    I didn't know there was a study on this. I actually do this especially when I have to fast. What I do is I journal the food I'm craving and think about eating them, I imagine the taste, the texture, what I feel. Then, that's it, no more craving. It helps when I'm fasting.

    That's actually very interesting.

    Could this technique be used for smoking?
    Could it have lasting results?

    I often find that after I get done researching a potential purchase online I no longer desire the item. It's as if I've shopped it out of my system. Maybe they are similar phenomenons.

    The last time I was hanging out at the Library I binged on way too many Smarties, probably about 300g worth. Tonight on the way to the Library I was thinking about Smarties and then the whole over indulging episode of last time came back and suddenly the last thing I wanted was Smarties. This all happened before I even saw this video. I'd say the researchers in Boston are onto something!

    I once went 7 years without chocolate. My trick was to tell myself it wasn't food, therefore it might as well have been rocks. It worked very well. Took a while for the cravings to stop. I started eating it again when I started buying it for someone else.

      +MrKeflor I bought some addictive sirup waffles to send along with a parcel for friends. I'll either have to buy them again, or not include the little attention. Buying something means consuming it. Who ever lets great quasi food go bad due to letting it sit?

    That could be a useful exercise. I'm sure the results would be all over the place. When I see something like this I think there must be people who, when you mention cravings, wonder what people are actually talking about. They either don't have any or they are so slight they don't notice them. I believe for almost all human conditions there are people at opposite ends of the spectrum. Studying the outliers would be the most beneficial I would think. For me, I don't have nightmares. (A dream where I am physically at risk. I have "I can't get my work done." types of nightmares or I am afraid I can't save someone some from a monster.) Since I was a child (I'm almost 50 now.) I'm pretty sure that's not normal.

    i think also replace candy with 80% chocolate bar,very bitter,so few pieces r enough to satisfy. hearty person? whole grain sandwich w bit peanut butter or baked potatoes instead of fries or crisps. also instead of fizzy drinks,i drink tea,coffee without sugar. another tip: 100% cocoa powder + boiling water + touch of milk= healthy cocoa drink,i think. also, don't buy the candy :) what u don't have, u cannot wolf up. cheers, o, easy w the alcohol ;)

    Strange technique. It could work, but I can't see people taking the time to focus their imagination for that long.
    A better technique imo is to drink 2 glasses of water in succession (or a 750ml bottle). You'll fill up the stomach and the taste generally kills a craving for sugary sweets. It's also a good technique shortly before meals if you want to reduce portion sizes. 2 different doctors I've spoken to recommend drinking 1.5L of water before 9:30am and go onto at least 3 litres over the day. I'd recommend stopping by ~9pm so you don't interrupt your sleep with required pitstops.

  • @hrnekbezucha
    @hrnekbezucha 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    It might be better to focus on the source of the craving. Why do I crave chocolate so much? The craving is a symptom of something else. Fooling your brain deals with the symptom but you'll have to deal with it again and again and again. It's like dealing with cold by using cold wraps. Does it work? Well yes but you didn't really solve the problem. You're better off trying to find out why you had fever in the first place.

    • @jackwhite3820
      @jackwhite3820 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Hrnek Bezucha
      Why does the craving have to be a symptom of something else? I'm not saying it couldn't be, but immediately reading a lot into it seems hastedly to me.
      I think a likely and simple explanation, for me liking chocolate and sweets, is because I'm evolutionary hard wired to like high sugar stuff. I don't think I need a shrink for that.

    • @Mukund472
      @Mukund472 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Craving is an evolutionary necessity.I'm into fitness and my trainer told me that if you manage to get past the first two weeks of dieting,your cravings automatically reduce and it becomes easier for you to follow your nutrition plan.I have never made it past one week.Damn you chocolate!Hope this psychological trick helps.

    • @JonesNoahT
      @JonesNoahT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Research shows that this doesn't hold up. The body craves Calories when they are in abundance, but there is no reason to think that people are motivated to eat these high-fat and high-sugar foods for any other reason. Chocolate may contain magnesium, but that amount is negligible compared to other food sources.
