cars. Your drift tuning guide in particular helped me make a pretty darn good drift tune for my 2000 Silvia Spec-R so, thanks for that lol. Keep up the good work bud!

    Spring offset is a percentage. In metric units it goes from 0 to 100 and then imperial units are just a conversion of that.

    • @HokiHoshi
      @HokiHoshi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I don't think thats the case, its inches in US and shows centemeters in metric (on my game anyway), and even then, why would max out on all cars at 40%? I think it's just showing 0-100 cm, 100cm converts to (about) 40in

    • @oleg_aka_djmeg
      @oleg_aka_djmeg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HokiHoshi that is exactly the case, because 100 cm would be 100% and it is consistent on all cars from peel to regalia type d. the reason it maxes out at 40 inches is because imperial units in this game are simply a conversion of metric units.

    • @HokiHoshi
      @HokiHoshi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When in metric you could still read it as a percentage sure and it would technically be accurate but that still means in US it's broken, I'm guessing their intention was to switch it to a percentage for this game but somehow got messed up because in past games it never showed a percentage, it was always an accurate inches or centimeters.

    For camber tuning should I focus on the live camber read out in the telemetry or on the tire heat map when cornering? Tuning for 0 front camber while cornering causes the outside edge of the tire to overheat, but tuning for even tire heat across the tire causes the front camber to be in the negatives when cornering.

    • @HokiHoshi
      @HokiHoshi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Base your tune on the heat readout over the camber readout imo, a little bit of negative camber under hard cornering is still totally fine, you can also play with castor to get more/less cornering camber without affecting straight line stuff

    • @EAHowe
      @EAHowe 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      General rule of thumb is you want the inside edge of the tire to be the hottest and outside the coldest, and the middle temp should be the average of the inside outside. I.e if your inside is 190° and outside 180° your middle temp should be 185°.
      I find a temp difference between the middle and the outside corner or inside corner of around 5°-10° to be optimal. If it's too high you don't have enough tire pressure, if it's too low you have too much.
      And to expand on what @hokihoshi said, caster will change your dynamic camber, or the amount of camber you have over the entire range of steering angle. What you see in the garage is static camber with the front wheels perfectly straight, and as you turn the wheel further you gain more negative camber. The more caster you run the more that camber increases.

    • @pat95susman
      @pat95susman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Izhkoort if you’re racing the f-150 especially in manual I’ve found it useful to set up 5 gears (5th goes to max speed) just to minimize shifting. The extra gears are likely due to the irl car having automatic transmission where you want more gears to get the most torque for towing at different speeds. In forza though the time between shifts is significant so if you’re going for lap times adjust it for fewer gears. The only time 10 gears would be good is in a very technical track where you need your car to stay at high rpm for a variety of corners. Hope this helps even just a bit!

    At 5:10 you explain how above ~110% peak is bad and that it should be counteracted by increasing grip. Let's say I'm building a S1 or S2 car, therefore running race tires and aero mods but my peak regularly goes above 110% even with aero tuning maxed out, camber tuned to ~0 degree on the outside tire and tire pressure tuned to reach as close to peak grip temps as possible. Do I have any options left to increase grip or do I at this point just have to choose between over- or understeering and deal with it?

    • @HokiHoshi
      @HokiHoshi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah good question! At a certain point, more with higher HP cars, there's sometimes just nothing you can do to prevent some loss of grip, so as long as the car "feels" okay, then probably don't worry about it! One thing you can do though is try to shift some more grip (not too much) to the inside, which can be done mostly by stiffening front arbs or suspension, but also in damping and front toe. But yeah over all, if you're peak is getting "too" high, its a great indicator that you might be able to get more out of the car, but there's only so much that can be done and car feel > anything else imo.

  • @davidmoore1253

    This isn't related to telemetry but I've been wondering, when is torque more important than power?

    • @pat95susman
      @pat95susman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Moore cornering/hooning/off-roading (simply). Torque is one of those factors overshadowed by hp...but it’s the same. Hp is torque times rpm mathematically so if you have high torque you’ll get higher hp at high rpm. Great for courses where you’re operating close to the red line for most of the track. Try testing a car with higher torque than hp off road or on a small track and you’ll see this in action!

    The thing with the rpm counter makes me confused again about gear tuning

    • @HokiHoshi
      @HokiHoshi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sure, so lets say your car says it make 200hp, well what that really means is it makes 200hp at a certain rpm (usually around 5-7000) and anywhere else, it makes less. So your goal is to find the rpm range that contains the highest horsepower values, sometimes that means shifting right when you hit your peak, sometimes it means waiting until a few hundred rpm after hitting that peak, it all depends on your power/torque curve. Kind of tough to explain in text, but hopefully that atleast helps! Maybe I'll make a quick tuning vid that can explain it a bit better.

    • @HokiHoshi
      @HokiHoshi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A tune always includes whatever visual mods the tuner had, because those affect performance as well (different wheel weights, aerodynamics, etc). So the 1st time you got lucky and the tuner had the same parts selected as you did. That's a downside of buying other people's tunes is thay you're stuck with their visual choices as well.

    Does anyone know what the optimal tyre temperatures are?

    • @judahsoremy9857
      @judahsoremy9857 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, the best answer I can give you is 32. Take whatever car your using and open the telemetry. Drive on the longest straight you can until your tires reach maximum temperature. Write that number down, then find a nice open area and maintain a circle for about sixty seconds or until your tires reach maximum temperature. Now, take both of those numbers and find the average of both, then subtract from that number and adjust your front tires to be at 31.5 pounds per square inch, and 29.5 for your rear tires unless it All-Wheel-Drive, then it's 31.5 front and 31.5 front. For Rear Engine and Front Engine cars you have to configure the weight distribution. So if it's a 60% Front Engine car subtract 10% from the front and add 10% to the rear. Same with Mid Engine cars, just factor in the weight distribution %.
      Also, take into consideration how weight is distributed by the suspension of the car by how quickly the tires heat up to maximum temperature. You do this by monitoring tire temperature from zero degrees to maximum temperature. If it's a car that ha horrible power distribution like EVERY Ford or Jaguar, just add a few extra pounds, like one or two so the tires are over-worked. Most Fords and Jaguars I run 36 rear pounds per square inch, just to give you an example. Anyway, you'll figure it out. If nothing else, you won't be far off if your tires are between 30 -32 pounds per square inch at maximum temperature.
